There’s no doubt that Partica is a collective that snatched our hearts ever since they came onto the scene. When everyone said that trap was outdated, the supergroup and record label pushed on, giving a platform to some of the best producers in the underground bass scene. For Halloween, they did something super special and brought together 23 incredible artists for a mega collab called ‘FRANKENSTEIN’ and everyone in the scene should give it a listen.

I imagine it’s super difficult to bring TWENTY-THREE artists together to finish a track. They got Dabow, capshun, So Sus, and episcool, to name a few. Even label heads Gurf and Runnit make an appearance. Just run through the list yourself and see the undeniable talent. Dabow himself shares on Twitter, “partica got us all together to create the biggest collab I’ve been part of. and it bangs super hard. friday.” Partica really did that. And the, “it’s Patricia,” vocal sample towards the end was really playful and fun.

Onto my personal critique—and let’s preface this by me admitting that collaborations rarely do it for me, but I tried to keep my own bias aside and listen to ‘FRANKENSTEIN’ for what it is—and it’s a good track. However, while there are some great trap builds, for a song marketed as ‘trap 2’, its drops and most memorable moments are on the dubstep and experimental bass realm. The song that has some of the best trap producers right now, so that part was a bit disappointing for me. Additionally, for a Halloween track, the spooky factor could have been turned up a notch. The intro was haunting, but once it hit the 30-second mark, I forgot it was a Halloween track until the “Frankenstein” sample came in.

I also get that the real Frankenstein is having so many different producers bring a different part in to create a mammoth of a track, though. And overall, it’s cohesive and a great tune. The artwork is also flames. So listen to the Partica mega collab ‘FRANKENSTEIN’ for yourselves below and let us know your thoughts!

Pushing his sound further through the realm of unforgettably stanky grooves, this release tugs grubby synths through rhythmic pockets to create a bounce that defies the commanding title. The beat is baked with a swooning 808, pots-and-pans percussion, and is lightly salted with a swingin’ vocal sample, fashioning a tune that is impossible to resist knocking your head to. Grab a taste of Kizer’s swanky style below and try your absolute hardest not to thizz-face your way through it.

In our undying devotion to supporting the creatives of tomorrow, we bring you six forward-thinking labels, separated by genre, to provide an incredible listening experience for every mood. Listen below in alphabetical order.

Bloom Child

Genre: Lo-Fi/Chill

“Melodies plucked from a dream, and bloomed through the soul.”

Ethereal beats, dream-worthy sounds, and sentimental design: All elements illustrating the aesthetic behind the label and collective recognized as Bloom Child. Founded by artist Sofasound, Bloom Child effectively pushes mood-inducing records in a discography made up from the underground’s more melodic composers. Featuring the works of Dreamkiddo, Flawed Mangoes, Kays, and of course, Sofasound, Bloom Child gifts otherworldly arrangements for a relaxed listening experience.

Partica Artist Group

Genre: Trap/Bass

Partica is an artist collective based on the east coast, cultivating and curating electronic, hip hop, and experimental sounds. We live to motivate and inspire creativity through experimentation, exploration, and collaboration.”

Entering the limelight of today’s underground bass market is none other than the Partica Artist Group. Leading the Maryland based label and collective into artistic success are founders Nick Gurfolino (Gurf) and Nick Noel (Runnit). Most recognized for their bass-heavy and wildly detailed discography of experimental trap records, the Partica Artist Group ultimately seeks to assist emerging talent while providing artists a platform for recognition and support. Fueled by a steadfast adoration for trap and bass production, the collective continuously pushes cutting-edge sounds from some of the underground’s finest artists, including Floot, CAMBOT, Kurei, Kin, and many more. A force to be reckoned with, Partica Artist Group is a flawless depiction of the undiscovered talent, lying within the underground.

Strictly Flava

SYNESTHESIA

Genre: Midtempo/Electro

Crafted within the darkest realms of bass culture arrive SYNESTHESIA. Providing an ample variety of ominously toned bass tracks, the label earns adoration for its excellent selection of boundary-defying artists, including Zabo, SWARM, Voliik, and BRVMES. Created by The Golden Search, SYNESTHESIA delivers hard-hitting, gritty records, in turn, captivating music devotes from around the globe. The notoriously dangerous label swiftly takes center stage as it continues to set a precedent for modern-day mid-tempo and bass production.

