Rickyxsan has been relatively inactive as of late, with his latest track coming over 18 months ago. Nonetheless, in his r/trap AMA yesterday, he said, “happy to be back, I missed it all! can’t wait for you to hear the new shit I have planned for the year!” We couldn’t be more stoked to enter a new age of Rickyxsan, and with that, we welcome Sonic Trip, the artist’s new label.

Sonic Trip’s first release, ‘ZONED,’ sees the LA-based artist jump into 2022 with further proof of the pristine workflow that he shares with Hydraulix. With the latter artist coming off his monumental Imposter Syndrome LP,  there is no better way to return to singles than with his trustee friend. ‘ZONED’ is sinister in its opening and filled with futuristic effects that hint at the madness that follows. A quick transition leads listeners to the quintessential bass contortions that are omnipresent in both producers’ signatures, again fusing elements from different genres to create a mind-melting concoction. Equally quirky as it is heavy, ‘ZONED’ demonstrates that Rickyxsan has not lost his touch, and that Hydraulix is a consistent force in the bass scene. Don’t miss it below.

Now, Never Say Die has picked a handful of bass music’s hottest names to remix the five tracks from the Overdrive EP to give the project a fresh, new life and to remind us all that there are still a few producers out there continuing to push the bass music scene to unprecedented limits.

First up is Kompany, taking a stab at the EP’s title track and proving why is he one of the most consistent artists out right now. Keeping elements of the original throughout, the LA-based producer adds his distinct touch of tear-out to make ‘Overdrive’ even more headbang-ready than it was before. Rickyxsan makes his long-awaited return to Never Say Die by remixing ‘Kaiju’ into an eclectic trap scorcher, boasting his usual crisp and wonky synths. SVDDEN DEATH goes full mad scientist on Space Laces and Getter’s ‘Choppaz,’ turning the original on its head with his aggressive, almost demonic sound design. Phiso unleashes his wretched sounds on ‘Cheeseburger,’ turning the almost comical original into a riddim-esque heater sure to possess any unsuspecting soul upon first listen. Last but not least, Gammer does the unthinkable and elevates the ruckus to a new level in his remix for ‘Torque.’

First up is Zeke Beats trip to the ‘Next World’. A futuristic take that still embodies a moving energy with an underlying ancient influence. Gladiator’s take on ‘Hollow’ is another can’t miss. The track bounces between club and trap, perfectly utilizing elements of the original but injecting a more fun-filled aesthetic. If you’re looking for something heavy, it should come as no surprise that Rickyxsan’s ‘PCP’ is your prescription. The original is intensely raw and this rework doesn’t lose any of OG’s energy. Rugged sound design and devastating bass make this a certified slapper. Rounding out my list of favourites is Blush’s ‘Monarch’ remix. While it opens with regal and exotic motif, it morphs into a futuristic mind-bender. Blush was the only remixer who’s name I didn’t recognize going into this, but he’s definitely one I soon won’t be forgetting. The project also features heavy hitters like Vincent, X&G, Hex Cougar, StéLouse & more. Stream them all below.
