For a while now, the artist has been breaking the mold and is truly driving electronic trap music in the right direction. Made the first version of this song back in late 2020. Pretty sure I started it in a hotel room before playing at my first show in years, a drive in show with Boombox Cartel in the bay area. It was originally called ‘Rave Bounce’ since the lead was made out of a bunch of processed rave stabs. My goal with this track was to create something that takes you through an emotional journey while still going hard and being fun to listen to. Hope this makes you feel something and are ready for more as this marks the beginning of something new!

We begin our journey as the melody creeps in before being joined by these hypnotic lead vocals and some sick jungle-flows on percussion. Soon after, we’re hit with a quick build-up before being launched into an 808-heavy and horn ladened drop section, with a snare that seems to jump out of the mix and flick you in the ear. After another quick build, we’re met with a more industrial sound in the second drop, with these bouncy metallic synths taking the lead. It goes without saying ‘High Tide’ will surely be tearing up some festival stages sooner than later.

We caught up with the rising star for a brief interview to learn more about the track, inspiration from friends, and his evolution.

First off, tell us a little about the track. How did ‘High Tide’ come to be? 

I made the first version of this song back in October 2020. It actually started with the 2nd drop as the main drop and had a way different intro. When trying to make another drop for the demo, I ended up writing the brass horn lead line and instantly knew I wanted to base the whole song around that. After that, I ended up writing a new intro with the goal of creating something nostalgic and upbeat while still being able to transition into the brass-driven drop. The vocal chops were a last-minute addition during the writing process and it definitely glued the whole track together for me.

As soon as I heard this track on your detour mix (which was phenomenal) I knew this was gonna be a weapon. We saw some familiar faces in that car with you. How much do these people inspire you when making music? 

Those guys are all my best friends and we all share the same passion for being creative and making music. I feel like we all just inspire each other and push each other to make the best music and content that we can. I’ve definitely learned a lot from each and every one of my friends and I’m really lucky to have those guys around!

When I think of your sound, it never fails to give me that nostalgic golden era feeling while at the same time never feeling dated. Tell us a little bit about how your sound has evolved throughout time and what direction you see it heading. 

The past two years were definitely the turning point for my sound. I’ve been producing ever since I was like 10 but I definitely made the most progress over these past few years. I spent a lot of time experimenting trying to make a sound that’s unique to myself while still taking influences from artists that I look up to. I’ve always loved EDM and trap since the golden era and grew up listening to all of those artists which definitely helped shape my sound. My main goal when writing music is to create something that provokes emotion while still being catchy and danceable. I really want to keep pushing myself to make something new every time I write a song and hope to keep doing that with every release. It’s hard to say where I see my sound heading right now as I’m really trying to experiment with everything while still keeping my own touch on things so people know they are listening to a RemK song. I have a ton of songs that I can’t wait to release and I’m really looking forward to what the future has in store!

First up, we have a special reimagined version of ‘Ego Death’ by Juelz and RemK. With the original having a deep house flavor, these heavy hitters decided to flip it into something much more. Their trap influences come out very strong with every note being played. From hard hitting drums, to a trippy acid lead over the top, this remix honors the original fully to the core. Every second is a breath of fresh air and brings their musical bond together even more. As a result, they’ve created the best flip of ‘Ego Death’ by far thanks to the rhythm alone.

Next, Juelz and Heimanu race through the dawn of time with their remix of Baauer’s song, ‘Aether.’ Being released on his recent album, ‘Aether’ was one of the tracks which stood out the most on the project. And with Heimanu having such a futuristic style of production, it was a perfect match for these two to flip this masterpiece. Taking off with no hesitation, they completely take the original into their own hands by adding monumental sounding drums, atmosphere and overall arrangement. They take us farther into the unknown with every section within this remix. Adding unimaginable elements while still preserving the priceless vision which Baauer created in the original.

Right after, Juelz slows it down by remixing the Lil Uzi Vert and Playboi Carti track, ‘No Stylist.’ What makes this one truly special, is the diversity within. From a gorgeous hip-hop section to honor the vocal, to a spacious and lush chorus, there’s no telling what might come next. The way he used a distorted vocal as a lead was a genius route to take. He truly kept the beautiful qualities from the original and made it into his own. Resulting in a dreamy lullaby for hip-hop and electronic music lovers.

Finally, Juelz and anti. close this mixtape off with an energetic and powerful remix of Flo Mili’s, ‘In The Party.’ You’re going to want to brace yourselves for this one. Starting off with a heavy and nasty introduction, they honor Flo Mili’s attitude in her vocals using a thick 808 and light drums. Bringing it all together, a buildup forms, clearly hearing a classic anti. vibe in there. Telling us they’re both about to make an impact. And once that chorus drops, it will blow you away. anti. incorporating his signature gritty bass and sound design makes this extra spicy. Making each section flow so smoothly in an orderly fashion. All together this one is a certified banger. They really went all out on this one.

Kicking off at the fourth spot in the compilation is Duke & Jones with ‘Waist Down,’ a song that will make you jive from your tops of your hips to the tips of your toes. This is a deliciously trappy auditory layer cake that only gets better as it progresses. The first drop acclimates you to the pristine sound design and amazing flow, making it exceedingly difficult not to move on the spot. The latter drop is much thicker than the first, maintaining the energy while allowing for more full-bodied undulations. If you’re looking for a song to get a party popping real quick, throw this puppy on and watch the room go wild.

Next, EDM funny guy and experimental dubstep producer, Tvboo, and swiftly rising production wizard Ruvlo, have dastardly devised a musical tool of mass destruction. ‘Break It Down’ does just that, obliterating everything in its path. With three separate unforgiving drops with maximum malicious intent, this track is a first-class headbanging marathon. The first drop melds both styles seamlessly, beginning with thick trap-heavy basslines that quickly devolve into Tvboo’s signature “make your mind feel like it’s in a blender” type sound, ping-ponging back and forth. This song feels like a true collaboration, with neither party dominating the overall sound, an immaculate harmony.

Aaron LeClair also known as Hairitage comes in at the eighth spot in the collection with his piece ‘The Movement,’ a red bull for your nervous system. The pre-drop vocals of “down with this movement” get you primed and ready before you get smacked with a delightfully filthy trap beat. To call this song funky would be a grave understatement. A push for individuality and creativity is evident, with fun and weirdness in maximum demand.

RemK and his track ‘Flip It’ are my final highlight of Pressure Points, another immensely talented artist currently navigating the realms of heavy trap heaters. Putting the hybrid back in hybrid trap, he alternates between cascades of thick basslines and more traditional trap stylings, keeping your ears guessing. What they don’t have to guess, however, is whether or not each song he puts out slaps, because it’s always a yes.

Parametric Records hit a major homerun with Pressure Points Vol. 1, giving progressive bass artists a body of work to showcase their inordinate amounts of talent. Giving this entire collection a thorough rinse will assuredly leave each and every listener eagerly awaiting Vol. 2, a sure sign of big things to come.
