All good things must come to an end. With recent developments in dubstep and bass music in general, lines are being blurred, genres are forever evolving, and the need for separation between styles is no longer relevant. That being said, Never Say Die announced the termination of their Black Label imprint earlier this week, and while the news came as a shock to everyone, the reasoning behind it is extremely logical. Originally birthed to host heavier dubstep subgenres, the recent boom of future riddim and more melodic elements in dubstep has overshadowed the distinction between the main and sister labels.

Never Say Die tell us that they “will continue to shine a light on up-and-coming talents provided – as always – that the music is right. All the sounds and styles that Black Label represents will be supported by NSD as well.” Frankly, that is the most important part for us as Champions of the Underground, and for the scene as a whole.

Fittingly, Never Say Die: Black Label’s final track comes from Trampa, the artist who kicked off the madness way back in 2014. Through a looming soundscape, barking synths and low-pitched samples, ‘Sick Head’ is a piece that embodies the essence of Black Label, giving the imprint a proper send-off. As an artist who has remained at the helm of heavy dubstep for years, Trampa demonstrates exactly why he’s stayed at the top in ‘Sick Head,’ delivering a flow that is sure to send festival crowds ablaze upon their return.

We’d like to extend a massive thank you to Never Say Die: Black Label for what they have done for the scene, and we’re excited for what the future holds for Never Say Die. Don’t miss the emphatic ‘Sick Head’ as well as the label’s official statement on the matter below.

When it comes to the current immensely saturated dubstep scene, it can become far too easy to blend into the background due to an already staggering range of sounds and styles permeating the culture. However, there are several swiftly rising audio tastemakers that are boldly straying from the fold. One such harmonic hero that boldly strays from the fold is Canada’s Jordan Komarniski, also known by his Jiqui production alias. Utilizing an overtly gritty, yet sensationally clean production style that boils the brain like an egg on a Texas sidewalk in the summer, he’s curated a sound that’s garnered immense amounts of attention as of late. Last year, fans were blessed with his borderline maniacal flip of ‘Boss‘, which seemed to be rinsed by everyone and their mom. He also blessed the world with his first release on Never Say Die Black Label with his Shadow Dance EP, which was met with critical acclaim from the far corners of the community. Now, he’s back with his 2nd EP release through Black Label with his Alchemist EP, and we’re happy to say we’ve had the great opportunity of premiering ‘Close To U’ from it for your listening pleasure right here on FUXWITHIT.

This tune is one of my favorites I’ve written, I wanted something to contrast the other darker tracks on the EP. I personally love contrasting melodic intros with heavier drops, and while I don’t feel like writing melodic oriented music is my strong suit, I’m really happy with how this track and some of my newer stuff has been coming out. I’m constantly trying to evolve my sound and progress forward as an artist and this whole EP is me trying to embody that. I have a big mix of experimental and heavy music on the way that I’m super stoked about. – Jiqui

Opening up with tranquil, soothing vocals that make stress drift off your body like steam in a sauna, you’re left in a state of blissful serenity, completely unaware of the carnage that’s about to commence. Quickly coming out of your lulled stupor, you’re greeted with an accelerating build before the jet engines ignite and you’re jettisoned straight to the moon. All gas no brakes, ‘Close To U’ is primed off of only the finest diesel, with the first drop demolishing all semblance of human life in the vicinity. Wheeling-and-dealing so much grime you’ll need an hour-long shower to scrub off the filth, Jiqui really decided to play no games and take no prisoners. The latter drop is even more brutal, sounding reminiscent of a futuristic cybernetic landscape ravaged by the AI technological advancements that have enslaved the populous. All hope is lost, machines are king, the only solid truth for humanity is pain and desolation. Is Jiqui working with the mechanized menace? Only one way to find out. Stream ‘Close To U’ for yourself below!

Bassline on Never Say Die: Black Label? Fans of the imprint and of Akeos, Hukae and Claybrook have likely seen that question everywhere on social media over the last week, and we are simply here to confirm this rumour. An unlikely adventure from three solid forces in the bass scene, ‘Skeng’ eliminates all notion of what one should expect from a Never Say Die: Black Label release, and opens endless doors as to what the future may hold.

Teased for months in sets from all three artists as well as many others, ‘Skeng’ is aptly titled considering its British origins, but the undeniable influence from the North American bass scene makes it a well-rounded piece sure to have a global impact. Boasting a tempo on the higher end of the bassline spectrum, ‘Skeng’ wastes no time getting into the thick of things, before the triumphant triumvirate unleash a highly-energetic display of crisp sound design without ever loosing the track’s seamless groove.

