Real heads know Milano.

Anyone who was around during the mid-2010s SoundCloud golden era will put the Lost Dogz crew on a pedestal. These pioneering mad lads have spent years crafting an iconic sound that may as well be its own genre at this point. EAZYBAKED, Untitld, Vide, and the rest of the crew have inspired an entire generation of underground producers to embrace the art of experimenting with whatever wickedly imaginative sound designs they can get their computer processors to handle. Oozing with hip-hop influence and raw dubstep oomph, a Lost Dogz track is positively unmistakable when you hear it.

With the founding members largely busy pursuing solo endeavors in recent years, we haven’t seen a full-fledged compilation from the group since the 2019 Off the Chain EP… until now. Enter VOL. 1, a compilation featuring eight of our favorite canine friends with their many years-honed production skills on full display. There’s a lot to be said about each of these tracks individually, but to make a long story short, this compilation comes across as an unabashed flex on the beatmaker scene. This is the kind of release that tells everyone else to “step it the fuck up.”

To celebrate the compilation’s release, we chatted with Milano to get an insight into the mind and creative process of one of the true Lost Dogz OGs (with some exclusive lore to boot). Check out what he had to share with us below.

What was your first experience with electronic/dance music (as a listener, not a producer)?

One of my best friends showed me a Flosstradamus song in his new jeep at the skatepark. I’d never heard anything like that before and I kinda got hooked. My first electronic show was actually Pretty Lights though, in like 2012.

Likewise, what was your inspiration for becoming a producer? Any artists in particular that really drew you in?

Once I experienced it live, the way the speakers rattled your body honestly blew my mind. I became obsessed with weird noises. I saw artists like Flume, Herobust, Mr. Carmack, RL Grime, and was just inspired to try and create.

Do you play any live instruments?

0 live instruments for me. Just an obsessed kid with a computer!

How did you and Lost Dogz link up? When we interviewed Untitld, he mentioned that you had said “no” the first time he asked you to join, so what made you change your mind?

Hahahaha I saw the SoundCloud with a super clean banner. And it just looked fun. Had 0 tracks, 0 followers, and hit him back up and said “yoooo I’m actually down.”

I actually usually don’t go into a song with much of an idea ever.

Walk us through your creative process a bit. How do you go from turning an idea for a tune into reality?

I actually usually don’t go into a song with much of an idea ever. Unless it’s a remix. But I usually start by writing drums. Then going backwards and creating elements to go into those drums (an intro). As far as sound design I never really have a goal and kinda like to go off the rails with wavetable synths and resampling. Always ends up being a happy accident that sparks creativity.

A lot of artists are pivoting toward the use of AI in their workflow. What are your thoughts on the trend?

I think as long as we use AI as a Tool and don’t let it actually write or create the art. It can be useful. I’m a huge Kaelin Ellis fan and love the way he plays with AI in his videos!

Do you try to differentiate the sound of your festival sets vs. club sets? If so, how?

Not really. Festival sets might be a little “more planned” as far as a cool intro, VIP’s, etc.. but other than that I’m just always playing my music, my friends music, and music I think will get people weird.

What can fans expect from you over the course of the next year? Any new releases, special sets, streams, etc. in the works?

Just going to be writing as much music as possible and working with my manager to try and take this project to the next level.

Let’s say you’re only allowed to listen to one music genre for the rest of your life (non-electronic). What would you choose?

Probably Classical rock, or Rnb.

I’m a big fan of the album art for your self-released tracks. Do you make them yourself or do you commission someone to help?

I do make most of them! I’ve had a few friends and fans help me out a few times though.

What made this the right time for a new Lost Dogz compilation? Can you tell us a bit about your track on the album?

We haven’t dropped a Lost Dogz comp since we went on the “off the chain” tour back in 2019. We all just got busy with our own projects and growing up to be honest. But we’ve stayed in contact almost everyday for the last 6 years and thought it would be a perfect time to come back.

My track is called “gibs” and it’s actually one I was sitting on for a while. Very influenced by Daggz. I think it’s very simple and gets the point across that I love simple wet music lol.

We keep each other going and writing music and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

What’s been the biggest highlight of your music career?

