As the world crumbled around us, juuku was there to pick up the pieces and provide peace through his soothing releases. Earlier this year, the enigmatic producer dropped the EP’s title track ‘warmth’, ‘leaving’, and ‘just lost’ featuring Manila Killa. Now, juuku’s debut EP warmth has arrived via Moving Castle, and we’re super excited we get to finally experience the whole project together.

Although juuku is known as quite an anonymous artist, he took time to reveal parts of himself in an exclusive interview with us. So while you’re taken on the sonic odyssey that is warmth, get personal with juuku and learn his inspirations, ways to recharge, and what we can expect from him for the rest of 2021.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to talk with us! First and foremost, how are you?

Thank you so much for having me!! I’m doing great. Just got over the most random bout of depression this week. feeling mentally and spiritually recharged. Made a song this week and I’m really excited about how it’s coming out!

We can’t wait to hear it! I also have to ask, how do you feel now that you got your first dose of the vaccine?

Tbh I feel good! I slept like a baby and woke up with a sore shoulder. But other than that I’ve been feeling great. heard that second dose is a heater though lol

I read in your interview with Saint Audio that you started doing your own visuals because you felt like you could see what was happening in the song. Even at first glance from the titles of your EP—starting with ‘arrival’ and ending with ‘departure’—it seems like you’re curating a journey for your listeners. Can you tell us more about what you’re hoping we experience while listening to warmth?

Yeah! I wanted this EP to feel like a destination separate from the world you live in- a place you can visit and collect and discover parts of yourself. And when the moment you need to return to your own world, you’ll bring the parts of you that you’ve found along the way.

So your identity’s a mystery right now, but on March 6th you tweeted “𝘪 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺 𝘢 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘺.” Now that live events are coming back soon, are you planning on staying anonymous?

Yes and honestly, that’s something I’m still trying to figure that out- I’m probably going to do some kind of silhouette paired with some kind of face covering. No full-on helmet though bc they get really hot lol.

Being anonymous doesn’t stop you from sharing small parts of your life though. Sometimes you’ll tell us you’re walking your dogs or showing us nature videos… What other ways do you like to recharge, especially after making such emotionally centric music?

Watching any shows/anime/movies that put me in my feelings. Making visuals also really helps me recharge in an interesting way too since my creative output is fully focused on the visual aspect than the usual auditory aspect. Also traveling is also such a huge one but I haven’t been able to do that (along with everyone else!) since quarantine.

On another note, for someone who makes such soft and romantic sounds, why do you like shooting games so much? LOL

Lmaoo right? I guess it’s my outlet and clears my headspace a lot. what’s weird is I’ll play in the morning before a long studio or render session and it’ll get me 10000% ready to start creating. I have no idea why or how that works. Maybe it just empties out all the non-creative energy that I have.

Okay, so you made 2 tracks a month last year, which is super ambitious and admirable, considering everything that’s been going on. Do you have any big goals for 2021?

Thank you ♡ honestly the EP was the main goal of this year and it’s such an amazing experience to see it manifest and grow (s/o moving castle and the team) and the collab with Manila Killa was another huge goal too. For the rest of the year, I’d love to get another big collab under my belt and do a proper debut live show (if safety permits).

Is there anything else that you want to talk about that I didn’t ask about?

Just wanted to say thanks again for having me! You’re such an amazing interviewer <3 and I hope you and everyone enjoy this little creation I’m about to put out :)

Thank you again for chatting! Be safe and congrats on being microchipped! (I’m not an anti-vaxxer, I am also vaccinated)

Out now on Moving Castle, ‘on the way’ is a Cinderella story in the making, with ilo ilo stating, “we write a lot of songs about heartbreak. This isn’t one of those songs. We wanted to find a cool way to bridge our three sonic worlds.” What initially started as a studio session between Manila Killa and ilo ilo evolved into full blown collaboration between the three acts, with each offering a distinctive touch to the final product. ‘on the way’ is a lush, cutesy ballad that uses crisp vocals to captivate your attention in the introduction, before the musicality shines through during the drops. Not overbearing with complexity yet still pulling on your heartstrings through its catchy breaks, ‘on the way’ is bound to put a smile on your face. Don’t miss it below.

Vices burst onto the scene blending future bass and jersey club for a sound that made them instant favorites. They’re an essential part of the success of the Moving Castle Collective and have dropped some of the nastiest club tracks out in the past 2 years. We’ve been supporting them since they’re early days so it’s overdue that Vices lace us with an exclusive guest mix.