With his first single of 2021, Oddprophet taps joegarratt for a stunning vocal-driven dubstep brute. As an artist who has been imploring his more melodic side while still unleashing pounding pieces, Oddprophet combines these two elements to a tee once more in ‘Nice & Good,’ delivering a well-rounded single that’s uplifting yet menacing. joegarratt’s vocals provide a welcoming introduction to the tune, as Oddprophet layers them nicely overtop a crisp layer of urgency-inducing soundscapes. Brief interludes bring listeners to the drops which are quintessential from the skilled producer, boasting a treacherous tear-out style that hits hard and deep.

Leotrix has been an undeniable leader in the bass scene over the last couple of years, consistently unleashing boundary-pushing content that defies genres and expectations. Looking to kick off 2021 in high gear and following up on his Hive and Gremlin EPs, the skilled audiophile returns to Never Say Die: Black Label with his third full-length project on the imprint, aptly titled Round III. From a surprise collaboration with Aweminus to three solo works that are equally impressive, Round III is a clear showcase of Leotrix’s ever-evolving abilities, and today we have the extreme pleasure of premiering ‘Endless Pain’ from the Sydney-based talent ahead of the project’s full release.

‘Endless Pain’ first appeared on my radar around a month ago when it snuck its way into the Hukae b2b Jub set, and I immediately added it to my list of unreleased material that needed identification as soon as possible. Thankfully, the wait wasn’t too long. ‘Endless Pain’ is one of those tunes that hits all the right notes, combining gritty bass and an oddly danceable rhythm that will surely make it a live stream favourite. The main notes are screechy yet sharp, with snappy percussion giving the drop sections an extra bounce. The use of call-and-response throughout ‘Endless Pain’ is ingenious, as Leotrix creates a pleasing contrast over a wide range of frequencies that are sure to tickle any bass lover’s fancy.

Don’t miss ‘Endless Pain’ below and stay tuned for Round III, out tomorrow.

What better way for Never Say Die: Black Label to kick off the new year than with a project from one of the most promising talents in the dubstep scene. At only fifteen years of age, Cripplingg has been making waves over the last year, from delivering one of the best tracks in Round Table Reinforcements Vol. 1, to a standout track in Halcyon’s debut Halcyon Sounds Vol. 1. As a promising force destined to lead the new future riddim movement while simultaneously expanding his horizons in the bass realm, the future looks bright for Cripplingg as he’s set to catapult himself into 2021 with his debut EP, SUCKS.

Ahead of the project’s release, we have the pleasure of premiering ‘Melodic Mirror’ from the four-track ensemble. “On ‘Melodic Mirror,’ I wanted to make a mad melody, and thus the name came up. I really like both riddim and the melodic elements of dubstep and riddim. So, I wanted to showcase both my artistic sides and show some diversity in this track!” Cripplingg states about his latest piece.

Diversity is a great word to describe ‘Melodic Mirror.’ The introduction is brief yet draws intrigue with its underlying flow and repeated notes. As the drop quickly hits, this rhythmic flow is amplified to new heights, keeping an uplifting tone while hitting with the perfect amount of grit. A snappy melody and crisp percussion drive the energy of the track further, making ‘Melodic Mirror’ a track sure to be on repeat for hours on end. Don’t miss it below and stay tuned for more from Cripplingg soon.

As avid supporters of Akeos since their early releases, it’s difficult to come up with words that haven’t been said to praise their continuous innovation through the wide realm of bass music. Every new track is a step forward for the Pennsylvania-based artist, and that’s saying a lot given the extraordinary quantity of material coming out on a regular basis. Just when we thought the list of accolades from the talented producer would start to plateau, Akeos is now back with perhaps their biggest accomplishment to date: curating the third installment of Never Say Die: Black Label‘s Black Ops XL compilation – a feat only accomplished by Aweminus and Blankface & SVGMAZE in the past.

With the impressive 45-minute mix hitting SoundCloud last week, a ton of hype was created surrounding the contributors to the compilation, with a few individual tracks appearing on the platform this week ahead of the project’s full release on Friday. Today, we have the extreme honour of premiering ‘Voltage Disk,’ a massive collaboration between the Akeos and JOOL. The latter has also been having himself quite the year, with releases on Never Say Die: Black Label, Circus Records and Odio Records, as well as collaborations with Hukae, Megalodon and WHALES to name a few, thus this joining of forces is not entirely out of the blue.

‘Voltage Disk’ is a menacing combination of Akeos and JOOL’s sounds. The introduction is quintessential Akeos, with a frantic, unnerving essence created in its early seconds. An insurmountable tension leads listeners to the drops that are equally as chaotic as they are mechanical and meticulous in their construction. A true display of grueling sound design, ‘Voltage Disk’ is among the standouts from Black Ops XL III, so stick around for the second half of the track to be further impressed by Akeos and JOOL.