Without a doubt meeting my Lost Dogz brothers. We keep each other going and writing music and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. As far as experiences, getting to perform at Shambhala was an absolute moment for me and always will be.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that your fans might not already know. Anything at all!

I am obsessed with spicy foods and wanna create a hot sauce company one day.

No strangers to weird and wild frequency undulations, the Lost Dogz have paved a pathway in 2019 to inordinate amounts of success. Their Off The Chain Tour has been gallivanting across the country, slinging saucy beats at all who dare bring their bodies within earshot. Narrowing their focus towards having as much fun as possible while remaining true to themselves, they’ve acquired quite the passionate fan-base in the short amount of time they’ve all been working together. I recently had the great opportunity to catch up with Conrad aka sumthin sumthin, Eric and Andrew of Eazybaked, and Bryce (Milano), after their high-energy sets in Portland this past week. Check out our conversation in full below!

I’ve played bad shows with people I’m not friends with and it’s just not the same as playing bad shows with people you love – sumthin sumthin

The Off The Chain Tour has been going on for the past month and a half for you guys! How has it been so far?

Eric – It’s been good! We’re all doing what we love to do together and that’s ultimately the main thing. We’ve had great shows and we’ve had rough shows, it’s been an up and down ride, but overall it’s been really good.

Conrad – But even the bad shows equate to so much happiness that it really doesn’t even matter. I’ve played bad shows with people I’m not friends with and it’s just not the same as playing bad shows with people you love, you know what I mean? It just makes it that much better because we just laugh about it and we move on. Usually when you’re by yourself like as a major headliner it like hurts your soul.

Eric – But when you’re with your friends it’s like ehh whatever, you just shrug it off and kill the next one, getting to hangout with your favorite people in the world in the meantime. We’re all brothers so we support each other as much as we possibly can.

Bryce – Everything’s been really great so far! I’m honestly honored to be on tour with kids I met on SoundCloud, it’s a pretty surreal feeling.

You guys did a few festival takeovers this past summer, can you compare those sets and takeovers to the tour?

Bryce – Festivals are a totally different experience.

Eric – Even if we are touring together right now, I’d still have to say festivals take the cake. It’s just an entirely different vibe. At a fest compared to playing a club show for example I feel like the overall vibe is more likely to be on point. Most of the time the sound systems outside sound a lot better for what we’re doing in regards to the low end shit.

Bryce – But comparatively there’s really no way to equate fests and shows, festivals are just a whole other spectrum.

Andrew – Festivals are a much better showcase of individual talent because on tour it’s kind of a bombardment of 4-6 hours straight of Lost Dogz.

Conrad – And sometimes we’ll all be booked on something similar festival-wise and it’s just not the same because we’re all trying to prove ourselves as individuals at fests and try to reach new crowds in our own audience. Whereas this tour is a way for us to Lost Dogz as a whole versus just like individuality.

Eric – Hopefully in the next 2 years we can incorporate the rest of the Lost Dogz members that weren’t on this tour onto one so we can fully represent us a whole.

It takes a toll for sure, but it’s honestly balanced out by all the fun we have with each other, so at the end of the day all the struggles are completely worth it. – Eazybaked

Tell me about the difficulties of touring, both from a physical and mental standpoint.

Andrew – Sleep is a big thing for both because obviously physically it isn’t helpful but after awhile it also drains you mentally. Lack of sleep is always a factor in what we do. Physical and mental health are both things that you have to be taking care of proactively instead of reactively. It takes a toll for sure, but it’s honestly balanced out by all the fun we have with each other, so at the end of the day all the struggles are completely worth it.

Bryce – Food, I can’t buy groceries for my fridge and store them because I’m in one state, one city a night and then another the next so most meals have to be out and that adds up quickly. I’m mostly eating like garbage *laughs* and it shows.

Conrad – You eat three $20 meals a day or one $10 meal and that really fucks with your overall health a lot especially when you’re drinking a bunch at night. So it’s really wise to figure out a budget for yourself from day to day on tour and you’ve got to tell yourself “ok I can’t exceed this $20-$40-$60 limit” depending on how well you’re being paid at the moment. You’ve got to be fed, you’ve got to be well-rested, and that’s a lot of our conversations right now. We went and got Thai food early today and we were collectively like “this is how we should be eating on tour” as opposed to some fried chicken or burgers. Take the extra step to actually find shit that will make you feel good versus what is just convenient in the moment. I feel like in regards to this group we have something really special, because we know how much we drink, how much we party, and we’re one of the few groups that really focused on individual well-being. You know what I mean. One of our best friends is in rehab right now, and we’re all here to back him because we saw a downfall in someone and we’re here to pick him back up.

