The trio concoct a beat that’s smooth and summery. Elujay comes through with the bars and some stellar singing to top this one off exceptionally. Bay area beatmaker Mikos Da Gawd has been amping the game up with his fresh takes on hip-hop tunes in his Caffeine series. It looks like the hard work on these projects isn’t going overlooked as Zion I has tapped him for their latest single ‘Saving Souls’. The production is a balance of hazy loops, 90’s vocal samples, and intense synths. It’s the perfect backdrop for bars that drift between philosophical and battle raps. ‘Savings Souls’ finds a unique balance between classic hip-hop and new school sounds. Stream below.

It’s been way too long since we’ve dropped a fresh Viibes playlist. Usually a monthly feature, we somehow managed to take almost the entire summer off. Mikos Da Gawd & Tele Fresco – Surrender to Luxury

Mikos Da Gawd has been bubbling on my SoundCloud for sometime. With the release of his collaborative EP with Tele Fresco he has fully captivated my attention. ‘Raviloi Waterslide’ is a clear standout. From the odd title, to the bent, almost unrecognizable R. Kelly vocal samples, to the hard hitting bass with snapping snares, this track is incredible. It’s refreshing that they give listeners a longer taste of ‘I’m A Flirt’ at the end to give insight into what they chopped and sampled. ‘Your Buttered Thighs’ takes a different direction opening with smooth soulful vocals that lead into a hazy vibe. As they drop in Cam’ron the melody and vibe change leading into a trapped out feel. ‘How to Survive’ is futuristic beating down the block anthem, complete with haunting vocals that are like a distant memory playing in your conscious. Closing things out is ‘The Wench’s Escapade’. It’s smooth, upbeat and triumphant. Stream below and cop the EP on BandCamp.
