For years, Good Society‘s power has touched many’s hearts throughout the underground. From a beautiful roster of artists to its own purpose and vision, it’s a label you’ll always find yourself coming back to. Waiting with pure excitement to hear what’s next or who they’re lending the spotlight to. Their whimsical releases from absolute legends as well as their gorgeous artworks have shaped their name into a remarkable staple for music. And with Good Society Vol. 3, they’re pushing the future beat genre even further than ever. Making you fall in love with the genre as well as the artists featured all over again. Taking you back to the roots while showcasing the future.

Bringing organic soul and grooves to the scene, these compilations have pushed sonic boundaries while tendering to the broken and lost. Creating a space you’ll always feel welcome in. The calm and peaceful compositions within will only fill your aura with purpose and happiness. And what a stacked lineup they got this year! Heavy hitters such as laxcity, DECAP, oshi, capshun, Chromonicci, whereisalex, and more have all molded individual stories through sound. Showcasing their strongest techniques while honoring the label with pure style.

“I curated this project to affirm the belonging of hip-hop & electronic music in a single space. Otherwise known as future beats, this project brings together soulful and jazzy boom bap production riddled with soulful rap vocals and electronic sound design. The subgenre was greatly inspired and developed by the likes of Flying Lotus, Mr. Carmack, and quite a few of the artists featured on this project including Oshi, Lophiile, DECAP, whereisalex, & ROMderful. It was no easy undertaking bringing together these staples of the producer world, but over the past year, I’ve been lucky enough to have everyone place their faith in me. After over two years since the last issue, Good Society Volume 3 is our version of the ultimate genre fluid hip-hop album.” – Josh Yamini

Good Society Vol. 3 is an absolute pleasure to experience from beginning to end. The twelve track journey is filled with ear candy and inspiring characteristics. From moments of absolute clarity, to unreal techniques from the artists themselves, it’s a gift that keeps on giving. The drums, melodies and overall arrangements shines on a whole new level. Making you feel completely relaxed and content with your mindset. From laxcity’s bubbly sound design and rhythms, to oshi’s elegant vocals complimenting his hard hitting production, these artists truly went all out and created life long art to last throughout the ages. Representing history as well as giving their audience a taste for what’s to come on the horizon. Bringing warm light among the darkness. So make sure to show your support by streaming Good Society Vol. 3 everywhere via Good Society!

But today, in 2021 we’re beyond excited to be able to shed some light on one of our favorite show announcements in years. Our good friends from Good Society (pun absolutely intended) planned a party in LA on August 7th, and will be hosting the first set in two years from the legendary producer Oshi. Thought that was cool? Wait until you see the rest of the lineup.

Saturday, August 7th at Catch One in LA, traps arms will once again be activated. Check-in after the event to hear our thoughts and also our conversations with Josh Yamini, founder of Good Society, and many of the artists on the lineup!

One of SoundCloud’s beatmaking all-stars put forth his magnum opus on Bandcamp yesterday. TEK.LUN‘s album, aptly titled The Oppression Olympics, explores imaginative storytelling techniques (comparable to Carmack’s Rekindling EP) that employ music as a vehicle to deliver messaging that can’t be completely captured in mere words or colorful drum loops. The spectacular project draws from raw samples of the George Floyd protests, free-thinkers, and traditional soulful vocals that pay homage to the cultural roots of popular music. TEK.LUN intelligently weaves this collection of sounds through a brilliant exhibition of his unmistakable production style, pushing the status quo for both genre and emotional experience in the same forward-thinking project.

[bandcamp width=400 height=300 album=124765922 size=large bgcol=181a1b linkcol=056cc4 artwork=small]

Whether it’s the album’s unattainable swing, soul stirring keys, harrowing orchestrations or demonstrative arrangements, The Oppression Olympics defies conventional methods of social activism. Best observed in tracks like ‘Required Chaos II’, ‘U BEN LIED 2 + Never Know (Feat. Varth)’ and ‘Y’all Need to Listen (QUIT YOUR JOB!)’, the project speaks to reality on multiple levels. It whispers the sentiments of racial division, solicits emotional awareness, and scores the intolerance of the modern political climate through mature cognizance. It also fucking slaps, and challenges you entertain new kinds of multi-dimensional thinking.

The project was released on Juneteenth, a celebration of the overdue emancipation of slaves, alongside the POWER BLACK compilation featuring the dexterity of acclaimed black beatmakers including DEFFIE, KAELIN ELLIS, whereisalex, Oshi, jammvis, eu-IV, Kilamanzego and TEK.LUN himself. These creators have dedicated all profits from the sales of both projects towards the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and other organizations supporting the movement. The Oppression Olympics can only be understood through experience, so I’ll leave you with TEK.LUN’s own words about the album and some of my own encouragement: open your mind, your heart, your wallet, and explore ways to help guide the world into a better future for all.

The Oppression Olympics is an instrumental album centered around the divides within the Black community that keep the diaspora from unifying in its totality. Our Black voices are reaching parts of the globe they have never reached before and I could not think of a better time to share this than on Juneteenth, 2020.

I began working on this “idea” back in 2016, inspired by the Audre Lorde poem “There is No Hierarchy of Oppression.” I will again go broke donating a majority of the proceeds from this to various organizations geared toward mental health for black women + a few other foundations I’m currently verifying. Each song has a purpose and I hope you guys enjoy. Thanks for listening!

Love ya
– TEK.LUN

Remixing a track of this magnitude is no easy feat, but Ekali found a few producers that are more than up to the task. The official remix pack features 3 collaborative reworks. Kicking things off is Skrillex and Ronny J’s rendition. This one stays truest to the original, perfectly balancing Denzel’s vocals with some even more intense energy. I didn’t think it was possible, but this remix is even harder and darker than the OG. sober rob & oshi completely flip the vibe with their take. The beat and backdrop is smooth and elegant. It feels like riding though Central Park in a horse drawn carriage on the first snowfall of the season. But that’s just the beat. The aggressive in your face lyrics and delivery from Denzel are still there providing a stark juxtaposition that somehow works so well. Rounding things out comes X&G and josh pan’s flip. As expected it’s the wildest and weirdest of the bunch. What start out tranquil and vibe-laden goes completely off the deep end. One minute they’re hitting you with club inspired vocal chops, the next you’re straight into the jungle with tribal drums beating harder than you heart when you’re standing next to a lion. Stream below.

Skrillex and Diplo are the two biggest acts in electronic music right now so it’s only fitting that their remix EP for ‘Mind’ is just as massive. Released today, the project features some of the best producers out right now including Wiwek, Gravez, Ekali, Oshi, Malaa, Basecamp & Happy Colours. Oh and don’t forget vocalist Mark Johns. The diversity of sounds across this project is a testament to each artists creativity. You can bump every versions back to back without getting bored or it feeling redundant and that says something. It’s too early to pick a favorite but every one is sounding awesome. The cherry on top of this release is the fact that it’s a free download. Happy Friday!