Bryce – It can definitely be hard though because most of us are starving artists

Eric – Most things are all over the place, so it’s hard to really nail down a meal schedule and stick to a certain diet. We have late nights and early flights so your stomach can be off if you’re trying to catch a quick bite at the airport. But overall on tour we really help each other and look out for one another. We keep each other in line to the best of our ability and I feel like we all do a good job of that.

There’s two routes in the electronic music scene; the fast route which is where you mimic an already popular sound as best you can, or there’s the long, hard journey which is be yourself and have slow growth. – sumthin sumthin

Talk to me about Lost Dogz! You guys have shown tremendous growth in the past year, has it been what you were expecting? What do you believe has been the biggest factor contributing to that?

Andrew – Authenticity and originality. Authenticity in the sense that we’re all just out here trying to be uniquely ourselves and just represent who we are both as artists and as people.

Conrad – Every single one of us has our own sound, and a lot of people are out there really just saturating. We’re just trying to be the biggest, best version of ourselves and collective growth being our driving force. As long as everyone is on their own page of “I’m just trying to be myself and no one else,” then we’re representing our true intentions. There’s two routes in the electronic music scene; the fast route which is where you mimic an already popular sound as best you can, or there’s the long, hard journey which is be yourself and have slow growth.

Bryce – The special thing is that we’ve all believed in each other and our individual sounds since the beginning. We didn’t meet because we were friends in real life, we met because we each really fucked with each others’ music and felt like we could really make something great coming together.

Eric – My best friends are literally my favorite producers and artists and it’s honestly the shit. It’s an absolutely incredible feeling. When we play a track it’s because we individually believe in that artist and that track, so we have this deep connection to everything we play and I feel like that’s a perfect example of our authenticity. Our main goal has always been just to make dope beats together, and as long as we continue to do that we’re on the right path.

Conrad – In our sets it’s just us and our very close friends, we don’t play any tracks outside our circle that we don’t have any relation to.

Tell me about the impact social media, and specifically your fan groups, have had not only on your presence and fan interaction from a business/performance persona standpoint, but also as regular people?

Bryce – Mind-blowing.

Eric – It’s been crazy to see the support we’ve gotten honestly. Sometimes it even feels like an actual cult following that we’ve all brought together. These people are ride-or-die and it’s crazy to think that it’s all because of what we’re doing and the movement we’re pushing.

Conrad – In my opinion, social media isn’t our biggest impact in regards to fan engagement because, if you notice, a lot of us go to the after parties, we’re in the crowd after our sets while other people are playing, and frankly, most of our networking is just being friends with people. So, social media is cool, but that’s not why people show up to our shows. We’re not the best at social media, we’re not posting everyday, but it’s mostly about the groundwork. We do a lot of guerrilla marketing, if you will, and it’s not that we’re even conscious of it, it’s just what happens because we love the scene and the people that show up to our shows so much. I think Eazybaked is a great example of this because Eric will go out and just fucking rage with people and that creates this energy that people are attracted to because they’re like “oh my god, you’re human!?” which is such a weird thing because we each individually know we’re human, but you’ve got to show that humanity to everyone you come in contact with. I think each member of Lost Dogz does this so well and I believe that really feeds greatly into our collective success.

Bryce – And that’s why the whole thing is so mind blowing too because we’re all just normal kids that met on SoundCloud and still doing what we started doing, which is just making music. So when people come up to us and “praise” us it’s like “whoa.”

Eric – It’s hard to react to at that point honestly.

Bryce – I mean most of us still live with our parents hahaha, so to be placed on a pedestal is a strange feeling. It’s an absolute honor to have the support we do though, and something I won’t take for granted. From a business standpoint it’s working really well, but from a human perspective it’s shocking.

Eric – It’s touching, it’s humbling, it’s an incredible feeling.

Milano, the last time I interviewed you it was for your Shambhala mix! Can you talk a little about your experience at the festival?

