After a decade in the scene, Samsin is a lowkey legend. With a style that fuses jubilant future beats, knocking trap, wild samples, impeccable bounce, and a special storytelling signature, the producer has carved out a unique sonic lane. His talents have not gone unnoticed with an official remix for the legend Great Dane, plus releases on ADBC and Sundae Sauuce, not to mention his exceptional catalog of self-releases. We are longtime fans here at FUXWITHIT, so it is with great excitement that we present Samin’s debut on our label. ‘Jump’ expertly blurs the boundaries between golden-era future beats and banging trap.

Originally the song was gonna be called ‘Leapfrog’ and go on my next project I’ve been working on, but as the tape has evolved it didn’t really fit anywhere so it went to the vault. I imagine a frog jumping from each section of the song and those sections feel really springy and bouncy to me lol.”

Bouncy, bright, and brilliant – Samsin’s ‘Jump’ is yet another instant classic in the producer’s longstanding catalog. A short but mesmerizing introduction pulls listeners close before dropping into a masterful drop that layers booming bass, shimmering synths, snappy snares, and heavenly vocal bends. Lush pads score the break as sunshine fills the scene before the producer drifts into darker territory with the retooled drop. Building upon the existing elements it feels more menacing and fierce. With the synths echoing into the distance, the percussion drives the track forward before effortlessly flowing into the third unique drop that sees the most experimental exploration with some truly mind-blowing sound design and creative flourishes. Taking listeners on an enthralling bounce-filled journey, Samsin reminds fans why he’s an underground legend.

Honestly, I just want people to hear what I’ve been up to. There’s this weird nebulous space that a lot of SoundCloud cats exist in now. From my understanding none of us really stopped making music there just hasn’t been a space for us. I’m still here making nerdy bounce Ableton shit lol. I’m so deep in this music thing that I don’t see myself ever stopping.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Great Dane‘s latest offering Delta Fly was given the remix treatment from a selection of FUXWITHIT favorites. Handpicked by the big dog himself, these producers twisted and mangled the LP into a too hot to handle distant cousin. While some tracks bark and bite, others snuggle up and show your ears the unconditional love they deserve. Needless to say, these artists absolutely bodied it.

Upholding their unmistakable left-field sound design, sfam, um.., Elle and Blake Skowron bring the squishy, squanchy and crunchy palette on their flips of ‘Basshead’, ‘Free Money, Free Times’, ‘Wumper’ and ‘Former Friends’, delivering a new edge to the project. Each track bangs in it’s own lane, but if you really want to have your brain dismantled I especially recommend the 2:32 mark in Blake Skowron’s flip of ‘Former Friends’. Samsin and aedfx. bring some Carmack-esque heat to the table with their renderings of ‘Bank On Me’ and ‘We Get Up’ that keeps us coming back for more. ‘Bandz On Me’ gets an especially savory handling from the don UZ, giving the already radio-friendly original an elegantly executed melodic trap-rap spin. Even the dog daddy himself took the opportunity to breathe alluring new life into his track ‘Lonely Ones’ with Katya Grasso.

Great Dane took what was already a memorable album and enlisted the best talent from far and wide. The project makes an immaculate addition to ADBC Records growing catalog of superb variety and will stick with us for years to come. Take a listen or two (or eleven) and be sure to check out the impeccably diverse all-star lineup of producers that helped make this possible.

After years of sharpening his sound, the young samsin has blessed us with his debut EP suitably titled Afterlight. Finding a home as the first non-great dane release on his label, ADBC Records, this record explores a personable nook within his perpetually evolving sound. Having followed the producer fine-tuning his craftsmanship in future beats and trap for some time now, you can take it from us when we say that this one hits different.

If you could see sound, this EP would look like glimmering stars illuminating the night sky. Particularly evident in tunes like ‘tundra’ and ‘goodbye,’ the project reveals alluring, melodic elements tastefully woven into the quintessential samsin flow driven by engrossing 808s. Others such as ’12;59′ and ‘monday’ lean into the wavy, shimmery side of samsin’s style, while ‘goodmorning (interlude)’ takes the cake as the grooviest jazzy bump of the group. Expressive of ethereal reverberations and indistinguishable heat, this collection of tracks wonderfully highlights the growth in samsin’s musical journey. While we continue to enjoy the imaginative Afterlight, we can’t help but wonder what’s next in store for the young groove master.

