Staying relevant for the better part of a decade in any genre is no small feat, but one that Stylust (formerly known as Stylust Beats) has handled with endless grace and poise. Attaining true legend status as one of the most anticipated sets yearly at the Village Stage at Shambhala Music Festival, his “hotbox the village” extravaganza aims to be nothing but a hazy good time for all involved. In the past few years, he’s opened up his own platform to showcase the exceptional talents of burgeoning artists with the creation of his own label, Sleeveless Records, which grows bigger every day. Now, he’s taking 2021 by storm with his first release of the year, ‘Move Like Dat’, a massive heater of a collab with the ever-impressive Costa Rican Jleon.

An airy opening very reminiscent of sounds one might find in a tropical jungle paradise where this particular piece was birthed, ‘Move Like Dat’ flaunts an overarching sense of mystery and adventure that excites the senses and invigorates the bones. Swiftly adding in drums and a saucy vocal sample “why you wanna move like dat,” listeners will be moving and grooving to their hearts’ content, busting out only the wildest of dance moves for this particular sonic occasion. The basslines are sultry, the vocals are saucy, and ‘Move Like Dat’ is overall a damn good time, and should be rejoiced by a wide-range of music fans within the community-at-large. Check it out for yourself below!

Nestled in the South American paradise that is Costa Rica, Ariel Benavides, formerly known by his Veizzik production alias, is on track to have arguably the best year of his career in 2020, spearheaded by a rebranding to his new Brainwavez project. Coming straight for the dome, his aim is to stimulate your mind with otherworldly assortments of cleverly crafted bass concoctions, with maximum energy and aesthetic pleasure at the forefront of his mission. Teaming up with the fine folks at Sleeveless Records, he’s found a comfy home to nurture his burgeoning career and truly hone his artistry. It’s only fitting then that he would release his debut EP Sick In The Head through them, and we’ve had the great pleasure of premiering the immense banger ‘Free For All’ for your listening pleasure right here on FUXWITHIT.

As soon as you dip your toes in to this cavernous pool of swampy, grimy goodness that is ‘Free For All’ you’ll be immediately stuck like quick sand, quickly descending further into the madness. Feeling like the wind just got knocked out of you, the first drop will leave you completely breathless, a cacophony of “OOF” the only discernible phrase being uttered. The constant inclusion of little elements that create a palpable sense of space makes each bass line hit that much harder, forming an almost whip-like motion that thrusts your body aggressively in any direction it can muster. Showcasing some of the most satisfying sound design in recent memory, ‘Free For All’ is a delight to the ears, and a burden to anyone that is against all-out brawls. A sure-fire sign of big things to come, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear this track being rinsed by some of the biggest head honchos in the entire industry. Check out the brutality of ‘Free For All’ for yourself below!

Portland based Chris Morley, or CRIMES, has been pumping out alien-esque gangster beats for the better part of the past decade for some of the biggest bass labels in the game including Ivy Lab’s 20/20 LDN Recordings, Buygore, Saturate Records, BASSRUSH, and Craze’s Slow Roast Records. Now, he’s had the great opportunity to release his latest 50 Deep EP with Stylust’s esteemed Sleeveless Records, and we’ve had the great pleasure of premiering the savage title track ’50 Deep’ here on FUXWITHIT.

’50 Deep’ is a bass lover’s wet dream, thrusting purring low-end into your ear canals that hits oh so nicely. To say that this song will strongly increase your urge to move is an understatement, as you can practically feel your atoms vibrate at a higher frequency, filling your body with a joyful yet primal euphoria that forces you to become a human bobblehead at a bare minimum. Forget needing a Redbull to get through that arduous shift at work, just bump this bad boy at max volume and feel your pupils dilate and electricity fill every facet of your being. The arrangements make this hypnotic sense of space that pulls your body back and forth like a Yoyo, making each kick thump that much harder and adds emphasis on beats that wouldn’t even seem stale without it. This gliding effect between notes is what makes this piece so energetic, as your body acts like a puppet along with the satisfying thwacks. All these added touches equate to a song that is just a down right good time to listen to.

CRIMES has already stated he’s working on tracks for next year, and if ’50 Deep’ is any indication of what he’s sitting on, all fans of bass music are in a for a large communal treat. Make sure to check out ’50 Deep’ for yourself below!

In the past two years, Benjamin Kowta has found a welcoming home amongst the members of Sleeveless Records, spearheaded by the long-time bass music veteran Stylust (formerly Stylust Beats). Bringing his unique concoction of fun and energetic sounds to the table, he’s already had the opportunity to perform for audiences at Emissions Festival, the Untz, and internationally at Bamboo Bass Festival in Costa Rica. Now we’re blessed with his third release of the year, a very dancey remix to Stylust’s ‘Flexx’.

The first difference you’ll notice right away between the original ‘Flexx’ and Kowta’s take on it, are that the latter is much more upbeat, with notes practically skipping into the next, rather than the original where it feels each note takes its time settling and getting its footing before hopping to the next. You can equate Kowta’s remix to playing hopscotch as a kid, with each foot gliding gracefully and quickly from square to square, and Stylust’s to jumping in puddles, where you land firmly and absorb the impact. This will surely be a song that gets fans’ limbs sent into an absolute frenzy of yoga contortions.

Check out Kowta’s rework of ‘Flexx’ for yourself below and presave the full remix EP.

Saturate Records, a bass music label based in Hamburg, Germany that started in 2010, has come together with Stylust’s (formerly Stylust Beats) Sleeveless Records to bring the world Saturated Warriors, a sweltering new compilation album featuring heavy-hitters from all around.

Both labels pride themselves on only putting out the freshest music, always catering to the counter-culture crowds and only accelerating with the times. Over the years, Saturate and Sleeveless have had releases from some of the current biggest names in the bass-music scene, including Herobust, G Jones, Zeke Beats, Conrank, Shlump, and more. Finding their niche in giving young talent a platform, these labels have become a home for young producers that aren’t afraid to experiment.

Saturated Warriors is a 14 track groove fest that makes it hard to stay still. Featuring tracks from Esseks, Stylust, Pigeon Hole, Crimes!, Toadface, and more, this is an audible buffet for any fan of experimental beats. The biggest standout of the compilation is easily the production value, as each song has been expertly manicured to perfection, with thick low-end and rich body throughout. Not a single note falls flat.

In terms of originality, my favorite is ‘Whales vs. Crickets’ by Jimmy Pé. Just as the title hints, the first drop is a massive trap banger with drawn out notes, a fitting “whale,” and the 2nd drop is extremely minimalist, giving the listeners ears a feeling of much more open space, a perfect “cricket.” A duo to keep your eye on is Donkong, who add ‘Chinese Cycling’ to the fray. The 2nd drop really took me by surprise and had a wonderful amount of flow. Pigeon Hole contribute ‘We Run U’, which has delightfully catchy vocals that go perfectly with the vibe of the beat, continuing their hot streak of releases. Oh and don’t miss ‘On Lock’ from THRPY and DJ Ride which we had the honour of premiering last week.

Even though each artist has their own individual style, they accentuate one another so well that a consistent vibe is curated throughout, a feat not easy to accomplish with such a far-reaching genre. To say that this first compilation album is a success would be an understatement, and this fan is surely waiting for another to come.