Bryce – Shambhala is hands-down the best festival I’ve ever been to. They thoroughly care about their artists and how well the actual act is projected, you know what I mean. Other festivals are like “ok well we’ve got this side stage and we’re going to put less budget and less care into this because we have our bigger artists.” But at Shambhala, each stage is almost like its own festival, and Shambhala as a whole motivated me to keep this going. Hands down the most insane thing I’ve ever been a part of.

The last time we spoke you mentioned you had an EP on the way, would you like to talk a little about that?

Bryce – So with the EP I have 1 finished song and it’s the title track ‘Dark Energy’. Being on tour for a majority of the year hasn’t helped me finish much music to be honest. I’m so inspired to write new music, but being home for only one day at a home when I just want to sleep and eat food makes it extremely difficult to make any headway. I have another track I’m about to finish though, so there is progress being made and I’m itching to get back at it, but I’m definitely not going to rush anything.

Going off of that, how do you find a happy balance between the push to release content, while still making sure that it’s at a quality level that you deem fit? At what point do you consider a track fully completed?

Bryce – For me, a track will be finished and I won’t release it for about 2 months. The thing is, I’ll eventually get to the point where I’m like “is this good enough?” because I’ve heard it played so many times , so as an artist we have to remind ourselves that when we originally made that track we liked it and knew it was up to our standards. You can almost question yourself at times, so it’s nice to have that concrete reassurance. I have a hard time finishing music, but that’s what makes me, me. I’m not worried about quantity over quality at all. I look up to artists that can just crank out 30 tunes at a time and I’m just sitting over here with maybe 2, but if it was any other way it wouldn’t be a genuine representation of myself.

Eric – We’re very similar as well. Being on the road so much makes it very difficult to really hone in on an idea and flesh it out. Thankfully we’re taking off all of December and January, so we can really sit and marinate on tracks. Hopping in the studio, working a little bit, and then hopping back out is just not how we do things. We have to listen to a track over and over, really picking it apart.

Andrew – It’s definitely a quality over quantity approach at the end of the day, focusing on making sure everything we release is of the utmost quality that we can possibly achieve. Rather than the approach of, “how many releases can we pump out this month and then this month” constantly making deadlines to meet and detracting from creativity. There’s a middle ground to be met for sure, before you don’t want to wait so long that people lose interest, but you also don’t want to force anything and make it anything but authentic.

Eric – We just really want to make sure we’re pushing the envelope each and every time and not just putting something out to stay relevant.

Eazybaked, we haven’t had the opportunity to interview you guys before, so can you tell us how you guys got connected?

Andrew – We’ve been good friends since 3rd grade.

Eric – Yep since the 3rd grade, we’ve always been close and we started making beats together in the summer of our junior year of high school. Neither of us really had a musical background, but we were bumping Mr. Carmack and Flume and all the underground stuff. Those tracks all just really struck a chord with us.

What got you both into electronic music in the first place?

Andrew – I think it’s a little bit different for the both of us honestly. For me, it started with ripping songs off of LimeWire, and digging online originally for hip-hop. I think it definitely stemmed from hip-hop for both of us, that’s why our styles have naturally melded so well together.

Eric – For me it was really branching off of hip-hop and finding artists like Mr. Carmack and the others I mentioned through the internet and then just branching out my tastes from there. I’ve always been drawn to sounds that were unlike anything I’d heard before, I’ve always liked artists doing something different. Then we started going to shows, I had a fake ID and all that *laughs*, that pushed me into it even further. I started thinking “damn, we could really do this,” then we started fucking around working at it, and now here we are.

I feel like people make the scene into a competition in a lot of cases and I feel like it should be one big happy fucking community where everyone is free to contribute what they contribute. Making things a competition over genuine collaboration breeds egotistical bullshit. – Eazybaked

Tell me one thing that you love about the current state of the industry that you hope will grow, and one thing you currently dislike about the industry that you hope will peter out.

Eric – One thing I wish would end would definitely be people comparing one another. I feel like people make the scene into a competition in a lot of cases and I feel like it should be one big happy fucking community where everyone is free to contribute what they contribute. Making things a competition over genuine collaboration breeds egotistical bullshit. I feel like all of our intentions are in line with what we’re trying to promote, and in other areas of the scene it’s over-saturated with people doing it for the wrong reasons.