The power of music never ceases to amaze. It can change your mood, make you move and even take you away. The latter is not an easy task but there are a select number of producers who’s music is truly transportational. An audio experience that stops time and takes you to a different location, planet or time. Few producers have mastered this talent as well as samsin. He first captivated my attention when ‘spectrum’ wandered onto my radar and I’ve been a fan ever since. Recent releases like ‘sanctuary’ and ‘stardust’ have showcased his talents, but his best work is still ahead of him. With a new EP nearly complete, we thought it was due time to catch up with samsin for a guest mix and interview. The mix is packed with a ton of his own originals including a few unreleased tunes off the upcoming EP and some of his favourite music. We also spoke to him about the upcoming project, how he tells stories with his music, what it was like when Mr. Carmack followed him and why he thinks Playboi Carti is the best rapper out.

Why do you make music?

I really like to have fun with music first and foremost. I just enjoy the creative process and making something that is uniquely mine. Music is also a huge escape for me, no matter what’s going on in my life I will always have music to turn to and be able to express my feelings and emotions sonically.

Are there any specific sounds or emotions you try to leverage throughout your work?

I like the idea of nostalgia and exploration. It’s hard to describe but I like to put people somewhere else when they listen to my music because that’s what it is for me.

I like to imagine each song existing in its own world. Every time I make a track I try to build the atmosphere with the sounds I choose to use

A lot of your songs feel like they have a deep connection to the natural world. Is this a fair assessment?

Yeah for sure! I like the idea of space and forests a lot. Mixing natural feelings with futuristic sounds is something I have always been trying to do through music. I don’t really go outside but I like watching fantasy movies like LOTR and GOT.

You’ve tagged a number of your releases as storytelling. How do you communicate stories musically? Do you have a certain story line in mind before working on a song?

I like to imagine each song existing in its own world. Every time I make a track I try to build the atmosphere with the sounds I choose to use. It rarely has been like preconceived stories but each song just kind of writes itself. I’ve never been able to like make what’s in my head I kinda just go with whatever feels right. Then the story kind of just shows up and I always have a moment where the beat becomes a song and the song becomes a story in its own little world.

It’s taken me years to get to this spot and I’m soooooo excited to put it out. Best way I can describe it is imagine you’re thousands of light years away on a different planet and each song is a pit stop on the way home.

How’s the EP coming along? What does it sound like?

The EP is basically done. I can’t stop tweeting about it because I’ve never had this many songs done and ready to put out at one time. It’s taken me years to get to this spot and I’m soooooo excited to put it out. Best way I can describe it is imagine you’re thousands of light years away on a different planet and each song is a pit stop on the way home.

Mr. Carmack recently followed you on SoundCloud. What was your immediate reaction when you saw the notification? Has he reached out at all?

I was in a Chinese restaurant and I saw the email and honestly thought it was just some account that had the same name or something like a joke. I opened the SoundCloud app to check and instantly just felt so happy. I left a big ol tip to pay the feeling forward, went to my car, called my friend, and then on the way home I was just thinking about how 16 yo me would think if I told him that it had just happened lol. He hasn’t reached out but honestly just the fact he likes my shit is enough for me LOL.

You’ve been releasing music on your secondary sinsam account. What prompted you to create the account?

I have a pretty specific idea for what the samsin project is and I just kinda started making more hip hop lo-fi esque beats and wanted to put them out somewhere that wasn’t my main page but wasn’t just like a dump account. I want the sinsam thing to be like an alter ego type thing.

You recently tweeted “playboi carti is the best rapper of our generation this is not sarcasm.” Can you please elaborate on this hot take?

I absolutely believe he is. Its close between lil uzi for sure but imo no one makes rap music that is as fun to listen to as carti. Rap is in its punk phase right now and I think carti is leading the way in terms of like alternative rap. I think his shit is so cool and you can tell he just has fun making the songs.

This is actually the first guest mix I’ve ever done so I just wanted to put a bunch of the EP in it…

What are you studying in school? Do you enjoy it?

