Curitiba, Brazil-based artist Marcio Zygmunt, better known as Marcioz, possesses musical talents far beyond his years. Evident through his previous works that combine orchestral grandeur, soul-stirring melodies, deep-rooted meaning and no shortage of punch, the talented producer has remained an underrated force in the electronic music scene ever since his debut on Record Record over five years ago. In recent times, as in his MULATO TRAGIDY EP, Marcioz has been diving into a more experimental sound, straying from the generic nature of mainstream music while continuing to drive a beautifully chaotic style.

Today, Marcioz is back with a new project titled DE/COLONIAL WRITING$ that further demonstrates his unparalleled talents as a producer. Inspired by his experience and readings on colonialism and raciality in Brazil, as well as the music influence from this period, namely flamenco, Portuguese music, samba and pagode, DE/COLONIAL WRITING$ showcases a brief yet bright side of the creative genius’ mind. ‘HINO DO CABELO RUIM & DESMONTE DA BRANQUINHA PINCHEJA ($treet Mulato Anthem)’ is all the proof one needs to get a firm grasp of Marcioz’s brilliance, starting with a flex of sheer sound design monstrosity reminiscent of SOPHIE’s otherworldly textures, yet somehow still seamlessly transitioning between these wicked consistencies and truly moving musical riffs, transcending every notion of genres. ‘SHOWYOUTHI$* (Cityismine)’ continues upon this theme, pushing the idea of electronic music to new, unprecedented limits. Finally, ‘shut the fuck up please’ contains all the information you need to know in its title – just sit back and press play, uninterrupted.

This also marks the launch of Marcioz’s new Bandcamp page as his primary source of more intimate relations with listeners. Check out his page, as well as the expertly-crafted DE/COLONIAL WRITING$ EP below.

Marcioz might just be the electronic music scene’s most underrated genius. The Curitiba, Brazil native has proven his brilliance over the last few years with his intricate compositions that break the barriers not only between electronic styles, but across diverse genres that no other artist has ever thought of combining before.

The beginning of the year marked a new chapter for Marcioz with the release of ‘Watch Out! Black God I$ In Town‘ which was the first single from today’s new MULATO TRAGIDY EP, before sharing ‘HALENKIND‘ a few weeks back to give fans a deeper look into his gifted mind and new project. With today’s full release, it’s safe to state that Marcioz has delivered a true masterpiece in the form of the MULATO TRAGIDY EP.

In the seven-track endeavour, Marcioz draws influence from his Brazilian roots, American dance music and Latin reggaeton to expertly craft a tumultuous listening experience. In the first track titled ‘My First Time Dying ($hristal, $hristal Eye),’ fans are immediately exposed to the chaotic yet beautiful nature of the MULATO TRAGIDY EP. The introduction is soothing and grows into an emotive orchestral section, before Marcioz transcends centuries with his surreal metallic explosion of sounds and percussion. To say that this first song is experimental is a massive understatement, and only continues to become more complex as it progresses. The rest of the project is an eclectic marvel worthy of the same praise as recent Flume and SOPHIE works. That’s saying a lot, so press play and listen for yourself.

Few artists manage to combine raw musical beauty with chaotic, disorderly sounds better than MARCIOZ. Since releasing the experimental ‘INTERSTELLAR‘ late last year, the Brazilian artist has only continued to further his wildly unique and captivating signature with ‘Watch Out! Black God I$ In Town‘ and his Gouldian Finch 03 contribution alongside BeauDamian. Today, MARCIOZ returns with another intricately crafted masterpiece…

Today, MARCIOZ returns with another intricately crafted masterpiece titled ‘HALENKIND’ which sees him push trap and future bass to new limits. What starts off as a cutesy summer ballad soon turns into a metallic, glitchy introduction riddled with subtle complexities. Continuing to build on the momentum of the track, MARCIOZ flips the vibe in the latter half with frenzied melodies and punchy percussion that will simply leave you in awe. Without ever breaking the flow, the talented producer evokes several conflicting emotions in the span of less than three minutes – a true testament to his ingenious creative mind.

Brazilian producer Marcioz first caught my attention last year with his track ‘Ayre for Rejection’. He combined innocent beauty with blatant energy in a way that nobody had ever done it before, and followed that up with a versatile four-track EP on bitbird before remixing San Holo’s ‘One Thing’. After a six-month hiatus, the talented producer is back and stronger than ever with a new single titled ‘INTERSTELLAR!’ featuring soothing vocals from Slow Shudder.

‘INTERSTELLAR!’ is a perfect embodiment of Marcioz as an artist. He takes familiar sounds and ties them together to create an experimental masterpiece. The introduction is riddled with old-school alien-inspired samples staying true to the song’s title, but he grounds this celestial soundscape with Slow Shudder’s comforting vocals. In a typical Marcioz fashion, a brief pause leaves the melodic introduction behind and cuts into a battery of glitchy stabs and powerful synths before returning to a calm ambiance in a matter of seconds. This theme is repeated in the second half of the track with more energy and emotion than the first, with elements of jazz added for an extra punch.

Marcioz is an artist that has to be on your radar. Check out ‘INTERSTELLAR!’ below.
