Lil Wayne Drops His Long Awaited ‘No Ceilings 3’ Mixtape

When we think about generational rap artists, a handful of names come to mind. One could argue that there’s a tier above this, a tier where legends live, and that’s where New Orleans native Lil Wayne resides. With a career that spans decades that includes multiple Grammy award wins, multiple timeless projects, and a robust discography that stacks up to almost anyone to have done it before, Lil Wayne has not only remained relevant throughout the decades but has shown no signs of slowing down.

It’s important to realize that not only has Lil Wayne seemingly converged the monster that this the music industry, but the legend has also continually given back to the underground and it’s culture. Through his volumes of mixtapes that include the Dedication, Sorry 4 the Wait, and todays subject the No Ceilings mixtape series. The last of which was released almost five years ago to the date of Lil Wayne’s most recent addition to the series, No Ceilings 2. No Ceilings 3 is as always a compilation of Wayne’s takes on today’s hottest hip-hop records, but this time with some surprise features sprinkled throughout.

Going through the project it’s so hard to pick favorites, as Lil Wayne’s infamous cadence and wordplay breathe new life into records that are already hits in their own regard. A few notable tracks include ‘V8’, Wanye’s take on the viral hit ‘We Paid’ by Lil Baby and 42 Dugg, and the awaited reunion of Drake and Lil Wayne with ‘BB King Freestyle.’ Towards the end of the tape, we come across three tracks that feature all three of Lil Wayne’s sons, a true passing of the torch moment between father and son. Lil Wayne & Drake Just Dropped Their ‘Family Feud’ Freestyle

Lil Wayne is heating up the Holiday season. Fresh off the release of Dedication 6 on Christmas, Wayne is back with Drake for a new freestyle. Going in over Jay-Z’s ‘Family Feud,’ the track is reminiscent of their ‘Ignant Shit’ freestyle (including the mention of Young Angel and Young Lion). Drake kicks things off with some boss talk; from hanging with Puff, to paying Wayne what he’s owed, to “taking a bite out of Apple.” It’s great to hear Drake back with the bars and he certainly doesn’t disappoint. Wayne picks up halfway through with a verse that has him jet-setting around the world and raking in dough with some tight punchlines. Suicide Squad Recruits Logic, Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla $ign + More For ‘Sucker For Pain’

The comic Suicide Squad is about to make it to the big screen this August but personally I’m anxious to hear more of its seemingly dope soundtrack. ‘Sucker for Pain’ is the second track to be released from it and it’s peachy yet simple beat is infused with the lyrical genius Logic, Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, & Ty Dolla $ign. In addition to these well known rappers spitting their fresh flow on the beat, we get more of an alternative rock feel with the appearances of Imagine Dragons and X Ambassadors. The uncanny factor about this song is not who is featured in it but rather the admixture of genres. The originality of all the artists featured in this track only adds to the simplicity of its beauty. It begins with a vintage slow starting Imagine Dragon intro, similar to their single ‘Demons’ but with a kick and then transitions into the verses of all four rappers. In the wise words of Lil Tunechi *Insert Weezy laugh*, “I’mma jump from a plane or stand in front of a train, Cause I’m a sucker for pain.” In correlation with this dope new track, at the end of the day your squad is always there for you, so go share this song with them and stream below.

The convergence of rap and electronic music continues to result in new sounds and styles. One of my favorites right now is a blend of gritty deep house and familiar rap songs. From Dr. Fresch to Destructo and Samsoni there are a handful of producers doing it exceptionally well. New to join this list is Drezo, a 23 year old hailing from LA. He takes Lil Wayne’s anthematic ‘A Milli’ and twists it into a dark and sinister house track. Focus on the future, but I need my money now. T.I.’s ‘Paperwork‘ dropped on the 21st and its projected to sell through about 65 to 70k in its first week. Though his album likely won’t go platinum (lol – sorry), its all about the money in this remix of his latest hit. Mula. ‘Rich Gang 2’, the second compilation album from Cash Money Records is getting ready to drop (maybe after Tyga’s album, ha!) and the lead single features Young Thug and Lil Wayne. As Weezy F and Drizzy Drake gear up to kick off the Drake vs. Lil Wayne tour (in complete Street Fighter fashion), the YMCMB camp just dropped anew joint featuring the two labelmates. The pair get really braggadocious on this one and share with us how they plan on turning “M’s in to B’s”. No word if this will be on Carter V but so far, Believe Me has been reigning number 1.
