There’s not a more compelling story than when Tinaturnup, the supposed 17-year old club prodigy from Denmark was revealed to be the brainchild of DJ Sliink and Nadus, two of the pioneers of Jersey Club. Nadus even expressed that using the Tinaturnup moniker was when he received the most recognition and outreach. This was 7 years ago. We have to do better.

I still never got more music work offers than that two weeks of emails. Everyone wanted to toss us coin and work when they thought two niggas from Newark were a white chick from Denmark. https://t.co/hHapSNNId2

— Nadus (@Nadus) June 3, 2020

While the story came to the forefront again in the peak of the Black Lives Matter movement back in June 2020, the secret had already been out since at least 2016. The two things we can learn from this? 1) Anonymity does work as marketing. And 2) Racism is still rampant in the music industry.

While we’re always working towards a more progressive and inclusive community, we have to acknowledge this as proof: If you’re white in EDM, it’s easier for you to succeed. Honestly, it feels weird that the first time we’re posting about either DJ Sliink and Nadus in years is because of Tinaturnup. But we thought this story was worthwhile sharing.

If i ghost produced for some random dude in EU… yall would flock… we proved it once with Tina Turntup..

— Nadus (@Nadus) November 1, 2016

On a lighter note, the music “Tinaturnup” made banged. It was hard for me to choose a bootleg for #tbt‘s first edition of the year, but I couldn’t pass on babygirl Aaliyah. This ‘Rock The Boat’ remix flaunts Jersey Club’s signature bed squeaks, bouncey drums, and syncopated claps to make this R&B classic even sexier. We didn’t even know that was possible.

To kick off 2016 with a bang, the label has unleashed a massive compilation. The mass of talent and diversity on this project is insane. Skrillex drops 3 tracks, Ghastly & Getter team up, josh pan & X&G blow our minds and Dj Sliink & Nadus prove Jersey club is alive and well. The most surprising standout for me has to be Louis The Child’s ‘From Here’. The emotion and originality is nothing short of incredible. The project also features new music from Mija, Wiwek, San Holo x Yellow Claw, Bixel Boys, Alvin Risk + more! If you haven’t grasped it yet, this is a must listen. Stream below and grab the project on iTunes.

As 2014 comes to a close, it’s time to reflect on a stellar musical year.To do so, we’ve rounded up the top 50 songs of the year. In developing this list we weighed each track against the following criteria: overall song quality, impact and popularity, and support (blogs, charts, DJs, etc.). We are counting down 10 tracks per day. Today we continue our list with 30-21. Be sure let us know your thoughts on our picks and the top 20 is coming up!

30. J. Cole – Fire Squad

2014 was a quiet year for J. Cole in terms of releases. That is until he decided to set the game on fire and announce an album with only 3 weeks notice. When the album leaked a week prior to its release, one track had everyone talking. ‘Fire Squad’ has J. Cole going off spitting raw bars with quotables on quotables. He kicks the verse off with “Ain’t a way around it no more, I am the greatest, a lotta niggas sat on the throne, I am the latest.” A statement that’s hard to dispute considering Cole’s impressive catalog. But it’s not those bars that had people buzzing. It was the final verse where addresses the white appropriation of hip-hop. “Same thing that my nigga Elvis did with Rock n Roll, Justin Timberlake, Eminem, and then Macklemore, while silly niggas argue over who gone snatch the crown, look around my nigga white people have snatched the sound, this year I’ll prolly go to the awards dappered down, watch Iggy win a Grammy as I try to crack a smile, I’m just playin’, but all good jokes contain true shit, Same rope you climb up on, they’ll hang you with.” The verse is quite blunt but is hard to dispute considering Macklemore’s Grammy win over Kendrick and Iggy beating Drake at the AMAs. All hype aside, this is one of the rawest rap tracks of 2014 and makes Cole’s claim as king hard to dispute.