Tesseract Recordings

Genre: Drum & bass

“In geometry, the tesseract is the four-dimensional analog of the cube; the tesseract is to the cube as the cube is to the square.”

North Yorkshire based label Tesseract Recordings brings drum and bass to the masses, displaying some of the most innovative tracks from the underground sector. Label owner Casan Ozturk (D Flect) and co-manager Elliot Bowman (Arcus) provide an inside look into the next wave of drum and bass production while gaining support from market elites, such as Mixmag Spain, S.P.Y, Zero T, Ill Truth, and Philth.

If you’ve been following FUXWITHIT for a while, chances are you’re familiar with KUREI and Golden Child. The two producers have been putting out heaters with a tremendous consistency. Mixing classic trap sounds with hints of experimental bass, both artists know how to push boundaries while retaining that necessary groove. It seemed almost overdue that the two connected for a collab, and now that they have, you know we had to premiere it. ‘Like This’ is the latest release off Partica’s Vol. II compilation.

Despite living on opposite ends of the country, their chemistry was unaffected by the distance. “This turned out being one of my favorite collabs to date, Anthony (Golden Child) and I just flowed so well on this one and the effort was seamless. I had originally sent him a few ideas and the one he ended up working on was this slow minimal trap banger I had in the works. Within like a day he sent it back and the track was sped up like 25 bpm that just gave it this crazy ass bounce, he also resampled tf outta the first initial drop and that really brought out a ton of texture to the project. I opened up the stems he sent back while on FaceTime and went tf in that day, added a few more elements to tie it all together and that shit was basically done,” KUREI tells us.

‘Like This’ is dark, gritty and dripping with swagger. From the mean-mug inducing synths, to the crunchy bass and pristine percussion, this one is a certified slap. Stream it below and grab the free download. Be sure to look out for more bangers off the upcoming Partica compilation.

Baltimore producer, Runnit, has been absolutely tearing up the underground bass music scene lately. With massive originals and collabs (see ‘Mug Club V1,’ a huge 9 person collab Runnit orchestrated), he is paving his own lane with forward-thinking, trap influenced bangers. Runnit fuses a lot of hip-hop vocals into his productions, but also implores a gritty sound design that remains delightfully wonky. And it’s being heard by some big names like Oski and Zed’s Dead, who have played his tracks in recent mixes. We got a chance to catch up with Runnit to discuss his music, Partica Artist Group, and more. If you haven’t heard of Runnit yet, be prepared to be run up on this mix, with unreleased tracks from himself, fellow Partica members and a choice select of wonky tunes, Runnit flexes his style in an aggressive, trapped out fashion.

What was on your mind while crafting this mix? Any exclusive goodies or upcoming tracks in here you’re excited to release?

Oh 100% I threw a couple in here that I have big plans with including ID collabs with TVBOO, Kayoh, U.O.ME, and more. I asked some friends to send me their heat as well so that you can get a preview of what the gang has in store for the rest of 2019.

What got you into EDM/trap and ultimately producing?

I started producing beats before EDM was even a tagline haha. I used to make beats for rappers when I was in college and recorded bands for extra cash. That was my “in” with producing and mixing. After that I started listening to genres like glitch Hop, moombahton, and finally the earlier stages of trap with people like Gladiator, Bro Safari, Jackal, etc. That’s what ultimately took me away from my earlier projects and made me focus my rap beat skills with a more electronic focus.

Baltimore is really a tough city to try to build an electronic scene in general.

What’s the Baltimore bass scene like right now?

Baltimore is really a tough city to try to build an electronic scene in general. There are a few bigger companies around the area but there really isn’t a lot of love for trap or bass Music. You see a lot of local lineups sprout up but most of them are in other genres like house and riddim and DnB. There is a rich history of warehouse raves and underground events in our city which is awesome but just not to listen to my type of music.

2019 seems to have been a big year for Runnit, with your Dog Blood Flip of ‘Turn Out The Lights’ getting played by Bonnie X Clyde at EDC Las Vegas and in Oski’s Ignition Mix to name a few. How does it feel to hear your music being played by artists like this?

2019 has been an insane year so far when I look back! I can’t believe all the support and people reaching out every time I drop a track, I’m so hugely grateful for it. It gets busy between working a full-time job, co-running Partica, and trying to create at 100% after all that each day. I just hope to one day be able to give back and help support other’s tracks on a big scale the way Oski, San Holo, Bonnie x Clyde, & Zeds Dead have for me this year!

