Since adopting the moniker Tek Genesis about a year ago, the Sydney-based artist has embraced an experimental sound that has pushed the boundaries of bass music, earning the early support from some of the best in that category, Noisia. The Temp LP dating back to December 2019 was the first full body of work that fans got from Tek Genesis and it exceeded all expectations, combining bass ingenuity with emotional undertones unlike any other artist. Now, Temp is getting a second life in the form of a remix album, and continues on the path of innovation seen by Division Recordings and the artists featured in the ensemble.

Six of the original album’s eleven tracks have received a treatment from eight different artists who uniquely fall into the category of promising rising stars. If drum & bass is your cup of tea, dive into Rohaan’s take on ‘Cloud Kingdom Theme’ or Posij’s remix of ‘Cryostasis.’ If you’re looking for something a bit more ambient, Former’s rendition of ‘Petrichor’ and SUMII’s version of ‘Cloud Kingdom Theme’ are sure to put you at ease. The rest of the remixes fall somewhere between those two extremes while remaining under the broad umbrella of bass music, with personal favourites being Point Clare’s menacing take on ‘Amber’ and Jon Casey’s wicked halftime flip of ‘Raid.’ With Rad Hatter and Blake Skowron wrapping up the remix pack, fans of bass music will undoubtedly find a few tracks worth rinsing for weeks to come. Dive in to Temp Remixed below.

Aussie beat fiend Point Clare has been decimating the game all over Australia with his experimental trap fluctuations, placing major emphasis on overall production quality and stylistic elements. We were so impressed with his hustle, we recently recruited him for the 92nd installment of our guest mix series, where he decided to go off and drop 13 of his own tracks on us. Now, we’ve had the pleasure of working with this bright young talent again, this time in the form of premiering his latest single ‘Subliminal.’

Setting a futuristic ambiance from the beginning, ‘Subliminal’ is a majorly progressive piece in both its sounds and its arrangements, a surely fresh feast for your ears. The miraculous aspect of the track is how exceptionally clean each sound is, with the switch-ups guaranteeing to catch you fully off-guard. This should absolutely pop off on a major festival sound system, and I wouldn’t doubt if you’ll hear it rinsed consistently across North America this summer. One is almost tempted to call ‘Subliminal’ easy on the ears because of how meticulously put together it is, but that would entirely negate how equally heavy it is as well. A banger if you’ve ever heard one, this could easily be an instant party starter wherever you go.

Check out ‘Subliminal’ for yourself below!

Aussie based trap connoisseur and under the radar producer POINT CLARE moves in silence, but the moves he makes are made with power. It is only a matter of time before you will see the name everywhere and hear it from everyone. I first discovered him around two years ago with ‘Whips’ and have steadily shared his music with those around me. When his name first came up as a discussion among the FUXWITHIT team, I became immediately thrilled. I quickly sent over my favorite tracks and began to explore to extent of his SoundCloud once again. It is a great feeling to be able to present this extraordinary guest mix and insightful interview.

POINT CLARE has an exceptional ear for producing as he is able to hone in on the different worlds of forward-thinking trap and future bass. Consistency and improvement could be stated as his motto and we look forward to where his momentum will carry him. In this mix you can expect an array of unreleased tracks from POINT CLARE as well as from some of his friends. We also discuss artists that keep him motivated, the evolution of his production, what we can expect from him out of this year and more.

Tell us a bit about POINT CLARE. How old are you? At what age did you start producing? How did it all come about?

I’m 21, I started producing when I was 16. I started listening to Justice and Skrillex when I was 14 , I eventually got curious about how the music was made and read somewhere that Skrillex used Massive to make sounds. So I got Massive without even having a DAW and was very confused as to why I couldn’t hear anything. I eventually got FL and began working things out slowly.

I personally am always interested in the origins of artist names. How did the POINT CLARE moniker come to life?

I pinched the name from a town I used to live in… called Point Clare. I was always very bad at picking names, and I thought it sounded cool and it wasn’t taken on Spotify so I thought I’d run with it.

How do you come up with song ideas? Where does it start? How does it evolve?

It varies song to song but I don’t often have an idea ready to go prior to opening up Ableton. The way it usually goes is I’ll sit down and sound design for a few hours until I come up with an interesting sound, loop or idea and build off that, a lot of it is just trial and error. Up until last year I generally started by writing chords and building the track around them, that was a really good way of getting into the groove of writing a track. However, lately I’ve been having a lot of fun creating cool sounds and improving my sound design skills.

