Austrian-based Mo Vibez is a true SoundCloud OG. With an unreal talent for sound design redolent of Evil Needle, Mr. Carmack, Josh Pan, and other beatmaker legends, Mo Vibez has carved himself a lane over the years with a healthy heap of independent releases and collaborations alike. His discography ranges from introspective, downtempo beats to the most heavy-hitting trap anthems; it’s impossible to pigeon-hole this eclectic producer into any one genre.

It’s rare that I hear a Mo Vibez track that doesn’t leave me floored on the first listen. The man’s relentless pursuit of unique and pioneering sounds never gets old, and for all his releases, the quality of his output never stutters. Some people really just have that “prodigy” feel to their art and Mo Vibez is no exception. That said, I’m ecstatic to have this luminary producer join us for this week’s guest mix. Let’s get into it!

Welcome! What kind of “vibez” can we expect to hear from your guest mix?

I really tried to showcase my different styles for this mix. Also every track is produced by me and a lot of them aren’t even out yet. I hope you guys enjoy.

sometimes it’s just better to go by gut feeling and just put music out

You have a lot of single releases outside of your Vibeout Club series. Is there something in particular you had in mind when choosing what tracks to include on those albums instead of dropping them individually?

I try to find tracks with similar styles or moods to combine. I’m also an over-thinker with that so sometimes it’s just better to go by gut feeling and just put music out.

Do you incorporate any live instrumentation into your music? If so, what instruments do you play?

I started my musical journey by playing drums and guitar as a kid. I recorded a lot of instruments and vocals over the years. But lately I’m more on the computer side sampling and trying to come up with creative sounds and rhythms.

What’s the music scene like around you in Austria? Do you get many opportunities to play live sets?

I’m not super aware to be honest. I know in the bigger cities, there is definitely a crowd for drum and bass and dubstep/bass music. And a decent club and festival scene. I used to play a bunch of shows in Vienna but I haven’t in a while. But I’m stoked to play more shows again this year.

What inspired you to start producing music?

I discovered Skrillex and Dubstep around 2012 and really wanted to know how to make those crazy sounds and produce in general Me and my good friend Siki messed around with FL Studio and did our first footsteps. About a year later I switched to Ableton bc I read somewhere that Skrillex uses it haha. I just started making beats and it became an almost daily thing. Around 2015 I discovered Mr. Carmack and he changed my perspective on production quite a bit. So I started Mo Vibez and explored more into Trap/Bass music directions. I try to make music that makes me feel something special. And I hope people can feel that when they hear it.

If there is a good blend of both styles and inspirations something really beautiful happens. Music that wouldn’t be possible to make by myself or by themselves.

Is there anything you look for when deciding to collaborate with another producer, or are you open to working with just about anyone?

I love to work with musicians and producers. If there is a good blend of both styles and inspirations something really beautiful happens. Music that wouldn’t be possible to make by myself or by themselves. I really appreciate when that happens.

What kind of value do you see in creating sample packs? Do you ever worry that doing so might undermine the uniqueness of your personal style?

I got asked how I process my drums and synths a lot and originally put out one sample pack. I received very good feedback so I kept it going from there. I’m collecting my favourite sounds for myself and give people the chance to use them if they like to and it’s a good way to support my work.

Who are your favorite artists to listen to right now?

Chee, The Caracal Project, Bakey, Hamdi, Herzeloyde, Skrillex.

How did you come up with the name “Mo Vibez?”

My first name is Muhammed Jacob and people called me Mo a lot. I also produce a lot of different genres, styles & vibes so I came up with the name Mo (more) Vibez.

You’re one of many artists that have begun to use Patreon’s subscription service to share your beats and workflow. Have you seen a lot of success from this? Do you think it’s a better format than, say, Bandcamp?

It’s really fun to teach Ableton, sound design ideas and share unreleased tracks with my supporters. It’s a cool platform and again another good way to directly support me and get goodies in return.

Share a fun fact with us about yourself that we definitely wouldn’t know!

I actually do not listen to a lot of music outside of me creating it.

Lucid Monday has become renowned for their stacked compilations but LM023 might be their biggest to date. Coming out of the gate swinging is the homerun of a banger ‘It’s A Party.’ Not only does it see the return of Losco but it has them linking with Dabow and Mo Vibez. Anticipation could not be higher for this, but it easily delivers. Following with another all-star line-up is Octbr, Dilip, Soudiere & DJ YUNG VAMP with ‘Ride.’ It’s a hazy cloud trap tune with a back half that hits harder than a blunt to the dome. ini (formerly inimicvs) impresses as always with the short but sweet ‘I Just Want’ packing his signature bounce. Other standouts include L*o*j’s ‘Rollin,’ Chromonicci’s ‘Crisis,’ Enuar’s ‘Ivory’ and aedfx.’s ‘Bajo’. If that wasn’t already stacked enough, the project also features Quickly Quickly x Dilip x Olswel, The K0unt, bsterthegawd, Hanz and more! Monday’s aren’t so bad when Lucid Monday is putting out new heat.

Through lands of sand dunes in a far eastern culture, arises the overwhelming force of the Juggernaut EP. A collaboration from the underground by the team of L*o*J and Mo Vibez. With L*O*J being a Switzerland duo, and Mo Vibez representing Austria, it was only a matter of time before the inventive minds were to collide. In this EP they are able to construe something truly unique. It gives listeners a fresh and new perspective on typical trap sounds. There are multiple oriental influences in the sounds chosen like flutes and horns, that are paired with traditional trap undertones and hard hitting bass that will flex any system’s subwoofers.

When combining extraordinary forward-thinking minds, the hybrid artistic product is typically something unseen or unheard of. Much like taking two underground artists and shoving them in a studio together, it is known a new blend of styles will come from this. A slow paced, action packed story line evokes a relaxed adrenaline rush among listeners. It is comparable to drinking caffeine in hopes of energy, only to receive body jitters but without the typical energy crash. You’ll find yourself filling your cup again and again, craving more and more.

The paradox in sound design is a statement of these artists’ skill. The pulsating 808’s are contradicted by various textures and percussion extracts in a way that proposes symmetry. The intro depicts a long expedition through a scorching sand dune that leads a group of assassins to a place of meditation. Arriving in ‘Medina‘, a city in Saudi Arabia, the next track continues this voyage into the land of peace and tranquility. In this city’s center is the building of a prophet, with a striking green dome, that rises above the tombs ahead. By the end of this track, ears are fixed on the entourage of textural diversity. Moving forward into the title track ‘Juggernaut‘, the sun is settling on the backs of the assassins as they depart the city back into the open wilderness of countless mirages and dunes. A trek that seems to be never ending finally sheds hope on finding items of value, only to stumble upon what was once thought to be only a myth, the human juggernaut awakens. A back and forth free for all between sound and a quest to have this juggernaut join the assassins carries out the rest of the EP’s energy. Decide for yourself if the juggernaut teams up with the assassins or defeats them in their search for treasure with a listen below.

For the producers out there, and anyone purchasing the EP, send screenshots of your purchase to the artists to receive a free sample pack that contains multiple sounds used in this project.
