The music industry as a whole is developing and changing at such a fast rate, it can be hard to keep up with certain trends. As of recent the experimental bass scene has been pushing some serious sonic boundaries and getting picked up from the big dog labels! Notably labels like Jadu Dala, Quality Goods Records, Deadbeats, & Division have been putting out very experimental and original content as of recent.

Below in alphabetical order are just some of the hundreds of artists that are currently driving this movement full force with their frequency splitting production!

Abelation

Abelation has been putting out music very frequently with a constant theme of half time Dub style bass with trap influenced drums. His sound is complemented with his minimal style of artwork that is really painting a world I’d happily live in. Abelation’s sound has been evolving constantly over the past year, yet staying so true to his Lost Dogz routes. If you need a bass driven fix, look no further.

Cozway

Ok so this guy right here…he’s now got the top 2 most played tracks on Jadu Dala, along with his knee-breaking track ‘Windbreaker’ getting played out at most major festivals around the globe. So much love for his sound as he is really trying to push for quality over quantity and it’s paid off a ton! Percussive driven rhythms with stripped back drums that are a much needed breath of fresh air in the bass scene. Need a new obsession? Check the tracks below.

Duke & Jones

These two UK based weapons have been hiding in silence with a lot of ammunition for a hot minute. This year they have gone from silence, to releasing their newest single ‘Tusk’ on Deadbeats with a HUGE Billboard premiere! They have also had an official remix release through Circus records. Keep an eye out this next month for some spicy releases from these two.

JEANIE

Phat low end with biting snares. JEANIE’s sound is nothing short of an ice cream Sundae with ALL the toppings. A perfect mixture of that bass design base with a sprinkle of lightly salted distortion on the top. Amazing arrangement in every single track from the Queen herself, JEANIE.

Leet

Leet has taken the scene by storm in the past year with one of his most recent releases with Snuffy ‘incoherent,’ getting noticed from the likes of Electric Mantis! From chicken samples to phat low end 808s, this guy has so much momentum right now. Have a scout out and stay tuned for his upcoming tracks.

Razat

Half time distortion with full pan pot sauce snares! Razat has been on my radar for a good year or so now. Track after track he offers a new rhythm occupying his signature distorted bass. His track ‘d:beat’ got a considerable amount of well deserved love from the SoundCloud community! ‘D:beat’ is a loose yet clever blend of simplicity and rhythm that just fills a dance floor. Indulge below!

Roxas & Klahrk

I put these two together because, well…I’m sure they were separated when they fell from the UFO that dropped them off. Alien structures with sounds that have been pulled through a packer punch then spread on a beautiful piece of french toast. These two are honestly pushing hard on the experimentation side of the bass scene! Amazing creators.

Words by Rohaan. He’s been making a pretty strong impact in the bass scene himself.

It has really been a while since I’ve listened to something so punk on my SoundCloud. Rohaan & roxas & KLAHRK have really pulled out their muscles during their studio sessions, tearing up our comfort zones and gifting us with something that goes far beyond our optimistic expectations.

Despite its extremely impactful physicality, ‘Red’ doesn’t rely on mere force to captivate the listeners, but mainly on its amazing aesthetic. From this point of view, everything all the way through the four minutes is praiseworthy and deserves a lucid analysis to be fully appreciated. For example, the texture is packed with so many different situations that it ends up sounding more like a sophisticated movie’s soundtrack or an Alon Mor creation than an average bass track. The sound design instead, forces you to focus your attention on every single beat, every second, every switch, in order to not miss the myriad of wonders hidden within.

At this point you’ll probably have understood that this won’t be the easiest listen you’ll encounter today. It’s true, but it’s very important to remember that listening to ‘Red’ is, in first place and above all, so much fun.

Praise to Phuture Collective for believing in this track and including it in the current Issue 10, ‘rebirth’.