Bryce – There’s a lot of people that do it to be the next “someone,” instead of just trying to be themselves.

Andrew – It really goes back to our idea of authenticity as well.

Conrad – We never stand on the DJ table, we never yell “1, 2, ready JUMP,” we never do the stereotypical EDM shit. Not like we would want to do those things regardless, but they’re just examples of gimmicks that we don’t feel we need to do in order to be successful.

Eazybaked, you guys recently had the opportunity to play at Wakaan Music Festival in Arkansas, can you tell me about your experience there?

Eric – It was incredible! We played a 2am set which was the first late-night set time, and it was crazy to see people literally bum-rushing the stage, sprinting down this hill trying to get a good spot just for our set. People out there were literally mouthing our tracks out-loud which was totally surreal. Wakaan definitely did a lot for us, that was one of the biggest festivals we’ve played.

What artists do you guys listen to in your free time, Both EDM and non-EDM?

Eric – A plethora of things really! Edm definitely Tsuruda and Carmack, non-EDM lately I’ve been listening to a lot of Bon Iver.

Bryce – I love the Black Keys, and I’ve been listening to a lot of Animal Collective lately. I really like Modest Mouse too.

Eric – Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of chill shit, even some classical too. CJ put me on some dope airport heaters.

Conrad – I don’t listen to anything outside of real music in my free time. We do enough bass music weekend to weekend where I get inspired by bands that aren’t doing what we’re doing. One of my biggest inspirations is Coldplay, out of like everyone. Just based off the vibe they’re able to portray just in a single song like ‘Fix You’ for example. That song’s made millions of people cry their eyes out just by itself. So if I can find any sliver of life like that and put it into my own music, that would be awesome. I’d love to be able to make a bunch of people feel what I feel. So on a day-to-day basis, I almost never listen to bass music. It can almost drive you crazy if you constantly surround yourself with it.

Bryce – Especially if you’re someone that makes it. We listen back to our own songs so many times that we almost get sick of them, so listening to any other form of music that’s similar to ourselves feels almost monotonous.

Andrew – I’ve actually been listening to a ton of Weezer lately and it’s been great.

I’m with new management, they’re doing a ton of really dope shit, we’re all doing sick individual things. Next year we’re going to take some time from doing something along these lines so we can create another web and keep spreading this shit through whatever we can. – sumthin sumthin

Where do you see yourselves individually, and Lost Dogz as a whole, this time next year?

Conrad – I see us taking a year off and kind of developing each other as much as we can. I mean it’s not going to be a Lost Dogz 2.0 tour next year. This was just a cool proving ground and test to see what we can do, and I think the general consensus is to work on yourself individually and then build on that with each other. I’m with new management, they’re doing a ton of really dope shit, we’re all doing sick individual things. Next year we’re going to take some time from doing something along these lines so we can create another web and keep spreading this shit through whatever we can.

Bryce – To sum it up, a shifting of focus really.

Conrad – Not necessarily even something like a rebrand, just a realignment with our goals. Lost Dogz didn’t start off really focused, we just really liked getting rowdy.

Bryce – It wasn’t a joke, but it was like a really serious joke.

Conrad – Now that we know that people like what we’re doing and will show out to support us wherever we go, I think it’s time to be more serious about what we’re doing overall.

Lost Dogz have left their paw print on the scene this year. Having their first takeover at The Untz Festival, they have only grown in stature since then. Some other festival takeovers include Santa Cruz Music Fest, Stilldream and Lightning In A Bottle. Accumulating a vast fan base, it was only suitable to launch their own tour. Phase one kicks off in just a few days and to properly prepare they have released the official Off The Chain tour compilation.

