I imagine it’s super difficult to bring TWENTY-THREE artists together to finish a track. They got Dabow, capshun, So Sus, and episcool, to name a few. Even label heads Gurf and Runnit make an appearance. Just run through the list yourself and see the undeniable talent. Dabow himself shares on Twitter, “partica got us all together to create the biggest collab I’ve been part of. and it bangs super hard. friday.” Partica really did that. And the, “it’s Patricia,” vocal sample towards the end was really playful and fun.

Onto my personal critique—and let’s preface this by me admitting that collaborations rarely do it for me, but I tried to keep my own bias aside and listen to ‘FRANKENSTEIN’ for what it is—and it’s a good track. However, while there are some great trap builds, for a song marketed as ‘trap 2’, its drops and most memorable moments are on the dubstep and experimental bass realm. The song that has some of the best trap producers right now, so that part was a bit disappointing for me. Additionally, for a Halloween track, the spooky factor could have been turned up a notch. The intro was haunting, but once it hit the 30-second mark, I forgot it was a Halloween track until the “Frankenstein” sample came in.

I also get that the real Frankenstein is having so many different producers bring a different part in to create a mammoth of a track, though. And overall, it’s cohesive and a great tune. ‘Outsiders’ begins with ethereal plucks in a wide, spacious atmosphere with rich percussion that quickly builds up energy to bust down the door at the drop. Filled with bouncing plucks that pitch up and down, gritty basses and top-notch percussion, Runnit and Shanghai Doom twist the track and create a Trap 2 banger that has the energy of a house track to get you moving. The second drop is filled with elements from the first drop, reconstructed with a new beat that manages to have the laid-back coolness of a hip-hop track with the raw power of a trap track. Shanghai Doom and Runnit have brilliantly fused their own styles and inspirations into a very cohesive track that is sure to have the underground flying the same banner.

‘Focus Cypher’ isn’t you’re average electronic trap song, as it doesn’t have a big drop that most people would expect, it’s a more hip-hop oriented track, as Runnit reflected, “I think what brings this track into the same realm as Trap 2 though is aggressive bouncy drum selection paired with the frequency shifting and sound design that’s going on behind the verses.” Anyone who is familiar with Runnit’s work knows that many of his tracks have hip-hop elements in his beats, but ‘Focus Cypher’ is largely hip-hop, through and through. Runnit said, “…I definitely started my journey producing hip hop tracks so it was only right to have one on the EP,” and it’s great to see artists showcase their backgrounds and origins from time to time.

I listen to Hip Hop in my daily routine whereas Some days I’m actually not listening to electronic stuff at all; I draw big influences from the classics like Tribe, Dre, Wu-Tang just as much as the new school shit out right now.

Runnit continues to push the envelope of the Trap 2 movement with ‘Focus Cypher’ and fans who enjoyed his Trap 2 take on hip-hop will be happy to know that there’s more to come. “I think you might see me on some production credits but maybe not any cyphers, we’ll see! I do have plans of getting together another ‘Mug Club Vol 2’ with a bunch of my producer friends, might have to get somebody on there for a verse too!” Runnit tells us. 2021 is only just getting started and we’re excited to see what else Runnit will be doing this year.

’50ONMYWRIST’ is an airy yet heavy sensation to the core. From gritty and playful bass leads, to a satisfying rhythm, this single holds many surprises within the outline.
