New Zealand and Portland unite as ASHEZ & SØMETHING come together for the epic bouncy banger ‘COAST2COAST.’ Both artists are renowned for their forward-thinking approach and impeccable sound design. On their latest, they effortlessly fuse their technical prowess with an undeniable addictive twerk bounce and a West Coast energy. With three different drops, the track never stagnates, staying fresh and mind-blowing while maintaining an approachable and dancey aesthetic. The vocals, “Coast to coast I rock it, most times don’t sweat,” serve as the cornerstone and maximize the replay value. “It was fun to do a more lighthearted bass song after fucking around with gratuitous theatrics all year haha that’s what makes it such a good addition to those dark bassy sets to split up the vibes and get ppl dancing,” SØMETHING tell us.

We caught up with ASHEZ to get a bit more insight into how this one fully came together.

This collab was a really fun one to work on, I started off with a loop that was pretty similar to the first drop. I sent that through to Joseph and he sprinkled in all his unique sounds and the track came to life! The 2nd drop is pretty much Joe messing with the 1st original loop I sent, and then the 3rd drop is me messing with the 2nd drop he sent me, so it was like we were remixing each others loops haha. – ASHEZ

If you’re missing the club scene as much as us, then have no fear. SØMETHING will bring the club to you with their newest EPVIII. The bounce legend has once again blessed our ears with some groovy trap music. The amount of passion and love for the underground is strong within this project. It features two brand new tracks along with one they released three months ago. Don’t be fooled though, it’s not going easy on the energy. For within, holds some intricate and advanced thinking in terms of drums, arrangement and sound design.

SØMETHING really gave it everything on this project. The first track we hear is called ‘ION001’ featuring returning collaborator KAREZZA. With their past song impressing many, it’s really awesome to see these two back together for more. This one has everything you ever wanted within a track in this style. Hard-hitting drums, a nasty lead for attitude and an overall fun adventure. A genius way to introduce VIII.

Next up, is a piece called ‘BAMBI.’ This one was especially interesting for the atmosphere by itself. Imagining the possibilities out there thanks to the power of melody and feeling. The whole introduction is one big trip. Their way of panning the soft and lush vocal really compliments it all. While still managing to throw in those nasty drums. Completing the download of satisfaction. This style mixed with such an experimental space works perfectly. A great way to show evolution within their work.

Finally, SØMETHING takes a bow with a track called ‘FULCRUM.’ If you hear it when it was first releases, here’s your chance to get in on the hype. It takes no prisoners with the groove, sound design and little details which go a long way. Knocking you back in your chair, blown away every second. From the distorted bass lead, to the whimsical effects, SØMETHING made sure to end this EP on a very high note.

Through the success, SØMETHING continues to take their vision higher than ever before. Make sure to go support him by streaming VIII.

It’s time to gather around and witness greatness. With Kumarion‘s single, ‘Want It’ blowing up everywhere, it was imminent to predict there would be a remix EP honoring the original. And now it’s finally here! You definitely don’t want to sleep on this explosive package of talent. This specific project showcases some of the hottest new underground talent out there.

Artists such as Guppi, SØMETHING, Xotix and much more have taken up the challenge to tackle this great anthem and sprinkle their flare onto it. Each musician gave it their all and showed everyone what they’re made of. From trap, house and even drum n bass, they not only served the original justice, but also the genres themselves. One artist in particular who really caught our ear was SØMETHING’s remix. Adding his groovy trap rhythms is a perfect execution when working on this. His deep bass leads cut through the competition in style. Turning it into his own club heater. Him and all the others were perfect choices.

The Want It remix EP has a ton of gems and ear candy laying deep inside. Containing surprises around every corner. This and the original song will go down as one of the most memorable underground electronic tracks of the year. A beautiful push for the movement no doubt. Do yourselves a favor and check out this group of remixes and see which ones you’ll be addicted to. We’re excited to see what’s next for Kumarion as well as Jadū Dala.

Bass music extraordinaire, SØMETHING and Karezza have blessed our ears with their new collaboration ‘RICH GURL.’ SØMETHING is an artist who continues to amaze listeners with their groovy and funky production style. Every track released includes different and unique properties. From impactful bass design, to hypnotizing rhythms, it’ll have music lovers start dancing instantly. Having released on Partica Artist Group, Quality Goods Records and more, SØMETHING has been making major moves. Up and coming artist, Karezza is working hard as well. You won’t want to sleep on this musician. His way of manipulating different qualities of sound into addicting compositions is astonishing. And to have him on the track makes this dynamic duo a dangerous force.

