QUIX has been hinting at a return to his old style as of late, notably with the release of ‘Gunning For You‘ in April and the IDK [Vol. 1] EP and ‘I Got Tha‘ in late 2019, while Vincent has never really abandoned the sound of his XVII days, but has merely grown into a more well-rounded, versatile producer. Despite this, the joining of the two forces was sure to unleash a festival-ready heater, and boy did they not disappoint.

The debut of the TIGER DROOL project comes via Deadbeats in the form of ‘Tiger,’ a single that is as menacing as the animal it is named after. The introduction immediately paints an eerie picture before QUIX and Vincent quickly add classic trap horns that will transport listeners to the early parts of the last decade. As a vocal layer is added to the build up, the tension becomes insurmountable as TIGER DROOL flip the track into an anthemic beast that will undoubtedly get those arms swinging. Dropping the original version of ‘I Got Tha,’ QUIX clearly proves he is always cooking up some heat in the studio. As a guitar solo takes over to build further anticipation infused with a solid flowing instrumental. The pace begins to increase as QUIX fuels the fire with low pitched vocals and exhilarating synths. Suddenly, a rampage of bass and dirty snares are guaranteed for his audience to get a little wonky this winter season.

With INFEKT releasing his remix, the clock ticks down with vibrant guitar chords chiming throughout the single. Hitting the climatic drop, a nasty explosion of distortion and flares of bass begin spitting out which further perpetuate INFEKT’s recognized sound of jaw dropping sounds and leaving his listeners in a state of shock. Now if anyone crafted a legendary guitar solo and further amplified the introduction, it is power-duo Bandlez. With a series of drum claps and high pitched instrumentals to rock your heart out to, Bandlez provides their listeners a dynamic approach to QUIX’s original by crafting a massive dub-step infused banger filled with a numerous vocal chops to enter their kingdom of bass.

With a wide array of elements personified in this EP, these hard-hitting producers are not messing around when it comes to their experimental production style and we can only hope for more down the line.

Kicking the project off comes ‘Huhhh’. Ominous undertones lure us into his lair before pounding drums and sirens build hype. Perfectly sprinkled vocal samples are paired with trap grunts that give the song its namesake. Metallic synths rip through the track like a freshly sharpened Katana and thick bass reverberates through your soul. This is easily one of the hardest tracks QUIX has created since ‘Storm’. ‘FON’ follows things up keeping the energy high and agressive. Don’t expect a stroll on the beach with ‘Fiji Day 4’. This one is as menacing and hard-hitting as the rest of the project. Sci-fi sounds are coupled with drilling bass and mind-rattling sound design for a vibe that’s anything but relaxing. Saving the most adventurous for last comes ‘My House is IKEA’. It’s the type of off-kilter smash that’ll have you screaming “what the fuck!?” regardless of your surroundings. You may not want to listen to this in a library or quiet study hall. Not only will it have you screaming out, but you’ll be struggling to fight the urge to shuffle aggressively. I’m not sure how MALM dressers and POÄNG chairs inspired this banger but we have to give thanks to Ingvar Kamprad for this one.

IDK [Vol. 1] is everything we’ve been hoping for in a QUIX EP. It’s pounding, audacious, unforgiving and filthy. This is QUIX at his best.
