Spanning thirteen tracks and just over 46 minutes, the project contains everything one would expect from the artist, and so much more. The opening half of the project features more of the signature house/garage grooves that Rome in Silver has perfected over the years, with a sprinkle of pop-leaning riffs and and disco-like cuts that only elevate the uplifting spirit of the ensemble. ‘Inferno’ then comes along to change the mood, as Rome in Silver dives into to tech house head first, giving listeners a taste of his ability to make club-ready hits. Two more quintessential Rome in Silver tracks follow, before the artist further showcases his multi-genre approach with ‘Better.’ ‘Back 2 Basics’ showcases a brief return to his old style, before the project is closed out with the bouncy ‘Think About It’ and the ethereal ‘Apollo’s Lantern.’

She even uplifts other women in music with her record label, Women on Wax.

2. Saka

Hong Kong native Saka has been one of our favorite producers for years, with us heavily covering his music since 2019. The producer’s ability to bring us bass music in such an explorative fashion has proven time and time again why he’s one of the greats of our time.

3. Rome In Silver

You don’t need us to tell you why you should go to the Rome In Silver set. We talk about him way too much. Just do it.

4. A Hundred Drums

World bass producer A Hundred Drums has been absolutely killing it, so if you don’t know her name already, you’ve been sleeping. The Deadbeats signee has been seen at huge festivals like Coachella, Tribal Gathering, and Burming Man, and most recently, she supported Rezz at Red Rocks. Experience it in real life as she showcases her love of reggae, dubstep, and psytrance.

5. DUCKWRTH

We’re not entirely sure why DUCKWRTH’s name is so small, but we’re glad to see it on here nonetheless. The LA-based rapper/singer-songwriter is super versatile, not only in his sound, but also in his reach. His talent landed him collaborations with fashion brands like Paul Smith and Fila, and placements on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and HBO’s Insecure.

6. HoneyLuv

From NCAA basketball player to one of the hottest names in house music, HoneyLuv is someone you should know about. Making a name for herself in under two years, she now has a residency on LP Giobbi’s ‘Femmehouse’ series and pops up from time to time on Desert Hearts and House Nation. This year, she even peformed at EDC Las Vegas.

7. Ross from Friends

One of the most unique names in dance music right now is Ross from Friends, but the producer has been around for years. The London-based beatmaker grabs elements from so many genres, it’s honestly hard to put him into one category, so you’ll just have to go and hear it for yourself.

8. Heidi Lawden

If you want to have a real rave experience, go see Heidi Lawden. The global DJ has been at it for almost a decade, telling fans you can normally find her at “dublab.com in discos, deserts, and darkened warehouses.”

9. Kumarion

Kumarion has been a tour de force in the bass community, praised for being one of the names speerheading the drum n bass boom in the States. However, we can’t deny that it was his Jadu Dala release ‘(Give It To Me Like I) Want It’ that got everyone’s attention, and we even named the track in our top 50 of 2020.

10. Lab Group

Super-trio Lab Group is made up of some of the biggest names in US bass music right now. Made up of heavy-hitters Charlesthefirst, Supertask, and Potions, each producer also has a solo set at the fest, but this is one you won’t want to miss. There wasn’t a live set or mix example I could find, but their self-titled EP did come out back in July.

The project opens with ‘Mosaic,’ featuring a hazy soundscape that creates an air of mystique. As the drums drift in, you’re brought closer before being leveled by a cataclysmic drop. The synths are dizzying and call back a grittiness of Rome In Silver’s early work. The beautiful melodic break provides a picturesque detour before things get heavy once again.

The previously released singles ‘Colorblind’ with Biicla and ‘Like You’ add layers of depth to the middle of the project. The Biicla collab is haunting and melancholy while still remaining catchy and dare I say fun? ‘Like You’ is an absolute work of art. From the driving, evocative house groove to the entrancing melodies and lovely vocals, this song feels like falling in love for the first time in the peak of the summer. It’s a pure shot of serotonin in audio form.

Lhasa Petik’s sad vocals find the perfect home on ‘Never Be The One.’ It’s a moving work that’s assured to put you in your feels with a bouncy bassline that’ll have you moving with ease. Wrapping up Makeshift Moon comes ‘You Know’ a bop that proves glitchy doesn’t have to equate to abrasive. It’s futuristic and experimental while still remaining approachable.

I definitely took in a lot of my surroundings when I made this EP. Each track was written in a different location ranging from Palm Springs to Orange County…they all have a drastically different feel. I was in Palm Springs listening to a ton of Bonobo records back to back. I wanted to create something similar by using organic, world influenced sounds but with my own flavor and this was the end result. Everything was based around that vocal phrase and the kalimba [instrument]. Once I had a good drum groove going along with those, I sent it to my friend Harvey who helped me shape the structure of the song and add some melodies underneath. – Rome In Silver

With the kalimba and vocal sample serving as the foundation, Rome In Silver creates an entire world within ‘Like You.’ Simple but powerful, the lyrics gently pull at your heartstrings reminding you of that moment you first began to realize you might be falling in love. The sun is shining bright. The air is warm and worries are too far in the distance to even drift into your mental plane. It’s energizing, evocative and infectious. This one will have you dancing in the street, smiling to the beat, and hitting repeat for months to come.

