Thanks to QUIX it’s not beautiful anymore. The beast of a producer just dragged it into the dungeons, dismembered it and buried it behind the castle. The catchy vocals serve as glimmer of hope while QUIX crafts a soundscape with the sole desire to slaughter speakers. The addition of cartoonish fight sound effects in the final drop adds a comedic and creative twist to the grim sound.

Cold keys and breathy soundscapes are interwoven with snapping snares for an auditory experience that feels like trekking across frozen tundra. Don’t let the desolate build fool you though, when the drop hits it’s full out war; mammoths fighting saber-tooths for king of the North status in a prehistoric battle. That’s just the beginning, the first drop morphs and bends into something even more visceral before drifting into a world of inhibited beauty. Thousands of years pass within seconds as the duo bring listeners into the future for a sound that’s ripe with intensity, uncertainty and an underlying allure.
‘Seventeen’ begins with a sample that is reminiscent of a Middle Eastern desert: a flute, twinkle of chimes, and bongo-like percussion. As you are being lead into the dunes, the lashes of a windstorm start to rise up, the light’s been blotted out, and the drop comes quick. KRNE utilizes thickly-dense, multi-tiered percussion between resurrections of the flutes, riding a rapid pulse of soft drums, and harmonizing with stretched out, stabilizing synths. Hyped, staccato drums ignite, roasting the bottomed bass slithering beneath. As the swirls of sand pass, KRNE drops the drums, and hones in on the sparkling-clear and crisp string instrumentals to dissolve into the inky-midnight, and silence.

KRNE is back with another track to impress us with and he’s got B. Lewis to help him. ‘PCP’ is a dexterously mixed get-down, that uses sounds from all sorts of music families. KRNE must have been bent over this Frankenstein for some time before letting it out of the lab. The complexity of this creature can seem off putting at first, there are so many elements, but once you cross the threshold there is just no going back.

It’s a disjointed monster, with a deep barrel bass, and saucy, sing-song synths. Some of the more hollow sounding percussion is like a zombie gallop; before the alarms ring out, more brassy sounds are rubbed in like a salve. There are no vocals and the switch between sections of the track lunge, and pull at the threads of the music. Resurrecting the melody and meaty bass over and over again, KRNE draws attention to the lilting and languishing echoes. The song has an eerie, swaying rhythm that will seduce any member of the undead. Here’s to hoping you locked the doors before bumping out to this dark cemetery dance-off jam.

RL Grime’s annual Halloween mix has become one of the most highly anticipated drops of the year. Today he returned with the 2016 edition and it’s massive. The 5th edition gets a vocal intro from Pharrell who reminds us that it’s “super fucking special” and that Grime is a goblin. From there we drift into the Stranger Things theme and get slapped by Oski’s ‘Make It Hot’. The remainder of the mix dances between underground electronic sounds and raw rap. With everything from 21 Savage, Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott and Desiinger to Boys Noize, Rezz, GTA and Baauer. RL Grime also makes sure to feature some of the hottest up-and-comers from KRNE to Alexander Lewis, QUIX and graves. Oh and you know Grime’s namesake R.L. Stine had to drop in for a few words. If you’re looking to turn up your Halloween weekend this is the ticket. Stream below and download it here.

Do you need a rich royal track to get regally down to? Ever dream of rolling up to a party with a fanfare of dirty-bass dripping bugles?

Look no further. KRNE x Alexander Lewis‘ track ‘Fall Apart’ is a slick trap track beginning with breathy angelic vocals, that drums up images of a ferocious elite space army, lined up to pop-and-lock you to death, in their search for absolute bass-domination.

What is really impressive is that those clean, steady trombone lines are shredded dexterously by Alexander Lewis himself. There is hope for those band kids after all.

Their 2015 single ‘Grim,’ which had a quick tempo, and thrashing metallic synths, was overly complex. In ‘Fall Apart,’ the artists take a different approach and allow Lewis’ horns a cleaner quality, giving the saucy mix a rich, brass after-taste. Stream below and grab the free download.

At the top of the year, Keys N Krates dropped their massive Midnite Mass EP. After 6 months of letting fans soak it in, the trio has decided to give it new life with a full remix EP. The project features some of the hottest producers out. KRNE sparks it off with a strong take on ‘I Know U’. He keeps the future trap sound in place while somehow making it bigger and more moving. Stooki Sound‘s take on ‘Love Again’ is easily one of the standouts of the release. It shows the London duo taking a new direction with a wonky tripped-out feel that’ll have you hypnotized. Autolaser gives it a contrasting flip that takes a brighter, more uplifting approach. The remixes of ‘Nothing But Space’ are equally incredible. Promnite comes through as always but DJ Q is the standout for me. I’d never heard his work before but I am definitely now a fan. Jakwob closes things out taking listeners to the jungle with his reinterpretation of ‘U Already Know’. Just like the original this goes in from start to finish. Smash play and cop all the remixes on iTunes.

Another Friday means another weekend ahead and time to get caught up on some of the hottest tracks of the week. As per usual we keep the vibe diverse with everything from smooth future bass (‘Renaissance’), to gritty trap (‘razor’) , wonky house (‘1080’) and some rap. This week’s standouts include Wuki’s insane flip of N.A.S.A. and KRS One, Christian…