I’m studying Music Technology. Its alright we aren’t allowed to use Ableton which is annoying because Pro-Tools is such a shit program in my opinion. Also I’m a terrible student I having to do shit that isn’t interesting to me but I digress.

Tell us a little bit about the mix. If this mix were a story, what would the title and tagline be?

This is actually the first guest mix I’ve ever done so I just wanted to put a bunch of the EP in it and some stuff that I have been listening to a lot as well as some stuff I usually play live. I’d say the title should be: “Music That Sam Likes.” Tagline: “This Music is Cool”

Despite the constant hate that SoundCloud receives, it is still by far the best platform for music discovery. Every month we find a slew of new artists that completely amaze and win us over. With this in mind, we decided to launch a new feature that brings our monthly finds to the forefront. Today marks the first edition of Focus Five, a collaborative feature from Colin & Oggie. Each month we’ll be showcasing five fantastic new finds and let you know why you need to be listening them. This month we’ve got a nice cross section: from multi-genre producers, to cinematic future beat-makers and wall-shaking bass producers. Check the list below and let us know your favorites.

Gladez

You know the feeling where it seems everyone you follow is suddenly reposting that one artist? Last month that artist was Gladez. It started with ‘Mile High Club’ but happened again with his ‘Olé’ remix. While the former caught my attention, it was the latter that put me on notice. Flipping a track that massive is no easy feat but Gladez’s remix of ‘Olé’ not only did the original justice but took it to new heights. If aggressive, wall-shaking bass music is your shit, Gladez is your guy.

MEMBA

My introduction to NYC duo MEMBA came with their most recent release ‘Middle Man‘ and while I was blown away, I only became further flummoxed by their slew of head spinning sounds. They say their production style sees “world-influenced exploration of rhythm,” but I’m not sure what world they’re referring to, because even in this golden age of electronic music, I’ve never heard anything tweaked quite this way. The vocals from Asher Don in the aforementioned track are excellent, but it’s not a one off for MEMBA, who are undeniably adept at building beds for ballads and bops alike. Explore their awesome range in curated playlists of their own productions ‘Dutty‘ and ‘Calm.’
–OJ

nine plus

I first came upon nine plus with his phuture collective release ‘Into The Sun’. The pairing of stunning and intoxicating vocals with an aggressive and massive trap energy was spellbinding. In the span of a month he’s since released two more exceptional tracks that not only highlight his talents but also his versatility. ‘This Way?’ draws inspiration from Sam Gellaitry without feeling too similar. It’s groovy and uplifting with just the right amount of bounce. ‘End Game‘ finds itself between the two. A deep space slapper with just a touch of upbeat undertones. With just over a thousand followers on SoundCloud, it’s still early days for the producer, but we expect those numbers to explode in the near future.

samsin

Every so often you hear a song that completely mesmerizes you; where music shifts from the background of what ever it is you’re doing and becomes the only thing that exists for a short period. This is what happened the first time I heard samsin. ‘Spectrum’ entered my ears and invited my mind into another world. Cinematic, entrancing and foreign yet familiar. It was like taking a trip to an exotic locale that also instantly felt like home. There’s a thread of magic that runs through Samsin’s music; an intangible energy and beauty that you just feel. Don’t believe me? Just listen to ‘Forest Floor‘ and ‘Augment’.
–C

underscores

It’s not often you come across an artist that 1) is capable of producing quality chill funk and aggressive bass cuts and 2) finds it unnecessary to divide those sounds into two distinct projects or monikers, but that’s the case with underscores. You never quite know what you’re going to get from him, whether it be the most metallic and mean bass bangers like ‘the city with no wind‘ or fun funky and groove of ‘twisted lines‘, there’s always the underlying quality of underscores. There’s dozens of options to illustrate his musical majesty, but let us offer these two awe-inspiring, enigmatic instances: ‘pause’ and ‘the niche market,’ a mashup of 84 (EIGHTY FOUR!) sounds and tracks, video below.
–OJ

To make exploring these exceptional artists even easier we crafted a special playlist for you below.

Words by Colin & Oggie James. List is in alphabetical order.