The collection incorporates six elaborate tracks composed by different members from the pound including Abelation, EAZYBAKED, Milano, sumthin sumthin, Untitld, and vide. Each artist presents engaging productions that involve intricate low end paired with complex percussion arrangements. The synergy between this collective permeates throughout this project from beginning to end.

vide introduces the first track ‘Sub Sonar,’ that bounces around wompy boom-bap lines before the drum and bass leads takeover. Untitld then delivers ‘American Spirit,’ which takes Childish Gambino’s ‘This is America’ vocals and smashes them into a left field bass oblivion. sumthin sumthin follows this up with ‘Drip,’ an audible leak that sends frequencies deeper and deeper into an unknown realm. Next up is Milano with ‘Anti Seed,’ a track that highlights crisp sound design and fabricates a union between trap and forward thinking bass. ‘Sooped’ by EAZYBAKED is a grimy depiction of another dimension. Finally, ‘Barricade Me’ by Abelation pulls you the rest of the way into this new realm of existence, leaving you asking if this tune is allowed to be legal.

Catch the Off The Chain Tour starting September 21st in Minot, ME and listen to the full compilation below.

Bryce James, also known as Milano, has been heating up the West coast with his infectious styling of crunchy hard-hitting left field bass for several years now. Teaming up with some of the most forward-thinking minds pushing the West coast bass movement forward, he is one of the original members of Lost Dogz, a group of producer friends redefining all sounds that go “wub”. 2019 has already been a massive year for the youthful creator, with his name being found on both Lightning in a Bottle and Serenity Gathering’s lineups, both havens for some top-tier music in the western United States. Now, he’s faced with his biggest booking of the year, the 22nd installment of the prestigious Shambhala Music Festival in stunning British Columbia. To prepare fans for the sonic carnage he’s going to shower attendees with, we got to sit down to speak to him about his journey and his relationship with Lost Dogz. Along with that, he’s readied a 33 minute mix showcasing unreleased music from himself and many of his closest friends including Tvboo, Eazybaked, sumthin sumthin, and more.

Tell us a little about yourself…

My name is Bryce, I’m 23 years old. I love skateboarding and making music. I’m from South Lake Tahoe, California.

What’s your musical background like/what made you decide to go the electronic route?

My musical background is really just listening to music. I took guitar lessons in 7th grade for about 3 weeks and quit because I wanted to skateboard. I started making music when I was about 19. A friend had showed me Ableton and I made a basic drum loop and got addicted. I always was into left field bass music though. So that’s what I tried to make.

You have a really distinct signature sound. What are the core elements of the Milano sound?

To be honest I think it’s really hard for artists to hear their own sound. At least for me. I’m really trying to Bring “Milano” sound to the table with these next releases. I love me some crunchy basses and wild fills tho.

Don’t be afraid to try new things. Experimenting is 80% of this game. And re-sampling is a major key. When I make a song I probably go through at least 10 different leads before settling on one.

Do you have any sound design tips for up-and-coming producers?

Don’t be afraid to try new things. Experimenting is 80% of this game. And re-sampling is a major key. When I make a song I probably go through at least 10 different leads before settling on one. And I always save them for future purposes. Building an arsenal of sounds while you work is very helpful.

Who are the “Lost Dogz”? And how did you get involved with them?

Lost Dogz is a group of friends who met on SoundCloud about 3 years ago. Untitld and Abelation hit me up and asked if I wanted to join a group called “Lost Dogz”. I actually said no at first hahaha, But then they got the SoundCloud made with 0 followers 0 tracks, and it looked like a good time. So I hit him back up and said “let’s do this”. Every since then we’ve slowly added our best friends in the music scene & have just been releasing music together as a group.

Untitld and Abelation hit me up and asked if I wanted to join a group called “lost dogz”. I actually said no at first hahaha…

Give us your thoughts on playing at Shambhala this summer.

I AM SO STOKED TO PLAY MUSIC AT SHAMBHALA 2019. I remember listening to those old excision Shambhala mixes way back in the day and had no idea what Shambhala was as a whole. I’ve only heard amazing things about the festival and plan on attending the whole time! Also am extremely nervous.

Congrats on your contribution to their mix series, what can the listeners expect from what you’ve cooked up?

So in this mix I threw in a few ID’s from some of my best friends in the scene. Artists like Eazybaked, Vide, Abelation, TVBOO, Sumthin Sumthin, and more. I also threw in 5 ID’s of my own some of which will be on the EP. And a ‘Slither’ VIP. Which I’ll be calling ‘Slither 2.’

You mentioned on social media that you have an EP coming soon, can you tell us a little about it?

