The dynamic duo of Otxhello & Dilip blew us away with their self-titled debut project last year. Reminding fans of their brilliance comes ‘i have an idea?<“‘. A work of future beat mastery, the track takes listeners on an epic sonic voyage. Opening gentle and inviting, the song builds as the bass and drums begin to bring the bump. It knocks without being aggressive, still pensive and reflective. The melody pulls the spotlight before it swerves tactfully into grittier territory. If the first half is cruising among the clouds, the back half is drifting at top speed through a futuristic city as night turns to morning. The enchanted energy remains but the intensity is amped as things get trapped out. Just when you think you have ‘i have an idea?<“‘ figured out, it shapeshifts again, transitioning into a cinematic ride out into the sunset backed by a weeping guitar. late year’s latest is one hell of an idea and the execution is exceptional.

The track serves as the first single off their upcoming album 002 which is out next Friday (4/29).

Lucid Monday’s ‘LM025’ Is Expectedly Excellent

Monday’s have a lot going against them. The weekend is over, the return to reality is here and the next weekend is as far away as it can be. Most people hate Monday’s but one platform has been tirelessly working to change the perception from dreaded to anticipated. Every so often Lucid Monday appears on the scene with a compilation so stacked it’ll make you ready to skip over the weekend just to get your hands on it. LM025 proceeds to live up to the hype and high bar set by their previous releases. With 20 tracks from Chromonicci, Dilip & Otxhello, olswel, Dabow x L*o*J x LYNY, Louis Futon, Foolie $urfin, aedfx., Evil Needle, enuar & kas, and so many more, this is an absolute must-listen. The vibes are immaculate and the slaps are in abundance. From front to back it’s a showcase of the next wave of exceptional talent.

Seeing Dabow, L*o*J, & LYNY on a track is enough to get any trap heads heart-pumping. ‘OG’ does not disappoint illustrating why they are 3 of the best out. The vocal is hypnotic and the track takes you into another dimension. From classic trap to mind-bending sound design, brutish bounce, and even a hazy, dripped out finale, it never stagnates and just keeps getting better.

Chill bangers seem like an oxymoron until you experience them for yourself, and then they’re all you want to hear. Evil Needle’s ‘Lift Off’ presents the tranquility of chilling on a tropical beach with a banging drop to take you to the beach club before allowing you to fully unwind and enjoy the breeze. You can practically taste the Mojitos and smell the saltwater dripping off this one.

Just in time for ‘Springszn’ comes the aptly titled collab from enuar & kas. Light and airy, it’s the audio equivalent of that first summer-like day after a long winter. The synths warm your skin like sun rays. The steel drums wash away any worries and replace your stress with a feeling of elation. Smiles, slow hip-swaying and smashing replay are the only things on the menu for ‘Springszn.’

Dilip and Otxhello Link Up for ‘late year’

If you love hip-hop or future beat, you’re gonna dig this one. Dilip and Otxhello team up for a new project called late year. Yesterday, we wrote about their new release with Quickly Quickly, called ‘Yo.’ But just when we thought they were finished, they drop a new album.

You’re never going to get bored listening to late year. The album begins cinematically with ‘play!!-‘ making us feel like we’ve just entered Disney’s Magic Kingdom: Trap Edition. The track then diminuendos, giving a silky transition into ‘sinking @@!,’ which features FUXWITHIT fave, chromonicci. I was excited to hear some funk and jazz beats in ‘freeze ^√ ~’ and ‘make it count +={},’ but the pièce de résistance for me had to be ‘A-1$•¥.’ The song takes you for a ride, starting off with bluesy keys and going all gas, no breaks into a sample of E-40’s ‘My Shit Bang.’ What can I say… I’m a simple girl. If you play Bay Area music, I’m gonna get hyphy.

There’s no doubt Dilip and Otxhello have a talent for beat-making and joining forces for late year makes them all the more powerful. Their musicality and versatility, in even just a single track, is dumbfounding. And knowing the young producers are only 21 and 23 years old respectively, will really have you wondering, ‘what the fuck am I doing with my life?’ But enough about me, you have to listen to late year for yourself.
