A versatile, eleven-track endeavour, Ghost Planet Remixes (Part 1) is bound to please a wide array of electronic music lovers. Dubstep fans can rejoice at the contributions from OG Nixin and Al Ross, while heavy house and electro fans can go crazy to Jacknife and Lektrique’s remixes. Sandwiched in between these two genres is an eclectic mix of gnarly bass from Leotrix, Moore Kismet, Bro Safari and BINKS, experimental weirdness from Bishu and Code:Pandorum, and wonky freeform from Space Wizard and FrostTop.

Don’t get us wrong; not all the remixers are new names to the scene. Despite this, they all take a forward-thinking approach with their respective takes on the tracks and bring a new life to their classic sounds.

The title track ‘Black Magic’ is a collaboration with Sam Lamar, an artist from Montreal who is totally worth a quick scope if you are into having your face melted by bass. Lamar and Lektrique have found themselves in quite a dark little corner on the track ‘Black Magic’. There is plenty of Lektrique’s rhythmic theatrics that ramp up to the a destructive break-beat drop. This track is more in line with the type of Lektrique we heard on BTSM’s last album, in the track ‘DEATH’- except it has a cool, SoCal-skater edge and playfully dark, horror film voice clips. There is lots of tension, blood-magic mixing really, as the they press twangy, American south-western guitar sounds, against daring operatic vocals, smeared all over a killer-banger foundation.

The second track, ‘Virus’, has that punky, post-apocalyptic vibes we love to feed on from Kannibalen records. There is so much happening in this sound; Lektrique seems to vibrate through each section of ‘Virus’ just like a pathogen ripples through populations. It’s frenetic meandering stays steady with the striking synths, but continuously builds, creating a magic that ebbs and flows through the snares and bass. There is so much energy in ‘Virus’ it will be sure to get you feverishly hyped and ready to dance under the full moon with what may be your rave fam, or your ritual coven, its really whatever the occasion calls for.

Having received nods from Anna Lunoe, Afrojack, and Snails, this track is hard to ignore or deny its hype. Originally an electro house single, it has reached the final form as a thrilling bass and drum banger. ‘Shots Fired (Reloaded)’ dilates vessels, and makes the blood surge with its flashing synths, whipping tempo, and throbbing bass lines. Quickening not only the tempo, but fleshing out the darkness of all the elements in the track, Lektrique and aUtOdiDakt keep it creepy and chaotic with a barrage of bass. There are plenty of smooth transitions, dark vocal samples, and of course, gun shots through out this rapid fire electro hit. It may seem over the top for Lektrique who typically creates barrages of bass at a slower rhythm, but this dip into a more demanding tempo and high intensity feels fun and refreshing.

Riding the wave from there latest album release, New Worlds, the trio have been rampaging through North America on their Ceremony tour. Various artists have been joining them for performances here and there, but this Friday the 13th in Fort Collins, Colorado they will be playing alongside label mates Kai Wachi, Sullivan King, and Lektrique.

If you were lucky enough to get tickets before this show was sold out at the Aggie Theater, you’ll your delight darker senses with BTSM’s signature heavy, hardcore electro style and post apocalyptic aesthetics. Putting on a truly unique set, Black Tiger’s performances are immersive and in your face, but also evolving. With every tour they attempt to make their sets darker, deeper with themes of monstrous futurisms and flourishing anarchy- testing the bottom of bass music, wading through murky waves of electronic music’s danker roots. It is this focus on delivery at every level- from their interactions with fans, to the collaborating and signing artists to their Kannibalen record label, and the way they create new music that captures their commitment to staying the saviors of dark electro.

Known for casting an air of nostalgia with classic electronic sounds and bending them around ripping bass lines, this Belgian producer’s on tour, just like the rest of his labelmates. ‘Laidback’ is surprisingly refreshing, peppered with cheeky vocal samples, but retains the label’s dark feel with a tenacious tempo, and contemporary raver vibes. Plenty of bass and kinky synths make this the perfect sound track for wildin’ out to, and kickin’ it with your crew.
