]]> As I took in Kai Straw’s ‘Cherry Corvette’ I wasn’t expecting to be caught up in elaborate tale of deception but I was pleasantly surprised. With production by James the Bear, the backdrop is smooth and sexy with an opulent texture throughout. Kai’s vocals are smooth and dripping with swagger but it’s his songwriting that really takes this one over the top. What appears as a classic fast-moving tryst, turns into something even more interesting. ‘Cherry Corvette’ somehow mixes a wavy future R&B aesthetic with the storytelling of a classic 90’s rap record. It’s a combination I’ve never considered but definitely look forward to hearing more of. Look out for Kai Straw.
