The return to routine after the December limbo has been wild. We’re all talking excitedly about a Bad Bunny album, we’re on the verge of losing the whole TikTok music scene and Skrillex is ready to hit our mailboxes with new material. Not bad for the first few weeks I guess.

If December is canonically a month monopolized by throwbacks and charts, January is the month devoted to IDs. As expected, in the past few weeks SoundCloud and YouTube have been flooded with unreleased-original production-deep dive mixes, stuffed with songs that could become hits in the next twelve months… or never see the light of day. It’s always a fun yet tricky game to play. You could spot an early banger whose knowledge you can flex to your friends at the next rave or find your new obsession that will never be available to buy or play on streaming platforms.

If you’re willing to get involved in this wicked game, we have handpicked eight unmissable mixes, spanning UKG, wave, trap, club bass, which altogether will feed you more than 100 IDs.

msft. has been a persistent favorite of ours here at FUXWITHIT. This Italian-based producer has consistently released some of the cleanest and most forward-thinking breakbeat-inspired tracks over the last few years. The UK influence runs deep on lowercasE as well with delightful two-step drum patterns and garage-friendly tempos. He self-describes the EP as a “collection of 4 tracks you can vibe to pretty much anywhere you want,” and damn did he hit the nail on the head.

There is a pleasant homogeneity to the four tracks on lowercasE, but it would be shortsighted to say that any of them sound exactly the same. While clearly sharing the same UK-based influences, each track is unique with differing energy levels and moods. ‘dontwaiT’ and ‘inthedarK,’ for example, both share sultry vocals and rolling basslines that could get any crowd to break out their best moves. ‘aaaH’ and ‘elevateD (feat. Rakjay)’ feel more like transitional tracks that a DJ could throw in their repertoire to keep crowds moving without sacrificing the vivacity of the set. This back-and-forth on the EP makes for an easy listening session, with the caveat that if used tastefully, any of these four tracks have the potential to make a dance floor explode.

I’m all for the continued resurgence of garage- and breakbeat-inspired tunes we’re seeing across the music landscape at the moment. To that end, msft. here is 100% doing his part. Check out lowercasE below and get those knees up high while you two-step the night away.

Created by Alessio and msft as a way to celebrate and explore the art and science of music production, the podcast has already featured icons like Slumberjack, Eastghost, Bossfight and FUXWITHIT favourites like Rome In Silver, sumthin sumthin, and Rohaan. Each episode has seen the talented guests share their expertise on their craft, filling the conversations with production hacks on topics such as vocal mixing, harmonic distortion, and resampling. Plus a plethora of other tips, anecdotes, plugin recommendations, track reviews, and more.

In the final instalment, msft is joined by US producer ALEPH for a masterclass dedicated to sound design. The two tackle their approach to sound design, dealing with loudness war, FL Studio usability vs. Ableton, their workflow in creating sample packs, the philosophy behind Renraku, and all the recurrent features that appeared in the previous episodes.

As the sponsor of this first season, we’re excited to premiere the finale. For the next 24 hours, you can watch episode seven of Phasing Issues exclusively here on FUXWITHIT.

Tiesto has released his first drum&bass song in over a decade, Brownies&Lemonade’s DNBNL project has partnered with Deadbeats and is going to Tomorrowland, Deadmau5 has played a D&B set at EDC Mexico, Chase & Status are once again one of hottest acts around, a new North American WORSHIP tour is about to kick off and Rohaan has just wrapped up another multi-week series of show in the States.

Now. I won’t say the phrase. Nor will I dust off the infamous hashtag (you know the one). I’m just being objective. The ball is rolling (pun intended) and this gives me a chance to throw myself into the fray with something that flirts with both culture and SEO. This month I bring back Bootleg Business with a massive drum&bass pack of 30 (unofficial) remixes that showcase pretty much everything the genre has to offer. Forget obscure cuts or hyper-sophisticated intellectual material though, this collection is strictly party-friendly. We have jump-up bangers, mainstage classic reworks, liquid rollers, ten-year-old remixes, ten-day-old remixes, weird bootlegs, and cheesy edits of pop songs. This Bootleg Business volume has it all. Rumble remix included.

Friendly reminder that this list doesn’t pretend to showcase the finest bootlegs around, nor the rarest. Music can be (just) fun, remember? This is an opportunity to have fun celebrating the art of unofficial remixes and, why not, a chance to find some new goodies to spice up your tracklists ahead of the festival season. As in the case of my summer special, the playlist is loosely divided into two parts. It starts with the heaviest cuts and it progresses into the more melodic tracks.

Have fun!

It is with great excitement that we announce the launch of Phasing Issues, a brand-new podcast that explores the art and science of music production. The new series is a collaborative effort between two minds sitting at opposite ends of the musical universe. Alessandro Garbellini aka msft is a talented producer and producing coach who has been a mainstay on FUXWITHIT for years and a favorite amongst the electronic scene. On the other side is Alessio Anesi, a former podcaster and music journalist (who happens to be a core member of the FUXWITHIT team). Combining their widely different (yet complementary) industry expertise, the duo came up with a concept to celebrate music production in an unfiltered and unpretentious way.