There’s really no room for debate when it comes to the massive amount of influence UK dubstep hero Badklaat has had on the scene for almost half a decade now. Attaining god-like status in 2015 from the release of his anthem banger ‘Head Crush‘ (which is still spun regularly in sets even to this day), he’s viciously contorted the spines of millions, a veritable chiropractor’s wet dream. Placing heavy emphasis on brutal, demonic sound design and readily palpable carnal energy, he’s found a welcome home among the headbanger crowd. With malicious release after release, he’s shown no signs of slowing down, further pressing his foot aggressively against the gas. Now, he’s back with his first EP release in 4 years in the form of Blunt Force, a wildly diverse 4-track affair of epic proportions, and we’ve had the great pleasure of premiering ‘MK5 Missile’ from it right here on FUXWITHIT.

Trading gritty, bone-shattering noise that feels reminiscent of something the grim reaper would whip-up in his own studio for a much more regimented, military-esque approach, Badklaat has catapulted himself squarely into the future. Maniacal heaviness greets squeaky-clean overall production, culminating in an end result that’s a treat on the ears, and rocket fuel for the soul. Impeccably sprinkled vocal samples, exceptional fills, and captivating flow meld into a ridiculously addicting final product. After a long hiatus, it’s a fantastic feeling to have a fresh body of work from one of the UK’s finest dub dealers, and especially one of this quality. A sure-fire can’t-miss for those that want to relieve some aggression, check out ‘MK5 Missile’ for yourself below!

The last two weeks have been a roller coaster of emotions for Hukae fans, and surely even more so for the artist himself. From posting a worrying message on Twitter less than two weeks ago (and thankfully appearing well post-incident), to announcing his third EP of the calendar year, Hukae has kept his followers on their toes throughout 2020. Storming onto the scene with the ingenious Dirty Talk EP, the producer has since demonstrated that his creativity and proclivity for creating gems is not a one-off, consistently pushing the boundaries of bass with every new release.

With the Future EP set to hit streaming platforms via Never Say Die: Black Label on Friday, Hukae continues to showcase this sonic prowess, delivering four monstrous beasts that could individually set crowds ablaze. Ahead of the project’s full release, we have the honour of premiering ‘Doozy,’ one of the producer’s most impressive tunes to date.

As the introductory track to his 2020 Showcase, ‘Doozy’ is one many have been awaiting, and the full version does not disappoint. The piece is a flex of the gnarly flow that Hukae has mastered, as the artist is able to create yet another five-minute long brute that never grows old or repetitive. The introduction is captivating, the drops are menacing, and the attention to detail is meticulous. From the rattling top layers to the grungy sub-bass, Hukae has once again outdone himself, creating a soundscape capable of brutally hitting listeners in their core, while somehow making it danceable and fun.

Here’s to a speedy recovery for Hukae, and to a wicked project ahead. Don’t miss ‘Doozy’ below.

Aweminus‘ DubHub mix from December 2019 was a personal favourite from the day it came out until a good six months after its release. Showcasing a diversity of unreleased material, the mix set the stage for the epic year that the Las Vegas-based producer has had, but none could have predicted the true onslaught of material that was coming our way. It seemed that almost monthly, and even weekly, Aweminus has been releasing some of his most highly-awaited material, easily earning him the 2020 dubstep crown. From a handful of singles on Never Say Die: Black Label, to an EP on the newly-conceived Halcyon label, to a single released just last week, Aweminus has taken this year with a firm grasp and doesn’t appear to be letting up anytime soon.

Up next from the bass maestro is a four-track beast of a project on Never Say Die: Black Label titled the UGHH EP. Featuring more IDs from the aforementioned mix as well as a couple of new brain-melters, it’s safe to say that Aweminus is in a league of his own. Ahead of its release on October 28th (and just in time for Halloween), we have the extreme pleasure of premiering ‘Dead Horse (Just A Beat)’ today.

As eclectic as its title, ‘Dead Horse (Just A Beat)’ is a short but sweet core-shattering tune that’s quick to the punch and doesn’t stop until it closes. A snappy vocal sample in the brief introduction paves the way for the grungy madness that follows, with Aweminus innovating in the realm of riddim as he’s done so exquisitely in the past. The drops are a mean, menacing display of sound design mastery, as each bar hits harder than the last. The ideas aren’t overly complex and Aweminus doesn’t try to do too much, but the simplicity paired with the crisp execution make ‘Dead Horse (Just A Beat)’ a true standout from his insanely impressive repertoire. Don’t miss it below.
