Rod Dawson, better known by his stage name Volt, has continued to shock the bass scene with his innovative and hard-hitting signature sound. If there was one producer to call on to deliver a fury of both dubstep and bass inspired music, Volt would definitely be the one on speed dial. From absolutely destroying shows around the globe from Los Angeles all the way to Tokyo, this producer has proven to build an army of bass lovers fueled by his mind blowing production style to leave you questioning where his unique sound has been all your life. Continuing to take us on multiple rides through his new wip’s, Volt is changing the game one beat at a time as he flawlessly blends dubstep and house with his highly charged remix of Moody Good’s ‘SIXTYSIXTY.’

Launching with a solid tech-house inspired beat in the background, distorted vocals lure you into Volt’s vortex of heavy drops which go even harder over time.Volt manages to keep Moody Good’s original vibe of wobbling bass and slow tempo madness while intertwining nasty metal wrenching instrumentals with a side of bounce. Going zero to one hundred real quick, the second drop easily leaves listeners in a state of “WTF” as Volt brings the gas to deliver a force not many can take lightly. Satisfying both dubstep and house enthusiasts, if you are trying to catch a feel of riding the rail while simultaneously getting groovy on the dancefloor, Volt has just provided the vibe with this release.

Among the quickly saturating throng of immensely talented dubstep producers sits an artist that needs no introduction after curating one of the most profound discographies of the past decade. That artist is longstanding legend Moody Good. Already firmly staking his claim in 2020 with stupendous releases like his Goofball remix EP, and a massive VIP to the all-time classic ‘Hotplate,’ he’s aiming straight for the jugular, game time over. Now, his latest release ‘Swervy,’ out on Deadbeats, continues his tyrannical tirade of tumultuous, yet titillating, tunes.

Intimidating you right off the bat, ‘Swervy’ immediately greets you with a gritty quiet loop in the background while the vocal sample “swervy” is thrusted forcefully into your ear canals. Featuring the trademarked glitchy ludicrousness that is Moody Good’s traditional sound, his fingerprints all over this one in all the best ways. Sprinkling vocal samples over the beats adds even more emphasis, turning any room into a no-holds-barred brawl of epic proportions. The latter drop is much more rhythmic, trading chaos for closed-fist punch thickness. The amount of flow in this piece shouldn’t even be legal, turning every listener into a mindless zombie for four minutes and fourteen seconds. ‘Swervy’ is yet another audible weapon of mass destruction added to Moody Good’s already spectacular arsenal, but that’s no surprise. Check it out for yourself below!

First making his start as a solo artist in 2014 after he took a new path from his duo project 16 Bit, Moody Good has been blazing a path of low-key audio destruction, never fully achieving or even pursuing the main stage headliner aesthetic. His first major release under his newfound moniker was his Moody Good LP, which was released to immensely enthusiastic applause from virtually every angle in the industry, displaying a truly unique sound design and overall presence. By far the most successful track on the LP was ‘Hotplate‘, a titanic blend of sensational rap verses courtesy of Knytro and bone-crushing dubstep that still gets rinsed in sets to this day by some of the biggest movers and shakers in the game. After his 2015 EP release of This Is the Investigation, which also garnered him major attention, he seemed to fall off the face of the Earth, choosing to focus on being a legendary parent versus being a legendary artist. 4 years later, his triumphant return came in March of 2019 in the form of the Goofball EP, and he’s been on a relentless hot streak ever since. Now, 6 years after the release of the original, he’s blessed the world with a revival of ‘Hotplate,’ in the form of its absolutely vicious VIP.

From the opening notes of the ‘Hotplate VIP,’ you’ll be instantly thrown into a state of complete nostalgia, reliving all the moments of pure bliss the original gave you over the years. The electricity that courses through your body will make the hair on your arms stand firmly at attention, your anticipation fiercely growing as you near the first drop, your mind wondering what this madman could have possibly cooked-up to compete with the veracity of the original. Fear not, as all preformed expectations will be immediately shattered, as the growth in his sound design and overall production oozes freshly out of your speakers. To call this piece “heavy” is a ludicrous understatement, as it bodies a vast majority of dubstep tracks currently out on the market. The original swag is fully present and expanded upon to the nth degree, and will surely be fueling egos for a full 4 minutes and 6 seconds for years to come. The opening vocals of “If life is like a box of chocolates, damn I’ve sure got my pick,” couldn’t be any closer to the truth, as this man is wholeheartedly back with a vengeance, and fans will be left situated on the very edges of their seats for what he’ll be dropping next. Check out the ‘Hotplate VIP’ in all its glory below!

