Pigeon Hole and thook are both putting out some of their best music to date, so when they announced a collaboration it was an immediate attention grabber. It’s a collaboration that makes so much sense and is sure to excite fans. They didn’t hold anything back either, going full on experimental bass music and letting each of their styles fuse together in a mind-melting manner.

‘Vertigo’ begins with an eerie atmosphere and dark mood, that slowly builds until the track crashes into a simplistic but heavy hitting drop with a delayed lead that wiggles around the track. The stretched and distorted bass noises that appear in ‘Vertigo’ are absolutely insane and give it a lot more depth. The sweet spot in this track comes at the second drop, where it’s a gigantic chop of all the elements of the track re-arranged and mashed up in a wonky order.

‘Vertigo’ is sure to make listeners heads spin while listening, check it out below.

Canadian duo, Pigeon Hole, have been heating up the West Coast bass music scene for a few years now, and with releases on labels like Waakan and Saturate Records, you can expect to find some seriously heavy, face-melting tracks from them. The duo effortlessly combines hip-hop elements with the dark, experimental sounds that artists like G-Jones, Eprom, and more navigate. Their latest release, titled ‘No Coming Back’ stays true to their roots, but delivers a powerful punch of devastating proportions.

‘No Coming Back’ begins with classic hip-hop drums, layered over a haunting emergency alarm blaring in the distance. As the intensity builds, the listener is given a sense of urgency to find cover before the track unleashes into a gritty, apocalyptic soundscape that warms your speakers. After the first attack, the vocals, “Coming Back” echo, warning listeners that they aren’t finished with their assault. The second drop is full of wiggly, destructive sounds over a bouncy rhythm, that is sure to decimate dance floors.

Vancouver based bass duo Pigeon Hole have been absolutely tearing up the experimental realms of electronic music for the past 2 years, but they weren’t always frequenters of the wubs. Before 2011, Leo Napthine and Colin McCue started off their careers as members of the hip hop collective Sweatshop Union, a fellow Canadian-based group that prided itself on showcasing up and coming talent. Summer 2011 would be a major turning point for the duo though, as they decide to cut ties with Sweatshop Union after falling in love with the music and culture that surrounded the bass music festivals that they attended that year. 2 years later we saw their first major release through Urbnet Records, their Chimp Blood EP, which put on full display their roots as hip-hop lyricists mixed with their newfound talent and love for outside-the-box beats.

Fast-forward to 2019, and the group has had major releases on Wakaan, Outer Realms, Gravitas, and Sleeveless Records, just to name a few. Their first single of the year was part of the stellar Saturated Warriors compilation album between Saturate and Sleeveless Records, and now hot off the presses is their self-published single ‘Wide Eyed’. The song begins with an airy, alien sounding extended synth that sounds like the death star is warming up its death cannon, and then right before you expect a reality-shattering bassline to occur, you get hit with a saucy hip-hop sample of “I don’t give a fuck about”. It’s clear what they don’t give a fuck about, and its following trends that other people set. Their commitment to finding and honing their own unique sound is palpable throughout this piece, as they majestically blend their hip hop roots with their current love for sound experimentation. Sprinkling vocal samples throughout gives major energy boosts to this song and adds multitudes of style. The second drop is an absolute slapper that really rounds out the overall progression of the song, fully fleshing out the thickness of the layering.

With only two songs out so far in 2019, and with both being absolutely massive, fans are left eagerly waiting for what comes next from this supremely talented combo.

Check out ‘Wide Eyed’ for yourself below!

Pigeon Hole exploded onto our radar earlier this year with the monster west coast bass banger ‘Dodge Ball’. After following it up with their recent single ‘Wolves,’ we were completely convinced that Pigeon Hole are the future. The BC based duo are gearing up to further cement the fact with a massive new EP entitled Noise Parade on Minnesota’s label Outer Realms. The full project drops tomorrow but we’ve got an exclusive early taste with ‘Front Row’.

“The front row is where the die hards are. That’s still where we like to be when we watch someone play. The front row is where you really experience the bass bins. It’s basically a shout out to everyone who really came to get down to the music,” Pigeon Hole explain. The vocals “Front Row space shit” form the foundation of this masterwork. “The vocal is Colin from Pigeon Hole. We do our own vocals for the most part, cause that’s how we started making music. Rapping and making rap beats,” the guys tell us. Drawing from their rap background they inject an undeniable hip-hop energy while pushing the boundaries with sound design and menacing bass. The otherworldly synths dance under the tweaked vocals creating an extraterrestrial energy. As the drums build, Pigeon Hole hit us with “the underground shit from basement.” The deep bass hits like drug, controlling your mind and body into a powerful sway. ‘Front Row’ feels like a rave in the wild with the only light coming off the circling space ships. Take a trip into it below.

Noise Parade drops tomorrow. As for what to expect? We’ll let Pigeon Hole tell it, “High energy hip-hop influenced bass music. We like music to be raw and aggressive, the EP is that, but we keep it playful. It’s a balance.” Trust us when we say you don’t want to miss it.
