Back in July, bitbird released a nostalgia-inducing track by LA-based Mija and pop-electronic duo, sharks!. Now East Coast is giving its take on ‘Get Lost’ with a remix by NYC resident, Proper Villians. The producer’s groovy take brings danceability to the introspective track, making it ready for a club on any coast!

Pining for the past, Proper Villians pushes a flashback-provoking flip of ‘Get Lost.’ The track takes you into a time machine and back to an era with music driven by a disco-influenced four-on-the-floor beat and an electric guitar-led melody. Hypnotic synthesizers and Mija’s mesmerizing voice puts you in a trance and gets you ready to dance.

Going against the grain of dance music’s standard formulaic approach, Proper Villain’s reimagination of ‘Get Lost’ is refreshing and memorable, proving that he’s absolutely a house producer you should be keeping your eye on. He gives insight on the remix saying, “This is one of my favorite remixes I produced this year. It was my first time remixing rock music. I was inspired by the dance-rock/electronic crossover of the mid-2000s Soulwax, DFA, and Simian Mobile Disco.”

This new music Friday, we’re bringing the “dance” back in electronic dance music. Today, Chicago house icon DJ Deeon delivers his Half A Blunt Mix of ‘What’s The Word.’ The original track was in New York City legends Cakes da Killa and Proper Villains’ sought-after collaborative EP, Muvaland Vol. 2.

Cakes da Killa has been credited as one of the pioneers of LGBTQ+ acceptance in the rap community during the 2012 “queer explosion” in New York City. The rapper is known for blending elements of hip-hop and dance music, which explains the collaborations between names like Proper Villians and DJ Deeon. The song absolutely seems to be the perfect fit for inclusive music and fashion label HE.SHE.THEY., whose mission is to be “a place without prejudice for people to be people.”

While Proper Villains’ mix is bouncy and danceable, DJ Deeon’s rendition provides the gritty, acid tech house that makes you feel like you’re grooving in a warehouse at 2:00 am. Lavish lasers flow through the beat as Cakes da Killa chants, “Dance my little sista!”

There’s no way you’ll be able to stay in one spot when you hear it, so press play below and get ready to dance into the weekend.