From his Cyclops Army EP, to a collaboration with the legend Rusko, to the ever-present festival-infiltrating ‘Griztronics,’ there is no denying that Subtronics has elevated his production game this year, proving that he has earned every ounce of the success he has gotten over the last few months.

Continuing to ride the wave of his recent triumphs, the Philadelphia-based artist is back with Wooked On Tronics, a five-track offering furthering the depths of his ceaselessly expanding sound. With most of the tracks having been heard in his Now That’s What I Call Riddim Vol. 4 mix or in clips of live sets, fans are ecstatic to finally get their hands on some of Subtronics’ most highly-anticipated unreleased material.

Kick-starting the EP is ‘Death Wish,’ which creeps from the silence with slow-burning beats in quintessential Subtronics fashion before the tempo gets raised, vocal chops get added into the mix and sound design hell breaks loose. ‘Gyroscope’ comes in next with wonky melodies, crunchy cuts and trippy samples, before ‘Face Off’ lives up to its name, melting your face through a hypnotic arrangement of heavy bass stabs. ‘Failure Rate’ follows, lulling one into a false sense of security with a twinkling introduction, setting the scene for the cinematic builds and stuttering drops to come. Legendary producer Moody Good joins Subtronics for the closing track titled ‘MAD,’ where both producers display their peak sound design in a relentlessly explosive end to the varied collection of tracks.

Wooked On Tronics is Subtronics at his best. Don’t miss it below.

Late last year, one of our posts for our #tbt series featured Moody Good‘s remix for Slum Village’s ‘Fall In Love‘. We capped off that article by wishing for more from the musical genius in 2019, as it had been almost two years since his last official work. A tweet on February 5th confirmed his return to releases this year, before Never Say Die officially announced the release of Moody Good’s Goofball EP soon after. As tracks slowly started appearing on SoundCloud as this week progressed in anticipation of the big release, fans were quickly reassured that Moody Good remains atop the bass throne.

In a four-track endeavour, Moody Good is able to simultaneously silence all haters who claimed he fell off, while going above and beyond all expectations of those who eagerly awaited his return. ‘SIXTYSIXTY’ leads off the project in a display of otherworldly, unmimicable sound design. A track that has been teased for years and played out by the likes of G Jones and others, Moody Good offers relentless bass that will melt your face off for the majority of the four-plus minute track. ‘Squeeky Clean’ follows, where the bass mastermind teams up with Hydraulix to deliver another earth-shattering monster. Showcasing more pristine engineering paired with musical synergy, the two talented producers create a festival-ready banger.

It is truly unjust to try to describe the mastery behind the entire project with words. ‘ANTI-ACID’ and ‘Jimmytrics’ close out the flawless Goofball EP in a further flex of Moody Good’s innate ingenuity. Check out the Goofball EP and find out for yourself why Moody Good is in a league of his own.

And, although his bass tracks get the most love, Moody Good has also proven to have a softer side in ‘Satoshi Nakamoto’ and today’s feature, his remix for Slum Village’s ‘Fall In Love’.

Four and a half years after its release, Moody Good’s ‘Fall In Love’ remix is still being played out in mixes and sets by a ton of trap and future bass artists. Flume’s self-titled album is arguably the only future bass work that has remained as timeless as this remix. It’s not insane bass or raw energy that make this track so appealing, but its simplicity to the untrained ear despite its true complexity to the experts. Captivating chord progressions paired with meticulous sound design flip the original hip-hop track into an electronic masterpiece, showcasing Moody Good’s exceptional musical genius.

Here’s to hoping for more Moody Good in 2019. Check out the remix below.

If you need an introduction to producer and DJ Oski, look no further than his brand new EP Kid Calamity, which is currently out on Quality Goods Records and creating serious waves. As the first contributor in our new series ‘FUXWITHIT Floor-Fillers,’ here are five sounds Oski would use to create a frenzy on the dance floor.

Enjoy the ride!

1. Mura Masa – ‘Hell’ (Vincent Remix)

“Vincent thickened out ‘Hell’ by Mura Masa and I love it.

2. Moody Good – ‘Get Deaded’ (Moody Good Remix)

“This remix is huge. Moody Good absolutely destroyed this…that sound design is incredible.”

3. sumthin sumthin – ‘Moves’ ft. Snowy

“sumthin sumthin is definitely a name to keep an eye on. His tunes are super fire and I love the grime vibes on this.”

4. ZEKE – ‘Dispatch’

“Gotta rep Australia and rep my dude ZEKE.”

5. Hydraulix – ‘Head Bang’

“Also gotta rep my dude Hydraulix with ‘Head Bang’ – one of the chunkiest tunes this year, and one that will fit nicely into your 160BPM playlist.”
