The biggest news of September was, of course, the first two-day edition of Symmetry Music & Arts Festival. Described by Ravescoon as “probably the best first-year fest I’ve ever been to“, Symmetry’s debut has been unanimously portrayed as a smashing triumph by the wave community. “It was bigger than I had ever hoped for in every way” tweeted Fyoomz, co-founder of the festival. “The stages were bigger. The sound hit harder and deeper. The entire community showed up for this event. Some folks told me it felt like a pilgrimage.” If my FOMO was already at all-time heights before the festival, the weeks after have proved to be even worse given all the videos and posts that flooded my social feeds. “Symmetry fest was incredible…no words” commented Remnant.exe, while Eastghost added “[Symmetry] utterly transformed this little town in Iowa into a meeting ground for impassioned specialists in their artistic field. The type of event I’d return to year after year”. It’s hard to find the right words to properly explain the sense of achievement that this festival meant for the whole wave movement. The don Plastician backed up the general enthusiasm certifying that is “amazing that the whole movement is now able to do this!” but it’s once again Fyoomz who delivered the most heartfelt take: “we are building something here with this. I really can only describe it in one word. Community. I am so grateful to everyone who showed up or showed their support in other ways. It was special because of your support.” You can watch clips from the festival ground on Symmetry’s Instagram page or listen to a full recap on the last episode of PLURality podcast.

As for September’s playlist, the spotlight is deservedly occupied by Sibewest and his brand-new album Fallout. Presented as “the epitome of the past year of my life, my condition, thoughts, attitude and inner struggle with myself. Self-disappointment, emptiness and weakness”, the project indeed sounds like an emotional autopsy that lays bare the Russian producer’s inner self. Conceived by Sibewest as a story divided into chapters, Fallout oscillates between moments of contemplation characterized by wave and ambient tropes, and tumultuous segments that embrace electro and post-rock influences. The ten songs compose a journey that unfolds through passions, nightmares, and epiphanies, and which serves Sibewest (and all of us) “as a reminder that even after the darkest times, the light ones will surely come“. Excluding the tracks already published during the rollout, ‘Thunder’ seems to have quickly become the fan favorite cut. If you don’t feel like listening to the whole album, this is a single not to be missed.

Other personal highlights among the thirty songs featured in the tracklist are MitraWave’s ‘Last Call’, vowl.’s ‘The End’, and ‘Gateway’ by HAIKU. This month we also have a solid remix and bootleg section courtesy of lvst, Førgøtten, DIGITAL ENTITY, MIRAJ, and Myrmax. rvnti’s wave arc keeps getting better and better as well as Heimanu’s recent release streak. Juche showed no signs of letting up and dropped three releases in September as well.

Out of the blue, MYSTXRIVL and Sokos decided to release (or re-release) their 2017 classic, ‘Pixel’, on SoundCloud. I have no idea if there is a deeper meaning behind this choice, but in the meantime, I didn’t miss the opportunity to sneak such a timeless masterpiece in between all the new releases.

It would take an entire book to exhaustively report what 2023 has been for the wave scene and perhaps there will be time for that in the future. For the sake of brevity, today it’s sufficient to remember that there have never been so many (and such big) wave events in a single year, the scene’s top artists have performed on four continents and, last but not least, the genre itself has continued its evolutionary path.

There was no shortage of major releases that raised the OG sound to new heights, but at the same time there was no lack of artists venturing into largely virgin territories where they mixed the wave approach with drum&bass, trance, house, planting the seeds for a promising future for the movement. To be remembered in the same way as its predecessor, 2024 will have to hold no small surprises in store for us. For the time being, I believe the premises are there. On my side, to help you keep track of all the music to be released in the next eleven months, I will compile a monthly summary with the best releases, here on FUXWITHIT.

Easier said than done. If the next months are anything like February, this will be one hell of a journey. To make amends for missing the January issue, I’m doubling down this month, but still, where can I start? cali.xo released her long-awaited EP ‘cry‘ at the beginning of the month, a suggestive project that alone would fill this list. Then Juche decided to show us no mercy, delivering one new release per week (one better than the others, of course), forcing me to make choices I didn’t want to make. He’s not alone though. Heimanu, Nick Neutronz, vowl, Kareful, Enjoii, Øtherside., all published multiple tracks this month as well. Then there’s Static Angel, who gifted us with one of her classic euphoric pieces, obey who went on remix duties on skeler’s ‘my fight‘, KENOK who managed to squeeze hardware, breaks and trance in a single track and MitroWave who dived into electroclash territories with his latest EP. And that’s not all.

Check the full playlist below.

OTHERWRLD has become a major empire within the underground. Their goal of showcasing up-and-coming artists to help conquer realms has succeeded greatly. Each release of theirs has done nothing but impress listeners from all over. Paving a major road of gold for themselves as well as their artists. Making them a name you won’t ever forget. To celebrate their one-year anniversary of success, they’ve just released their newest compilation, OUTBREAK 003. An exciting sixteen-track ride of the century. Comprised of some of the craziest and most talented musicians in electronic music right now!

Their first two compilations have exceeded great expectations with the colorful and diverse sounds of the future. And this newest one does not fail to achieve the same goal. Brand-new artists such as ryscu, SPORTMODE, Lynzz and many more have created individual works of pure mayhem. Each harnessing an energy different from the last while honoring the OTHERWRLD name in all its glory. From electronic trap, breakbeat, and even a touch of wave and house, this experience is just filled with ear-pleasing tones and rhythmic structures. Showing yet again why this label and movement is truly untouchable in vision and execution. Making this their most diverse and powerful group of tunes yet! So make sure to show your support by streaming OUTBREAK 003 everywhere via OTHERWRLD! We’re excited to hear more in the future.