I still don’t really do anything specific other than releasing music consistently and trying as hard as I can to constantly improve with every track

What have been some of the successful tactics for you to gain fans and listeners?

I never really thought about specific things I was doing to gain an audience, I still don’t really do anything specific other than releasing music consistently and trying as hard as I can to constantly improve with every track, even small improvements eventually add up. Having a certain quality to your music that distinguishes you from everyone else is also something to keep in mind when trying to attract listeners. I really think those are the most important things you can do to get attention, especially at the start.

Who are some of the up and coming artists right now that motivate you to really stay on top of your game?

Tek Genesis, Jack Slade and Quiet Bison are probably the main ones at the moment. The thing I admire the most about them (other than the fact that they make some of the best music out there) is how quick and efficient they are at producing, something that would take me days to make only takes them a few hours, it’s honestly insane. It really pushes me to keep learning new things just so I can keep up with them. Ensu, Halinae and Mobius are making some real dope music at the moment, people should keep an eye out for them.

On your SoundCloud I noticed a link to POINT CLARE B-SIDES with no posts. Can you give us any insight on what to expect here if anything?

Not too sure what I’ll be posting there, most likely just projects which I can’t really be bothered finishing but still think are cool, also maybe some older stuff that I never got around to finishing or releasing. I’m surprised you saw this, good eye.

You recently tweeted “What’s the first thing you’d put in a bag of Doritos?” So naturally I have to ask, what are you putting in your bag?

Hahahahahah, damn. Uh.. Zack Fox fans will know what this is about. I think that’s all I’ll say about that.

What’s the best thing you’ve done this year?

Honestly, It’d have to be announcing Subliminal and putting this guest mix out, especially through FUXWITHIT. That’s a huge goal ticket off my list. I’ve been sitting on this track for almost a year now and it feels really good to finally release it.

Lots of new music! Maybe even another EP towards the end of the year…

What can 2020 expect from the POINT CLARE project?

Lots of new music! Maybe even another EP towards the end of the year. The music I’m currently making and sitting on is a lot more polished and consistent than stuff I was putting out during the last couple years, not to discredit those tracks, I still think they’re great but I’m very excited to show everyone this new stuff.

Tell us a little bit about the mix. If it were a movie what would the tagline be?

This mix has 17 tracks, some tracks are unreleased songs from my friends but most are unreleased tracks from myself. The tagline would probably be “bro, that’s a track.”

Tracklist

Birthed from an initiative for charitability through music, the Forêt Compilation courtesy of Chicago-based collective Reset Presents stands tribute to the ability that music has to shape and guide our individual intentions in congruence to collective societal goals. Stemming from the recent disasters that deeply inflicted the prosperity of the Amazon Rainforest, Forêt is aimed to unify an abundance of creative potential towards an allied resolution.

“I was devastated when the stories of the fires in the Amazon went viral. Though it wasn’t new information that man-made destruction of the Amazon and other places was altering our world, immersing myself in the coverage of it all made me feel completely powerless. Kael (Palpa) and I shared our grief with each other and initially posted some knee-jerk reactions of how we felt on social media, but it didn’t feel like we were doing nearly enough,” Reset co-founder ell!psis shares regarding the horrific mass media coverage that initially fueled the inspiration for the project.

Composing 13 individual tracks that feature an exceptional roster of creative fortitude including, but not limited to, William Crooks, VALENTINE & underscores, ell!psis, POINT CLARE, Shhh, and PALPA, Forêt spans a multiplicity of genres and preferences, resulting in an eclectic sonic offering that rests easily on the ears and genuinely upon the heart.

“It makes me overwhelmingly happy to see artists I look up to contributing to such an important cause, and it really shows the character of these artists and the kind of people they are beyond their craft. The reception has been great not only in our artist network but also through family and friends. People are getting a new experience and making a difference— this is the kind of power music has, and I’m so grateful to know these individuals,” PALPA reflects regarding the overwhelmingly positive response that has resulted from the team’s cooperative efforts.

Needless to say, music has the untold ability to inspire hope and consolidate an altruistic goal. Forêt is a true embodiment of a selfless initiative and a shining beacon of conviction toward the impact that can be achieved through a collective, creative mentality. Check out Forêt, available in entirety today via BandCamp as well as the Minimix courtesy of Reset Presents that features each track from the compilation woven into a diverse 20-minute set.
