The balance of emotion and energy is off the charts when it comes to this power duo. Their shared love for the arts and heart-wrenching melodies is like no other. Always creating brand new stories through their works and experimenting within the spectrum of sound to the highest degree. Inspiring many up and comers within the underground while always staying true to themselves. Yes, we’re talking about the team of mark veins and Shöckface.

Two powerful artists whose abilities max out whenever they create music together. Tapping into the unknown and sharing gorgeous compositions with their listeners. Pushing the ‘hyperwave’ genre down a beautiful road of possibilities. Growing and evolving as friends. From teaming up with Tribal Trap, to killer self-releases, there’s no stopping this dangerous duo from fulfilling their dreams as musicians. And now, they’ve blessed us with their own joint mix and interview. You definitely won’t want to miss out on this one. So sit back, relax and enjoy this exciting and everlasting journey of passion.

First off, thank you both so much for taking the time for the interview. How’ve you both been doing so far?

The start of 2022 has been extremely overwhelming for both good and bad but we are very blessed to be surrounded by incredible people who keep us balanced when things get extremely overwhelming.

The music captures our memories, emotions, experiences, and feelings throughout our friendship.

What was the sole purpose or idea behind this ‘hyperwave’ themed mix? What can listeners expect while diving in?

The sole purpose is to showcase hyperwave. Which is a combination of heavy influences in and outside of electronic music that connected us two. Listeners can expect 100 percent original music and a fusion of wave, trap, electronic, and indie. This is a special mix as it represents the first chapter of mark veins and Shöckface original music over the course of 5 years. The music captures our memories, emotions, experiences, and feelings throughout our friendship.

You’ve worked together for some time now. How did your friendship come to be what it is today?

We met online through a mutual friend and longtime collaborator, Azide. Azide created a collective, XELFGANG. We got to know each other through group video calls online. We started working together through the bond of music over the internet and our mutual love for moodier darker sounds that bring those emotions to life.

We are both self-taught all the way. But throughout our journey as creatives, we have had incredible mentors that have helped us perfect our sound.

Did either of you grow up classically trained musically or are you self-taught?

We are both self-taught all the way. But throughout our journey as creatives, we have had incredible mentors that have helped us perfect our sound.

Name a couple of films that really touched and inspired you from the score or overall cinematography?

We really love specific scenes and events in movies. Soundtracks from Hans Zimmer and the soundtrack in Interstellar are some that come to mind that are really fire. We also love Attack on Titan.

Teaming up with labels such as Tribal Trap and Lowly in the past, are there any other platforms you’d love to see your art on?

Any platform that takes a chance on us with releasing hyperwave music it’s a huge honor. It’s an incredible honor to debut our first-ever hyperwave mix with FUXWITHIT.

Are you two the only creatives in your family, or were you both inspired by a loved one in particular?

Yes and yes.

What’s really cool about working together is that we are always pushing each other to be the best version of ourselves.

You both really know how to capture the pure essence and spirit within the music itself, what keeps you both inspired to continue to build powerful ideas?

What’s really cool about working together is that we are always pushing each other to be the best version of ourselves. We stay in touch every day and are constantly taking trips into nature to keep our minds level-headed. We inspire each other to stay healthy in and outside of music. We want to be able to inspire people. What gives us a lot of inspiration are things like receiving messages from people we have never met that tell us that the music helped them get through something good or bad.

Outside of music, what are some hobbies or activities you guys like to do on a daily basis to just getaway?

We enjoy trips through nature and visual arts. Sometimes even a simple trip through the city. Watching anime, worshiping my dog, and going in the sauna.

What are some of your favorite foods or dishes you’ve had throughout your lives?

Beans & Rice.

In your eyes, if either of you could change or improve something in the world today, what would it be and why?

We would invent a teleportation device today so we can be wherever we want to be. Also we would create a fully transparent system that would allow talent buyers to see what fans want to see what artists in what cities.

Lastly, what are some major goals you’d love to accomplish or start this year?

To play a b2b anywhere in the world as mark veins x Shöckface present hyperwave would be insane. Eventually, even one day throwing a Hyperwave festival with all of our best friends will be amazing and will happen. We are blending underground experimental sounds with sexy mainstream zest with no strings attached. It’s about creating something that hopefully one day will allow people to be inspired.