29. P. Reign – DnF (feat. Drake and Future)

It’s been a long time coming for P Reign. The Toronto native who has been a long time friend of another (but much larger) Toronto native, finally released his Dear America mixtape and EP this year. Track number 29 of the Top 50 Songs of 2014 is the lead single that comes off the Dear America EP entitled ‘DnF’ which we later learn stands for “drunk and fuck”. This joint is P Reign’s first chart topper and club banger. Since its release it has been all over the radio and has gotten major DJ support in the clubs. Both P Reign and Drizzy offer confident and clever bars while Future offers some support in the hook. It also went on to be remixed by eSenTRIK. Hard to argue its dominance in the latter half of 2014.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/164639676″ params=”color=166ced&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

28. Dougie F & DJ Fire – Back Up On It (Jasmine)

Diplo-backed Dougie F & DJ Fire became evangelists of Jersey Club. Dropping by at Sway in the Morning, Hot 97, and 106 and Park with ‘Back Up on It (Jasmine),’ Jersey permeated the mainstream media’s air waves. It’s great to see the genre getting the attention it deserves and it’s even better to see it’s a real Jersey sound, not something watered down for mass consumption.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/165796687″ params=”color=0066cc&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

27. Sable – Mt. Moon

Sable is regularly known for his upbeat and cheery Future Bass tunes. So what happens when he mixes things up and decides to make some disgusting dungeon bass? The answer is ‘Mt. Moon’, a menacing bass epic that hits like a sawed off ray gun blast from point blank. There were a number of stellar tracks in this vein, but no one did it as well as Sable.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/162071316″ params=”color=0066cc&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

26. TroyBoi – Don’t Be Judging

TroyBoi has a handful of tracks that we debated putting on this list (‘Medusa Days’, ‘2 On Remix’). But in the end one stood out. Maybe it’s the MJ samples, maybe it’s the eerie and thematic intro. Maybe it’s the mind rattling drop that is like nothing you’ve ever experienced. Or maybe, just maybe it’s the songs’ artwork which features the producer rocking a bedazzled silver glove. Actually, it’s a combination of all these factors. In the end, few tracks were as inventive and original as ‘Don’t Be Judging’.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/144692836″ params=”color=0066cc&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

25. Nadus – Nxwxrk

Jersey! Brick City Bandit and Newark native Nadus dropped the jersey anthem of 2014. The track features phenomenal progression; opening with majestic piano work. Nadus slowly brings in each of the songs elements, taking his time to build something truly masterful. With support from RL Grime (via his edit) the track’s reach increased exponentially and became a staple amongst DJs for a good part of the year. Though the edit is awesome, it’s Nadus’ original that really deserves the respect.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/151492787″ params=”color=0066cc&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

24. Skrillex – Coast is Clear (Feat. Chance the Rapper)

Skrillex ‘Recess’ is jam packed with a wide variety of impactful and impressive music (‘Stranger’, ‘Dirty Vibe’). Easily one of the most talked about and interesting songs is ‘Coast is Clear’. When it was announced that Skrillex and Chance would be connecting for a track, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but it definitely wasn’t this. That said, I don’t think anyone was disappointed. Combining laid back piano work with DnB drums, heavy bass and Chance’s one-of-a-kind style, this track is telling of what makes both artists so great; their ability to let creativity overcome all.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/140048549″ params=”color=0066cc&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

23. Kendrick Lamar – i

Ever since good kid, m.A.A.d. city, the world waited for Kendrick to release some new solo music. With no set release date on his sophomore effort, K Dot dropped his ultimate feel good joint and it caught fire almost immediately. Fans of Kendrick that wanted to hear another hard barred rap track were in for a surprise and though some naysayers claimed he sold out, this track is still very true to who Kendrick Lamar is as an artist. Since dropping ‘i’, Kendrick has been all over radio and festivals performing his new hit. Not only has this song created massive buzz over the web it has also been able to share a message of self-love and the importance of believing in yourself. In almost every one of his recent interviews, Kendrick shared his interactions with fans and what he wanted to create for the people who felt they were alone in their daily struggle. Considering the combination of a great message, well delivered lyrics and undeniable feel good sound, it’s safe to say Kendrick Lamar’s ‘i’ deserve its spot on our Top 50.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/172977809″ params=”color=166ced&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