Yes! My debut EP Dark Energy is in the works. I have been carefully working on this EP since January and am stoked on how its coming along. Will be the first EP released on Lost Dogz as well.

Besides Shambhala, do you have any summer festivals you’re performing at that you’re looking forward to?

I have one more festival this summer which is Still Dream 2019. I’ll be apart of the Lost Dogz takeover featuring Untitld, Player Dave, Sumthin Sumthin, Eazybaked, and Abelation. After that I’m free until Shambhala. Loads of time to make music, hang out with family and friends and get things done.

What has you excited for the rest of the year?

Other than Shambhala 2019, I could not be more excited to be apart of the upcoming Lost Dogz tour, We are hitting all regions of North America and I’m so proud of all my friends. I’m just excited for the future in general. LOST DOGZ.

Looking to adopt a furry friend to keep you occupied during the frigid winter months? Are standard household pets simply TOO cliché for your eclectic mammal preferences? Look no further than the Lost Dogz kennel for a breed of peculiarity only suitable for the upper echelon of pet enthusiasts. Toting uncanny sounds from the likes of Abelation, untitld, sktchy ppl and BAD CHROMER, the Lost Dogz pound is packed right up to the chain link with an immeasurable amount of sonic ingenuity and non-conforming bass frequencies.

The latest collars from the doghouse, Milano & EAZYBAKED, take a bite out of the swampy classic in their interpretation of Yheti’s ‘Crack the Window.’ A latent horn medley, unmistakable from the original tune, backed with the loyalty of ferocious barking presents the introduction to the remix, while a lingering interplanetary cyclone thunders relentlessly in the background.

The storm clears momentarily as the sensational whistling pattern rings through the commotion, toiling with it the nostalgic vocal loop from Mims’ one-hit-wonder ‘Why I’m Hot, which breaks crisply into an ensemble of echoing frequencies that seem to resonate seamlessly through every facet of your eardrums.

A birthday shoutout is in order for Milano, as this track presented a ‘reverse-gift’ to his fans on his special day. The Lost Dogz have more than earned their stripes as a stomping grounds for bass of the experimental variety and with talent such as EAZYBAKED & Milano leading the pack, there’s no telling what 2019 will provide.

After landing a spot in our Focus Five segment a few months back, Milano continued to impress us with the wild release ‘Slither’ and it seems he’s only getting started. Today the sound design wizard is back with yet another mind-rattling release entitled ‘Pucker Fish’. “The title is kinda random, I was sitting in the kitchen working on the project file and the lead chain was named ‘BASS SUCC,’ so I thought of an animal that succs and the first one that came to mind was a pucker fish,” Milano tells us.

As we’ve come to expect from Milano, ‘Pucker Fish’ is as crazy as it is unique. As the track ramps up it takes listeners deeper and darker into the ocean. When the drop hits you’re transported into an underwater world that’s equal parts trippy and enthralling. Each few bars takes you deeper into the scene, uncovering more unexpected and enthralling imagery as you dive into the abyss. Milano is becoming a master at conjuring up inventive scenes with each release but the magic is often improvisational or even, at times, accidental.

“I sit there for hours every day going through really really stupid sounds until something finally sparks. I know I’m not the only producer that says this but, my ideas are all accidents almost. I never go into a song with an idea. Unless it’s a fill or intro or something,” Milano says regarding his process. Don’t let the humble words fool you, he definitely knows what he’s doing.

Stream it below and grab it on Bandcamp.

Back in May, our team featured a wicked producer by the name of Milano in our Focus Five segment. The Lake Tahoe-based artist caught our attention with his eerie approach to blending bass and trap music into one sinister listening experience. With a sound that can be described as guttural yet crisp, the Lost Dogz collective member has continuously pushed his sound into the depths of the unknown, but in the best possible way.

Yesterday, the talented producer blessed fans with his latest concoction titled ‘Slither’ that truly lives up to its name. A flawlessly engineered introduction quickly leads you into a grimey, bass-riddled drop that can only be fully appreciated with proper headphones. The combination of gnarly bass, brisk drums and perfectly placed samples make ‘Slither’ a track that will undoubtedly leave you speechless. The rest of Milano’s discography is just as jaw-dropping as ‘Slither’, so do not hesitate to check out the rest of his stuff, and listen to his newest work below!