When it comes to rvnti‘s art, sounds of the future are scribed in true poetic fashion. The beautiful compositions throughout his discography are nothing but impressive and mind-blowing. Making listeners fall into a deep trance through each piece. Transporting them to a dark, grimy, and complex utopia. Deep within a distant world not yet discovered. Integrating organic raw passion to fill your soul with a breath of fresh air. Helping many feel reborn within themselves while creating an eye-opening experience you haven’t experienced yet. From satisfying electronic trap, groovy house, and his iconic wave touch, rvnti is an artist you’ll forever want to remember. The detail he integrates makes you feel like a part of a cinematic masterpiece. Leaving you in complete tears from beginning to end.

Working with The Arcadium Project, Tribal Trap, and more, he’s continuing to aim for the top. Stopping at nothing from fulfilling his lifelong dreams and goals for his project. And as we embark on this personal sonic journey he’s created for us, you’ll easily feel your hearts elevate to the heavens. Feeling truly fulfilled and refreshed in every sense.

First, thank you so much for taking the time for this interview! How’ve you been so far?

It’s an honor! Been keeping up with this series for a while now and I’m grateful I get to be on one of these. I’ve been great just staying busy with work and finishing music.

What kind of adventure can listeners expect from this mix?

A heavily melodic mix for the most part, a lot of my favorite wave tunes as well as original and unreleased music from myself.

Tell us the origins of the rvnti project. What’s the meaning behind the name and how did it all come about?

It’s quite random how the name came up, but basically my last name is rantisi and in university one of my best friends would always call me ranti, so when I decided to start putting music out my instinct went with that name for some reason. My young self really liked the trend of playing with letters back then and I switched the ‘a’ to a ‘v’, although I grew from that phase I just stuck with the name as it still feels personal to me and my music.

I’m very inspired by film and more so by the idea of storytelling with music.

Your style is truly cinematic and eclectic to the highest degree. Tell us, are you heavily inspired by film or their scores?

I am happy you noticed that element! I’m very inspired by film and more so by the idea of storytelling with music. I always find myself inspired by artists that can articulate a certain feeling with their art that is relatable to life experiences.

When it comes to your craft, were you self-taught or did you have any guidance from friends in the beginning stages?

Yes I was self-taught. Everything I learned was through watching YouTube videos and just experimenting in the daw obsessively.

What kind of music did you grow up with and did those interests impact your style today?

Definitely, I grew up listening to a lot of melodic house and trance. I was very involved in soccer as a kid so I would always listen to trance on the way to a big game and it would get me excited and calms my nerves.

I have a collection of music that I would love to put out as an EP in the near future once all the things I planned for this year are over!

Your singles have been such treats for many within the underground. Any plans on creating an EP in the future?

I definitely have thought about that, I have a collection of music that I would love to put out as an EP in the near future once all the things I planned for this year are over!

The wave scene continues to grow and grow with every given second. Where do you see the environment heading in a couple of years?

I am so happy to see how the wave scene has grown the past few years. Seeing skeler, brothel and barnacle boi go on tour in the United States is so inspiring and a sign that the people are learning more about the genre. Many acts are going to start getting the love they deserve because the amount of talent coming from the underground scene right now is so amazing , and I am grateful I get to experience it.

Outside the music spectrum, are there any other interests you currently have a passion for that inspire your art?

Other than music, I have been focused on exercising and taking care of my body and it’s impacting my life in a very positive way not just physically but also mentally and artistically.

I feel like I found my home as an artist in the wave scene and hope to expose more people to the beauty of the scene and the genre.

Where do you see the rvnti project in a few years?

I have a lot of passion for this project and want to showcase my art and experiences with the world. I definitely have big plans and want to continue expanding my soundscapes and skill sets. I feel like I found my home as an artist in the wave scene and hope to expose more people to the beauty of the scene and the genre.

Are there any artists you’ve been admiring that deserve to be recognized?

Honestly, there are so many inspiring artists out there that deserve so much more love, I have been admiring sublab, altare, bafu, and yerbby to name a few.

A lot of my favorite music and collabs will be coming out this year and I can’t wait for you to hear it.

Any final words you’d like to share to our listeners out there?

A lot of my favorite music and collabs will be coming out this year and I can’t wait for you to hear it. Hope you enjoy the mix, and thank you so much for this opportunity. It actually feels surreal to speak with you and I look forward to connecting with you again soon!

Continuing to change the game and help out underground legends, The Arcadium Project has introduced their newest and exciting compilation, Anthisma. Filled with nothing but forward thinking rhythms, arrangements and overall paths to a gorgeous future. Perfect for anyone looking for organic and current talent.

Over the course of recent months, the label has done everything in their power to showcase unique and fresh new icons. Their vast roster of artists have paid homage to the their vision with every release. Each containing far out and forward-thinking qualities. And with this next step, musicians such as rSUN, FLØWERS, rvnti and more have all created individual pieces to commemorate how far they’ve all come as creative beings. You’ll be impressed and instantly surprised on what they have to offer to their audience. A perfect choice of heavy hitters.

The Anthisma compilation is a lush and colorful gateway. It shows a brand new side from everyone that’s a part of the project. Each track is a magical landscape of melodic greenery. Giving life to anyone who tunes in to listen and experience their journeys. From a glitch style memory given to us by rSUN, to a deeper dive into the unknown from Samma, you’ll have a pure smile on your face every step of the way. Not knowing what might happen next. An unexplainable gift of knowledge. Opening your eyes and ears to their creative process.

It’s as if you’re floating in a vast and calming stasis. Going with the flow and not worrying where it brings you. Falling madly in love with everyone’s style within the melodic side of electronic music. Sticking with you for a very long time. Every piece flows together smoothly in a freeing fashion.