I had the idea to start Partica out of a frustration with a couple things: my local scene, the “isolation” many of us feel as producers, and trouble rebuilding a brand (this is my 3rd Alias…)

As one of the co-founders of Partica Artist Group what inspired you to start Partica?

I had the idea to start Partica out of a frustration with a couple things: my local scene, the “isolation” many of us feel as producers, and trouble rebuilding a brand (this is my 3rd Alias I’ve been through at this point lol). Partica was originally started as an account we ran that just posted playlists highlighting top bass tracks each week trying to promote good underground artists like me. Gurf is from the same area and I reached out to him to help, since he has a strong social media mind and a ton of additional skills that would help be able to build us into an actual network and label! Together we co-run it and have ran the account off the same principles of giving back, promoting talented artists, and trying to foster community around our brand of bass music.

Partica really gives back to the community with free tracks and sample packs. Not a lot of organizations do that, what prompted that decision?

We give out free samples because it helps keep people connected to our brand, builds our artist’s pages, and motivates others to push their productions further. We find that it can be a win-win for our artists and for outside artists who want some extra sounds to play with in their DAW.

The majority of my vocals come from mp3 acapellas or promo Vinyls (the ones with instrumental & acapella on the B-side). I just dig through and pull one-liners out that I like

Your last release ‘LETIGO’ features vocal samples from multiple rappers. You’re certainly no stranger to sampling. How do you go about selecting which elements from songs you include in your music?

Really vibed with how that track came out! Surprisingly the majority of the vocals in that track were added by Litty McGuire, but personally I have my own folders of acapellas I rip pieces from as inspiration. The majority of my vocals come from mp3 acapellas or promo Vinyls (the ones with instrumental & acapella on the B-side). I just dig through and pull one-liners out that I like and save them in folders based on whether they are a loop or a oneshot (hey, oh, what, etc). From there it’s just rinse and repeat till you have a huge stack of startup vocal ideas.

What are some of your passions outside of music?

Outside of music I like to play games like Battlefield & Rocket League (hence the Monstercat Inverness Remix) haha. I try to get out on the weekends occasionally to hike as well because nature is always great inspiration for music. Outside of that my day job and Partica keep me extra busy!

Anything else you have coming in 2019 you’d like to talk about?

I have some shows I’m lining up in the next couple months that I’m extra excited about, hopefully be able to travel and play somewhere since the DMV hasn’t caught on to me yet lol. Partica also does these meetups called “RipNWip” where we go over each other’s new track ideas and then rip vinyl samples together. We are in the process of converting it into a public monthly event in my area so that’ll be exciting to build community physically the same way we push to do online.

Partica Artist Group and Myopic Sounds are two of the most promising collectives to be established in 2019. Despite their recent inception they quickly became FUXWITHIT favourites with their forward-thinking sounds, commitment to breaking new artists and overall consistency. When we found out they’d be connecting for a compilation we knew we had to get in on the fun for a premiere. Kicking off the compilation comes the first single ‘LETIGO’ from Runnit & newcomer Litty McGuire. Pulling gritty vocals and ad libs from Playboi Carti, Future and MadeinTYO and combining them with some serious knock and filthy sound design results in a top-tier trap banger. With just the right amount of groove and a healthy helping of wonk, they simply knocked this one out of the park.

‘LETIGO’ is the first taste of 5 track All Star Compilation which is set to see some of the finest bass artists from the east and west coasts colliding. We had to connect with Gurf & Runnit to get a bit more insight into how this all came together. “We noticed Myopic Sounds a few months back because they released their debut compilation just around the same time we did ours. We kept joking that they were “west coast Partica” because they were into that wonky weird trap sound that we were going for! Between that and their stellar visual branding, we felt like it was a no brainer to work with them. We wanted to capitalize on the duality between us, and since summer was upon us, we had this hilarious idea to frame the whole comp like a classic summer baseball tournament. We wanted to do something unique but still thematic, so we lined up the guys in two “teams” and made each member collab with somebody on the opposite team. Forcing everybody to collaborate ended up feeling way more organic then we could have imagined and we’re very proud of that,” Partica’s Gurf & Runnit explain. Having heard the comp, I can assure you, you won’t be disappointed. Bump ‘LETIGO’ now and be sure to look out for a new track of the project dropping every week through August. Oh and don’t sleep on that free download.