Over the past few years, one name that has consistently cut through the monotony of the vast amount of releases we see today is the Massachusetts native, Shöckface. We’ve come to love Shöckface for his uncompromising take on bass music. Through combining elements from dubstep to hip-hop, and pop, the rising star was created his own lane in which his releases thrive. No stranger to collaboration, Shöckface has worked with some equally as talented acts from a variety of areas of music, including one of our personal favorites ‘im afraid to be sober’ with pop singer/songwriter Lauren Martinez. This time the rising star returns to work with another familiar collaborator, Mark Veins, an eclectic multi-talented instrumentalist and producer with their single ‘Resurrection’ featuring vocals from STAHL.

Beginning with a spectral vocal chant with a menacing sub layered on top, ‘Resurrection’ soon proves its namesake when after this intro section we’re lead into a palace of tribal percussion elements and risers before being truly ‘Resurrected.’ Finally, the full power of the record is unveiled with heavily distorted leads that play a much-welcome game of call and response with the various other vocal modulations and one-shots spread out through various breaks. The breakdown and intro share this theatrical feeling that perfectly cradles the remaining aggressive drop sections of the track, something that we have been absolutely loving from the Shöckface project. Check out the whole thing down below and grab the free download!

Sprouting from the garden of life, josh bernstein and mark veins have blessed the earth with their newest project. take me away is a brand new chapter for these two souls. A chapter which will set their skills and passion higher than ever before. It’s a true awakening for ones self. Known for their soft and deep atmospheres, both josh and mark have touched the hearts and souls of the broken. Resurrecting their entities with each track released. And to see them coming together for this EP is truly inspiring and exciting.

The take me away EP is a calling to the ones who are lost. The ones who have suffered. It’s a gorgeous remedy for all to take during difficult times. Bringing nothing but star-striking melodies and feeling to the table. Being only two tracks, they’ve managed to create such an unforgettable ride. Filled with soft sounding treats for the ear. With each note being played, it’ll transport the listener into the before time and nurture their hearts. It’s a perfect project to listen to during those dull, rainy days. Bringing out all of those special and jaw-dropping characteristics. And recruiting catcat to introduce her lush and gentle vocals was a perfect edition. It gave the project that much more of a kick. And once you hear the reece bass and future bass souls swirling around your head in the second track, it’ll leave you with nothing but tears and eye-opening realizations. Everything flows together so well with beautiful touches of their future pieces.

Both josh bernstein and mark veins are two dedicated and memorable beings. Showing their craft and passion within the spectrum has impacted the audience in a luscious fashion. Trust us when we say you do not want to sleep on these legends. So make sure you show support by streaming the take me away EP on Spotify and SoundCloud.

One name that has quickly transitioned from being on our radar to one of our favorite rising names in electronic music, is Massachusetts native, Shöckface. The young talent has succeeded in carving his own eccentric sound by pulling influences from hip-hop all the way to indie-pop and combining them with the experimental elements of bass music we’ve all come to love. 2020 was a massive year for Shöckface, with his crossover collaboration with rising pop singer/songwriter Lauren Martinez and LIHO, ‘I’m Afraid To Be Sober’ breaking 200k streams on Spotify alone. Looking to carry forward the momentum, the man in question makes a return to Tribal Trap with a collaboration between Iranian-based producer Rfen, and a familiar partner in mark veins. Together this trio gives us ‘Therapy,’ a bass-heavy treat that only this group is capable of.

We begin with the juxtaposition of the ambient sounds of the intro combined with the menacing underlying sub-layer that constantly hums the melody throughout the intro. Soon after, tribal drums are added to the mix before we’re thrown into an energetic buildup full of drum and bass percussion patterns. All of these elements combine in a climax of events when we’re met with a barrage of distorted bass leads and a metallic synth covering the hi-end of this section. After a chaotic journey through the sounds of this trio, we’re sent off similarly to how we began, with beautiful ambient elements that lay this track to rest. Both carving their own individual paths within the electronic music scene and killing it in their respective realms, it’s always great to see these two come together on single that meshes their unique styles into one.

Dubbed “Hyperwave” and described as “a blend of veins’ dark tonal sound infused with Shöckface’s signature experimental bass,” ‘Gravity’ is brief but quick to the punch, creating intrigue in the first thirty seconds with a riser hinting at the impending catastrophe. As soon as the drop hits, all sense of tranquility and ease are replaced by urgency and chaos – but in the best way possible. Shöckface and mark veins quickly flip the script into a bass brute that’s wonky, meticulous and snappy, launching one’s mind into space in true defiance of the track’s title. ‘Gravity’ closes as quickly as it opens, but the need for more resides in listeners as it ends, making this a track worthy of playing on repeat all night long. Don’t miss it below.