Today, we have the extreme pleasure of premiering the first single from the project, namely a rare collaboration with Russia-based Biicla titled ‘Colorblind.’ Making waves of his own through an irresistibly catchy international brand of future bass mixed with house music influences, Biicla continues to make his mark in the scene and the teaming with Rome in Silver sounds like a match made in heaven. Touching on the process, Rome in Silver  says, “it’s a step forward because I don’t do many collaborations unless it’s with someone who I feel would compliment my style well. I’m a big fan of Biicla and I think this is just the first of many between him and me.” Biicla agrees, saying “we’re on the same musical wave and this is not our last joint work.”

Diving into the unfamiliar territory of garage, Rome in Silver and Biicla’s latest is a feels-inducing bop that will caress your soul like a soft, silky blanket. The introduction is minimal with raw vocals providing a welcome opening, before quintessential Rome in Silver effects lead listeners to the meat of the piece. ‘Colorblind’ then takes a groovy twist that is equally danceable as it is beautiful, with lush fills and minute attention to detail that attests to the true mastery of both involved. Continuing on this train of delivering serendipitous emotions, Rome in Silver returns today with his first release of the year, namely a fun-filled remix of Mindchatter’s ‘Night Goggles.’ While the original is calm and soothing with minimal electronic elements, the talented producer’s remix is lively, funky and hypnotizing. The original vocals are kept intact, but Rome in Silver gradually adds layers that build the intensity and danceability of the piece, blurring styles and genres as he has done so gracefully time and time again.

Kicking off the project comes Acrillics’ ‘What Do You Want.’ It’s no secret we’ve been longtime fans and supporters and it’s always great to see the duo making big moves. Serving as a perfect introduction, it starts as a slow burner with emotive undertones before unveiling a bass-leaning trap nature. Blending feels with aggressive and powerful energy makes this a can’t miss.

Chromonicci has become renowned for his diversity, from future beat finesse to lofi chill tunes and trap slaps, he can do it all. With ‘Singularity’ he finds a perfect fusion of off-kilter future beats and the chest-pounding energy of raw trap. It’s smooth yet, banging. Experimental but approachable and dare I say… smooth. In short, it’s spectacular.

The stash of unreleased heat that Dabow is sitting on right now is absolutely insane. Any time we get one of his highly sought-after IDs for release we relish it. ‘Poder’ has been a staple in Dabow sets and mixes so it’s great to finally get the proper release. From the bent vocal loops, to ice-cold keys and the blistering brass, this is trap music at its best. People really need to stop sleeping on Dabow’s greatness.

Possibly the biggest surprise on the tape is Giraffage’s’ ‘idgaf.’ Based around the vocal “I don’t give a fuck,” this is a blistering banger here to set speakers ablaze. Booming bass, precise vocals chops, and an almost absurd party vibe make it undeniably infectious. It’s the type of banger you could see getting spun out in trap or bass house sets or serving as the perfect bridge between the genres in a setlist. I didn’t know Giraffage went this hard.

Other mid-to-late tape standouts include Great Dane’s ‘aya hua’ which fuses tribal and spiritual energy with some serious bump, LYNY’s bossed-up anthem ‘Stumble,’ and RamonPang’s beastly ‘Santoor Unkown.’

Last but not least I have to highlight Rome In Silver’s ‘Little Demons.’ I’ve been waiting for this one to drop since I included it as an ID in my Electric Hawk Takover Mix in early 2020. Electric basslines, swooning vocals, crisp claps and a forward-thinking soundscape are expertly intertwined. The drops are funky and inviting while remaining mean. It exemplifies the exceptional balance that Rome In Silver has managed to master.

The original song has so much charisma and has such a vintage quality to it that I didn’t want to take away from it. So I tried doing the opposite and gave it a modern/futuristic feel with a whole new vibe to it. Very colorful, very danceable, very me.

While Rome in Silver utilizes similar funky elements to the initial version, he’s able to put a modernistic twist and completely make it his own. He goes straight into the hook but gives us a 30-second electric guitar interlude, about a minute and a half into the song. The vocal and dance breaks on Rome’s rendition are club-ready, while the prototype is more about storytelling. We think that both variants have their own charm. So we’re stoked we have the two of them.

As we get to see the different sides of Vinny Pisciotta, we can confidently say he’s full of pleasant surprises, and he consistently leaves us wondering what he’ll do next.