Phasing issues happen when you have two sound waves that are moving in the opposite direction, at the same rate, at the same time.

With the title drawing its name from a technical challenge experienced by producers, it should come as no surprise that this is a podcast created and hosted by an artist, in collaboration with artists, for artists (and hardcore music nerds). Season one is hosted by msft and sees him connecting with an impressive list of creators that include Slumberjack, Rohaan, Rome In Silver, sumthin sumthin, Eastghost, Bossfight, and Aleph.

Each installment leans on the specific guest’s expertise for a diverse and informative experience, filled with new tips, insights, production hacks, anecdotes, and recommendations. The 30-minute episodes take a conversational style that allows even the most technical discussions to feel digestible.

FUXWITHIT is extremely excited to join season one as a sponsor to help extend the reach of the incredible project. The first episode features the iconic Australian production duo Slumberjack and can be streamed below! Look out for new episodes weekly (with one or two short intermissions).

msft.’s artistic route up to this point has always been marked by the tendency to go harder, faster, stronger. From his early trap works such as ‘Wool Hoodie‘, which incorporated a marked atmospheric component, we have come to the breakbeat frenzy that has characterized his latest works such as ‘Alley‘ and his latest contribution to Sable Valley Summer vol. 4 compilation. With this brand new self-release, titled ‘Break It,’ msft. breaks (pun intended) this cycle and returns to linger in the more monochromatic and minimalist atmospheres of his early days, reintroducing them blended with his more recent UK-flavoured sound.

“In the last years I focused on creating wall of sounds and pushing them as hard as I could,” msft. tells us while on a call, almost with a hint of self-criticism, “This time I wanted to step back and change approach. I worked on this track as it was a collaboration between present and ‘old’ msft.” He adds, “My only guidelines were minimalism and catchiness, and look at this [‘Break It’]. Just a few, right elements, a simple but effective groove and I made one of the songs I’m most proud of.”

Indeed, like a perfect chess match, in nothing but few moves msft. delivers an outright heater, perfect both for tantalizing eardrums through headphones or moving bodies on the dancefloor. It’s definitely a slow burner and not a peak-time tune, but ‘Break It’ is the perfect choice for DJs who want to give their crowds a break (again, pun intended) but do not let the atmosphere cool down. Do you want to trigger some bass faces? Pick the first drop. Do you want to fuel some mosh pits? Pick the second one because that Bloody Beetrots-style synth (‘Warp 1.9’ everyone?) will definitely get tempers flaring and elbows up.

Listen to ‘Break It’ below or on your favorite platform.

Despite the fact Mariah Carey memes have started to make their reappearance online, the good season is far from being over. We still have a full month of summer ahead of us! Days and nights packed with parties, pre-parties, after-parties, BBQs, raves, festivals, car trips, bonfires, and everything in the middle. Your USBs and playlists still need to be in perfect shape, filled with heaters for this final rush.

If you’re running short of aces up your sleeve, well, this Bootleg Business Summer Special got you covered. No guest this time, just me and an extended selection of twenty of the best (unofficial) remixes and edits I had on heavy rotation over the past months. Expect some brand-new releases, some classics and some weird stuff by the likes of Baauer, Darby, Hans Gadler, ethanplus, paul mond, Farrah, Chopsoe, and many more. The playlist is split into two parts. The first is focused on bouncy, groovy genres while the second is heavier and more bass-focused.

Have fun!

When msft. announced the start of his breakbeat season, he wasn’t joking. With his last single of the year, titled ‘alley’, the north-Italian producer doubles down on this commitment, carrying on the path inaugurated by the two heavy hitters ‘the only‘ and ‘Crash Test’, and his surprising remix of Daniel Allan’s ‘Glass House.’ “I’m very satisfied with this latest streak of releases but the best part is that it looks like more and more people are on board with this sound,” Msft. tells us. “As I’ve mentioned before, I’m feeling there’s a breakbeat renaissance on the rise and it’s exciting to see it’s quickly catching on with my US fans as well.” Delving into ‘alley’, he mentioned, “[Alley] is meant to be an ominous breakbeat tune. I imagined myself going to an underground rave in an obscure and undefined place, hearing music from outside without figuring out where the exact location was.”

This “cliffhanger vibe” is strong in ‘alley,’ especially when compared to the aforementioned releases. With its minimalism, ‘alley’ isn’t a peak-time weapon. It’s a slow burner. A track that unleashes its terrific potential when used to set the mood. To lead the listener within the musical journey that can be a dj set or a mix. This clearly won’t be a favorite of those who are fully into the drop-only culture, but it will not go unnoticed by the ears of those who seek storytelling applied to the art of DJing. Fun fact, ever since I first heard it, I could not help but notice a parallelism between ‘alley’ and Rohaan’s ‘Darlin‘.

You can stream ‘alley’ below or on your favorite platform here. Be sure to keep an eye out for more msft. announcements because his annual FUCK 2022 mix is coming “sooner than you expect.”