22. Quest – Automatic

After years of grinding on the mixtape scene, Quest finally found his mark in 2014, dropping one of the best projects of the year in Searching Sylvan. Picking just one track off the album was tough, but ‘Automatic’ is the perfect selection that exemplifies what the album is about while strongly standing on it’s own. From the jump Quest comes out swinging with battle raps then precedes to get personal giving listeners a piece of his struggle. With a number of flow changes and hard hitting production this is a clear standout. As the beat changes just past the midway point as does the mood and Quest’s delivery. It’s a more introspective feel with Quest addressing his dreams, procrastination and dealing with hate. “I got plans to become a star, make a fortune and do it large, 20 cars inside my garage (as soon as Dragon Ball Z goes off!), Got a fascination with procrastination, no taking charge, Got to mention my love for hate, guess thats why I lurk on these blogs.” The versatility and storytelling displayed in this prove why Quest is one of the best breakout rappers of the year. But don’t worry we won’t compare him to these new rappers.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/160122410″ params=”color=0066cc&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

21. Logic – Nikki

One of the biggest standouts from one of the best albums of the year, ‘Nikki’ is nothing short of amazing. The track is positioned as a love song personifying his greatest addiction. Logic drops subtle (“I love it when you’re fresh, I love it when I take your top off and we share the same breath”) and not so subtle hints as to what track is about (“You the only girl I need I gotta have you back, even though you turn my lungs black.”) The impressive double entendres and wordplay are reminiscent of legends who have gone in similar directions. Most notably Jay Z’s ‘I Know’ and Common’s classic ‘I Used to Love Her’. When a track garners comparisons to some of the greatest ever, it’s no surprise that it ends up on this list.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/173098375″ params=”color=0066cc&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Nick Hook has had a pretty impressive 2014. Earlier this year he went Searching for Sound with Baauer, connected with Hudson Mohawke and S-Type to produce The Rap Monument and produced the smash ‘Old English’. Closing the year off strong, the NY producer connected with Dj Sliink, Nadus, Bodega Bamz and Crystal Caines (yes, you read that correctly). ‘Going Back 2’ is a unique blend of inventive sounds and contrasting styles. The track opens with a bouncy futuristic intro, after some claps Bamz begins flowing smooth. Just as you begin to get comfortable, things get HEAVY. The track drifts between wavy and turnt, for a sound that is absolutely incredible. The vocals from Crystal Caines add a level of sexy that makes this even more enjoyable. The track comes off Nick Hook’s Collage v.1 which drops December 16th. You can pre-order it on iTunes & BandCamp. Stream below and be sure to check out the video ‘I wish I could be in the NBA’ for more info on the track.

Making this list wasn’t easy. Although there are probably hundreds of remixes out there, you have to weed your way through twice the amount of covers and reposts of his originals to find them. Which bring us to the reason we made this list: Drake is arguably the most popular and influential rapper today. Whether it’s a new artist he has signed, his role as Ambassador to Toronto’s NBA team, or his OVO Festival in Toronto, it’s hard to go a day without hearing his name. No wonder there are so many remixes out there.

After a week of digging through SoundCloud, we’ve compiled our favourite Drizzy reworks into one, album-like playlist. We’ve got every genre here, from Deep House, to Trap, to Jersey club. We go from 0 to 100 and then back again. Enjoy.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/playlists/62386304″ params=”auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”450″ iframe=”true” /]

This Loston Remix of ‘November 18th’ is no longer on SoundCloud so it couldn’t be included in the playlist but it is simply too good to leave out. Listen below.

Jersey Club has been making some serious waves in the past year and has quickly become one of our favorite genres at FUXWITHIT. Though it’s been around for over a decade, it has just recently garnered worldwide attention. If you’ve listen to our Satin Sheets x Silk Beats playlists you should be quite familiar. If not, this the perfect way to get acquainted. We’ve listed 6 of our favorite Jersey Club producers below and we feel there’s no better way to familiarize yourself with a musical genre than by listening to it. Some may take offense to us including so many producers from outside of New Jersey, but that’s fine let us know in the comments. Without further adieu let’s get into it.