With the month of May reaching its end that means it’s time for another installment of Focus Five, our monthly round-up of our favourite finds. This month we’ve got heavy bass producers bd hbt & Milano, summer feels and mystique from ilo ilo, club goodness from Jaymie Silk and a buffet of electronic sounds from Sofasound. Give it a read below and be sure to let us know your favorites.

bd hbt

Milan & Sam come together to form LA based duo bd hbt. They first graced our ears with their standout banger ‘og’ from Sounds From Below vol. 2. The track finds that perfect sweet spot between hard-hitting trap and experimental bass. This rings true for the bulk of their work; they have knack for keeping it weird, but not so weird that it’s off putting. In the span of just a few months they’ve consistently wow’d us with releases like ‘No Refill,’ ‘Don’t Spill’ and a killer flip of Smokepurpp & Mura Beatz ‘123’. Don’t surprised if you see bd hbt flooding your SoundCloud stream from this day forth.

ilo ilo

It’s not often that artists can conjure up an air of genuine mystique. ZHU did it to perfection but few acts have been able to follow in his footsteps. That is until now. ilo ilo has used the veil of mystery and anticipation to create something special. Their debut release ‘wait’ premiered on This Song Is Sick after they mailed them a usb with a letter. Since then it’s been gaining momentum online and even landed in Louis The Child’s latest Playground Radio episode. They’re beautifully styled Instagram provides a number of quick and enticing visuals with promising background tracks which may be forthcoming releases. While little is known about ilo ilo, one thing is for certain, ‘wait’ is phenomenal. The track feels like a mix of ZHU and Mura Masa, fusing steel drums and summery feels with gorgeous and addictive vocals. With the right support ‘wait’ could easily become one of the biggest tracks of the summer. Given the quality of their debut, the thought put into their roll-out and the teases we’ve heard on Instagram, we’re expecting big things from ilo ilo. Do. Not. Sleep.

Milano

A Lost Dog from Lake Tahoe, Milano is different type of beast. When I first heard ‘Serpents’ I instantly commented, “this is completely fucked. nicely done.” A statement I stand by 5 months later. The sound design on ‘Serpents’ is a great introduction to what Milano has to offer. It’s quite unlike anything else you’ve experienced. It’s part cartoon acid trip, part dungeon exploration. It’s dark, disturbing and crazy fun all at once. Another focal point that’s sure to convert you to fandom is ‘I Love You.’ Its intro provides a glorious and serene soundscape that drifts into a heart and neck-breaking barrage of bass. Milano is a mad scientist and we can’t wait to see what he concocts next.
–C

Jaymie Silk

We’ve always been proponents of Jersey Club here at FUXWITHIT, both for its club qualities and undeniable energy, and Montreal’s Jaymie Silk brings both in droves. While starting in the house sphere, his productions have always showcased a plenitude of potent percussion. Of course Jersey Club is best known for its bouncy bootlegs, and Jaymie has more than his share of stunning successes: see his Sinjin Hawke ‘Don’t Lose Yourself To This,’ and Blocboy JB ‘Look Alive’ edits. But his skills also include authoring awesome originals. With two EPs already this year, he’s been able to exhibit his experience in the ballroom and vogue scenes, crafting truly unique club tracks. His latest, Savage, is just that, a three piece afro-baile banger. If you’re in the market for floor filling club cuts that jump out the speakers, look no further than the sensational Silk.
–OJ

Sofasound

My first encounter with Floridian feels fabricator Sofasound came when he dropped a dizzying reconstruction of Justin Timberlake in ‘Don’t Think About It.’ And believe it or not, his most recent release ‘Twilight On The Hill’ also takes on JT, yet the two tracks are sheer standalone splendor. That said, Sofasound is no one trick pony. He’s as adept at working with vocalists as he is at chopping them. But for my money his brilliance is best seen in his incredible and unmistakable music ability. This is no flash in the pan talent. He clearly knows what he’s doing and does it extremely well. Whether it’s more chill R&B based future bass or more fiery funk, Sofasound’s productions always burst at the seams. Take for example the awe-inspiring ‘Very Wow’ which showcases a soft touch, sensational sound design and masterful musicianship. Just press play and you cannot miss.
–OJ
