In this project we are presented with ten tracks, all of which are standouts on their own. To have them grouped together all in one place is likely to cause a fire if left unattended. In addition to the artists we saw on volume one such as IANY, CAPTSIS and MIDNIGHT, we see some new additions from familiar faces and some FUXWITHIT favorites including U.O.ME, TaDa, L’HOMIE, Gurf, and KUREI to name a few. This collection highlights the sense of community these artists have established. All of which are working together with a like-minded goal and share a similar vision of bringing new things to the scene that may be lacking such as a platform for these creators to get the recognition they have more than earned. The way this group of artists unite is a driving force unseen before and MYOPIC SOUNDS doesn’t plan on slowing that down anytime soon. Today we have the pleasure of premiering their latest release ‘FIND THIS’ by Cristiaan Broderick, aka RYNS. “This track came together pretty fast, faster than usual for me at least. I’ve been really inspired by bouncy, danceable bass music lately so I wanted to put my spin on it and make something fun,” says Broderick in regard to the creation process. ‘FIND THIS’ does an incredible job at building on itself and expanding inner elements. Letters are needed to make words, words are needed to make sentences, sentences to make paragraphs and paragraphs to create stories. RYNS does exactly this as you can hear the track structure elaborate on sounds heard in the beginning. “After the track took shape and the structure was laid out I started messing with that ‘damn son’ vocal sample…I thought it would be fun to kind of ‘reclaim’ that sample and re-imagine it in a new way with what’s been going on in bass music over the last couple of years,” RYNS explains.

Continuing to be advocates of the underground, Myopic Sounds is back with a brand new track, ‘In My Cup’, a collaborative effort between PWDR and TaDa. PWDR currently has two originals listed on his SoundCloud profile with less than 150 followers. TaDa is not much further ahead, also having just a few tracks available to listen on his profile with a little over 300 followers. Demonstrating that stats and numbers do not equate to quality, ‘In My Cup’ is fabricated expertly, weaving modern trap sounds in with exquisite sound design. The mastering of this track alone speaks highly as everything hits as hard as possible while still being distinguished. The second drop returns with a vengeance and ramps up the energy. After hearing this track for the first time, I immediately had to run through for a second listen, and I don’t doubt that you will find yourself doing the same. Runnit and Litty McGuire’s wonky banger ‘LETIGO‘ is a perfect introduction to the compilation, giving listeners a high energy track to fully let themselves go. GURF and ZCR’s ‘FIGHT’ is an eerie step into a dark dimension that delivers a knockout punch. ‘GAMMA’ by XAVIER and U.O.ME overload their systems and pour out a thick bass banger that is sure to rock any speaker. RAFTYR and SIXPATHS’ ‘PULL UP’ is a wiggly bass track that weaves through immense sound design. Finally, jordnmoody and sømething craft an absolutely out of this world banger on, ‘FIU’, with hypnotizing soundscapes and an intoxicating energy, it’s one of the standouts on the compilation.

‘LETIGO’ is the first taste of 5 track All Star Compilation which is set to see some of the finest bass artists from the east and west coasts colliding. We had to connect with Gurf & Runnit to get a bit more insight into how this all came together. “We noticed Myopic Sounds a few months back because they released their debut compilation just around the same time we did ours. We kept joking that they were “west coast Partica” because they were into that wonky weird trap sound that we were going for! Between that and their stellar visual branding, we felt like it was a no brainer to work with them. We wanted to capitalize on the duality between us, and since summer was upon us, we had this hilarious idea to frame the whole comp like a classic summer baseball tournament. We wanted to do something unique but still thematic, so we lined up the guys in two “teams” and made each member collab with somebody on the opposite team. Forcing everybody to collaborate ended up feeling way more organic then we could have imagined and we’re very proud of that,” Partica’s Gurf  & Runnit explain. When asked about how the two linked up, CAPTSIS states “KOZ reached out to me a few months before I started MYOPIC SOUNDS and we were always stoked off each others work! After having him on our first MYOPIC tape he sent me a project for me to jump on it as a collab and that’s how ‘MONARCH’ kicked off.” He also adds that “this collab was the kind that took awhile to get done but we are both very stoked on the outcome! We were able to mesh our ideas throughout the entire track, but still have each of our own style for the drops! The first drop more of my style and direction in it while KOZ went in on the second drop!”

‘MONARCH’ is exactly as CAPTSIS describes: the conglomeration of two talented producers coming together to deliver an experimental banger. A brief yet heroic introduction catapults listeners into an eccentric trap-oriented drop, before a short bridge leads listeners into gritty, metallic insanity. The second half of the track only furthers this scintillating wonky theme, capping off the beast with as much intensity as the beginning.

“I like producing heavy bass music but I also make chill beats for myself and my friends to listen to. I find when I’m making bass music I tend to overthink everything so I’ll switch and make a chill beat and just vibe out. This track was originally supposed to be a halftime DnB track but I deleted everything except the drums and just started playing around with different synths and vocal samples,” Dekuu tells us about his latest. “I don’t just want to make one type of music so I’ll probably keep switching it up and exploring going into the future,” he adds.

Out now on Myopic Sounds, ‘SKI MASK WAY’ is exactly as Dekuu depicts it to be. Using ambient sounds to create an ethereal soundscape, the track is a lo-fi jam perfect for vibing out with friends. The first half of the song is pure instrumental bliss, as Dekuu finds the perfect balance between hip-hop beats and electronic synths to capture any listener’s attention. Halfway through, Biggie vocals from ‘Flava In Ya Ear’ chime in over top of the crisp beat to add another element of depth. “Biggie is my favorite rapper of all time and his era of rap was the first music I dived into when I was younger,” Dekuu states about his early inspirations. “Plus, Biggie’s voice sounds good on anything.” We couldn’t agree more, and ‘SKI MASK WAY’ is a great example. While they came together late last year, today marks their full out launch with their debut mixtape The Awakening. The project features familiar names in CAPTSIS, IANY, MIDNGHT, Jordnmoody & ZCR, plus a ton of fresh faces. As for how it all came together, “All of the track selection came together organically which is awesome. We started as a small core group of artists who wanted to start something new and fresh. From there some artists  reached out to us and vice versa and we just invited them to this discord and built a small little community. That’s what I think separates this compilation from others is that all the people involved support each other one way or another,” CAPTSIS explains. The songs fit together nicely while all possessing their own unique facets. The Awakening is weird, bass-heavy and exciting at every turn.

What’s next on the horizon for MYOPIC SOUNDS? Captsis tell us, “A lot of dope stuff. Our main focus now is to create a new monthly event in LA that is a true representation of the underground bass music scene. Along with that we have more music ranging from singles and EPs that we are excited about.”We’ll certainly be keeping our eyes and ears out for more. For now, we’ll be enjoying The Awakening.