Dj Sliink – Hailing from New Jersey, the self proclaimed “Jersey Club King” has been instrumental in bringing Jersey Club music to a world wide audience. I originally came across Sliink on his collab with Flosstradamus – ‘Test Me’ and have been watching him closely ever since. Since then, Sliink has dropped some the biggest Jersey Club tracks to date. His collaboration with DJ Hoodboi & Trippy Turtle on the remix of August Alsina – ‘Sucka’ is the perfect track to introduce newcomers to the genre. His remix of Toni Romiti – Miss Me ( Ft. Dj Bake) shows a darker side of his production while still containing stunning vocals. The vocal chops, kicks and rap samples are all perfectly placed. Other notable tracks include: Le Youth – C O O L (DJ Sliink Remix), Wale – Bad (DjSliink Booty Bounce Remix), and Trey Songz – Na Na (DJ Sliink Remix). In addition to producing great music, Sliink is also a huge supporter of fellow artists; constantly re-posting and sharing Jersey Club tunes from other artists. Just take a scroll through his SoundCloud and see all the artists he has backed.

Follow Sliink on Twitter, Facebook and SoundCloud

Dj Hoodboi – The first of our unknown, masked and mysterious producers to make the list. DJ Hoodboi has made a huge name for himself remixing R&B tracks into Jersey Club bangers. With remixes of Sisqo, R. Kelly, Genuwine and August Alsina under his belt, Hooboi has proven his ability to make sexy tracks even sexier. He’s also done some pretty stellar remixes of rap tracks flipping Big Sean’s – ‘Marvin & Chardonnay’ with Trippy Turtle and Future’s – ‘Honest’ with Arnold. His biggest track to date is an official remix of Chromeo’s summer smash ‘Jealous’. Quite possibly the best remix of the track yet and easily one of my favorite tracks for enjoying the warm weather, this is a must listen.

Follow Hoodboi on Facebook, Twitter, and SoundCloud.

Trippy Turtle– Another mysterious character; Trippy Turtle is said to be an alias for another well known producer. Early speculation was that it was a side project of Cashmere Cat, but recent appearances of the two together have dispelled the rumors and also lead many to believe Trippy Turtle is actually fellow Norweigen Lido. Regardless of his identity the producers abilities are undebatable. His standout collaborations have already been noted above but he has a ton of stellar solo work. His remix of ‘Give It 2 U’ will have you signing Robin Thicke like it’s 2013. Other must listens include his flip of Twista’s – ‘Wetter’ (which does not contain Twista) and Trey Songz – ‘NaNa’. Much like his homie DJ Hoodboi, the Turle was recently recruited to do an offical remix for a big name artist (Ed Sheeran) and he did not disappoint. Check out ‘SING’ below.

Promnite – Promnite is another unknown alias who burst onto the scene with his debut album Love songs for what? which featured Jersey club and chill remixes of popular Rap & R&B. I recently purchased it off BandCamp and it was easily the best $1 I’ve spent in a long time. Stand out tracks like ‘She Get It From Her Mama’ and ‘4:34’ demonstrate why he deserves a spot on this list. His sensual remix of R. Kelly – Legs Shakin and Denzel Curry – THREATZ [Promnite Edition] (though the latter is not Jersey Club) further prove why Promnite is one of the hottest producers out right now.

Follow Promnite on Facebook, Twitter, and SoundCloud.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/116259605″ params=”color=0066cc&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_artwork=true&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Vices – What do two white dudes from Orlando, Florida know about making Jersey Club music? A lot, apparently. The duo known as Vices have dropped some of the best Jersey Club tracks of the past year. Most notably their collaboration with Jailo – ‘Loving You (Long Time)’ and solo effort ‘Wanna Luv U’ exemplify the elegant, melodic sound that is being infused into the genre. Their most recent collaboration with K1K0 – ‘C’mon Bae’ sees them flipping a Donna Summers disco record. It’s an infectiously sweet tune that you can’t help but enjoy. In addition, they’ve done killer remixes for Twista & Kanye West, Liz, Migos, SirOJ and many more. All this adds up to Vices being one of the best breakout production duos of the year.

Both tracks contain epic builds, majestic synth work and fuse Future Bass and Jersey club seamlessly. Outside of the EP, Nadus has dropped serious tracks including his trigger happy remix of Kanye West’s – ‘Send it Up’, ethereal rework of Drake’s – ‘Furthest Thing’, and the explicit but banging DJ Funk – Dat Ass (Nadus Remix).