The 30 minute mix kicks off with an upbeat, soft and melodic feel. The custom intro is actually a variation of a track set to drop on their new EP, which is being finalized. Don’t let the dreamy feel fool you, this mix is not pretty. As the intro transitions into a fierce drum break things get nasty. The bulks of the mix centres around a hard hitting underground club feel rattled with under the radar heaters and a sprinkling of familiar faces (Hasse De Moore, Hudson Mohawke, KRNE & Alexander Lewis). As an added bonus we get a taste of two unreleased cuts from Vices near the end. The mix rides out with some ignorant rap courtesy of Kodak Black and Young Thug before closing it off with Yung Gud’s massive ‘No Excuse’ VIP. Stream the mix below and grab the free download.

In just two years they’ve gone from relative unknowns to the best up-and-comers in the industry with everyone from Skrillex to Cashmere Cat taking note. This summer AObeats, Robokid, Yung Wall Street, and Hunt for The Breeze embarked on their first North American Tour. We had the pleasure of connecting with AObeats, Robokid, Yung Wall Street and Chet Porter at their final stop in Toronto. We discussed everything from what sets collectives apart from labels, to their plans for Moving Castle Volume 5, the tour and getting support from Skrillex. Check out the interview below.

On Saturday August 1st the Moving Castle squad brought their Virtual Summer Tour to Toronto at Studio Bar. I arrived at the venue early in preparation for our interview (which will be up on our site soon). My first time at Studio Bar, the dimly lit, intimate venue was a perfect setting for the rising production collective. Walking into the venue catches you off guard; the entrance is a small cafe that could serve as a front for an up-and-coming mob boss in a Hollywood flick. As you walk past the entranceway, it opens up to a large bar with ample seating and intriguing artwork. Situated further at the back is a stage and dance floor with booth seating and red lights lining the sides. The bar has a fun, familiar feel with a great selection of beer, including a personal favorite, Boneshaker on tap.

Chet Porter shot by Hector Vasquez for FUXWITHIT

Around 10pm the venue started to fill in and local Moving Castle artist, Chet Porter, took the stage making his DJ debut. A perfect start to the night, combining Kawaii inspired future bass feels with a sprinkling of hard trap (RL Grime) and even some ignorant rap (‘Bandz A Make Her Dance’). As Chet warmed the crowd up AObeats, Robokid, and Yung Wall Street hung out at a booth just off the stage, enjoying the show and laughing it up. The scene was that of a couple of true friends having the time of their life. As Chet played out his ‘Stay The Night’ rework, Yung Wall Street joined him on stage and began setting up. As Porter’s set came to a close, Yung Wall Street cut the music down to give Chet a huge shoutout which got a great reaction from the crowd.

Yung Wall Street shot by Hector Vasquez for FUXWITHIT

Yung Wall Street took hold of the CDJs with strong charisma and song selection from the jump, kicking it off with an upbeat future RnB sound and moving into a number of his own tunes including his ‘FDB’ flip, ‘Moonlight Tower’, ‘Talking Body’ and more. He balanced out the smooth sexy vibe with some harder Jersey Club records, adding a dimension of grittiness to his set. Throughout the night the artists remained friendly and down to earth, taking time to talk to any fans who approached them.

Robokid shot by Hector Vasquez for FUXWITHIT

The transition between Yung Wall Street and Robokid was smooth, and if you weren’t watching the stage it may have taken a few minutes to realize it before the vibe began to change. Robokid had an air of distinct focus while DJing. The look on his face said, “I didn’t just come here to play music, I came to fuck this place up,” and that he did. He bodied the venue with a heavier sound than I would have predicted with the Vices x Gutta ‘Computers’ remix being a highlight. His set also included one of the nastiest club records I’ve ever heard; a blend of deep bass, hard kicks and stray bullets.

AObeats shot by Hector Vasquez

AObeats capped the night off, building on the momentum of his fellow crew members. Keeping the energy up AObeats mixed in his own productions with a variety of Moving Castle tracks and more. His sound is a blend of hip-hop, pop, future bass and RnB. Hearing him play out the massive new ‘Helix 2.0’ was incredible. I had to leave before the night came to a close but have little doubt that the co-founder closed things out with a bang. I left the club with mixed emotions, disappointed to be leaving prematurely but smiling from ear to ear, grateful for the experience. Though the club wasn’t packed to capacity, it was amazing to see the strong support of their Toronto fans. From the couple rocking matching Moving Castle long sleeve tees to everyone singing and swaying along to the music. Moving Castle has taken internet by storm and with performances like this they’re set to take over the globe, one show at a time. For more on Moving Castle look out for our exclusive interview coming soon.