‘RICH GURL’ is a sweet filled aroma created out of hard-hitting drums and god like sound design. Another special quality is the song pays tribute to Gwen Stefani’s original song, ‘Rich Girl.’ What an ingenious way of flipping a classic into a club banger. Experiencing their teamwork coming together is exciting and inspiring to say the least. Working around Gwen’s vocals, they know how to keep the listener invested and feeling alive. Every second there’s a special surprise waiting thanks to their innovative way of thinking when producing. When you hear the chorus kick in, it’ll leave you with a big smile on your face continuing throughout the rest of the song.

‘RICH GURL’ is a solid composition. SØMETHING and Karezza went out of their way to create a unique and memorable experience for everyone.

Can you give us a glimpse into what you brought to this mix? Any special unreleased or tracks you really enjoy?

This is a strictly 100bpm mix consisting mainly of my own unreleased tracks and a few tunes from other artists who have cool 100 flows like Karezza and Jeffrey MMVIII. It also includes my ‘Want It’ remix and a track I created for a Japanese film.

You sample a lot of old school, classic hip hop vocals in your tracks, would you say you draw a lot of inspiration from that era?

Absolutely but, in reality the tracks I’m sampling weren’t considered “old school” when I was a teenager going to shows, cuz those were older DJ’s playing/sampling the 90’s hip-hop from THEIR childhood. 50 and Lil Jon excluded, I didn’t really start hearing the mid-2000’s throwbacks at the club until like 2016. I specifically like the hip-hop that’s sort of been embedded in the dance scene like Missy Elliot, Crime Mob, Dem Franchize Boyz, The Pack, Rye Rye.

So 100bpm. What is the obsession?

I was producing a lot of music at 100bpm before I ever paid attention to what BPM I was working at. I just liked the bounce and the versatility, the fact that you could make it sound slow or fast.

House, dubstep, DnB, midtempo, and halftime sorta all have their respective tempo ranges. 100bpm is a little more spread out. It can span from glitch-hop to moomba, but when you do trap at 100bpm it either becomes twerk or bounce music. During the Trap1 boom in 2012-2014 you had plenty of twerk artists like Bro Safari, Brillz, Kid Kamillion, and Yellow Claw but the sub-genre aged more poorly than the OG trap music itself. Meanwhile I always thought that was the sickest music so I’m attempting to take the baton and run with a Trap2 iteration of twerk music.

Your tunes have a very distinct sound to them, from the vocals you use to your drops, I can tell almost instantly when it’s your track. How long did it take for your sound to develop?

I’ve been producing for over half my life but once I decided to double down on bass music I’d say my sound developed very quickly over the course of a year or two. When people describe “my sound” they’re generally talking about the bounce and recurring sounds I sample in every track, but other than that I can’t really speak on how I sound distinct because it’s not exactly something I do intentionally. I’m not trying to sound different, I’m actually genuinely trying to fit in and sound like everyone else and am just failing miserably.

Has Covid-19 affected any of your plans?

I am very fortunate to say I didn’t have a lot on my calendar. For once I am somewhat grateful nobody wants to book me.

How have you been surviving mentally during quarantine? TV shows, projects?

When it comes to TV shows I’ve been really inspired by some of the animators from Love, Death, & Robots. Zima Blue put me onto Robert Valley and Robert Valley put me onto Peter Chung, all with really beautiful animation styles. When it comes to surviving mentally I’ve realized if I don’t get to dance every once in a while I’ll start to waste away so if you play a virtual fest in the next months chances are I’m across the country dancing alone in my room without pants on.

Portland is a crazy place with the BLM movement and feds storming the place recently. How are you holding up? Are there any changes this brought in your life?

As terrifying as it is to live where a volatile police force and shady federal agents are being used as a literal army against protestors, it has also been incredible to witness my city’s continuous passion and dedication to justice. The feds were removed a few weeks ago and demonstrations have been peaceful.

You release a lot of your tracks on the 13th of the month. Is 13 your lucky number or is there another reason for this?

I was born on Friday the 13th! Growing up my brothers teased that I was cursed with bad luck and I believed them. Later I learned 13 is only recently a symbol of bad fortune in Western culture. In reality, it’s a really powerful number in art being part of the fibonacci sequence and completing an octave in a chromatic scale.

Outside of your music, you also make your own animations. Is your animation process similar to making your music or do you find other inspiration?

The music and this animated world are really closely related as I sorta build them around each other. It’s an animated world I’d think my music would live in. I’d say the music and the animations are both reflections/recontextualization of past experiences.

Tell us more about the avatar you’ve created. You’ve given them a dope world in your animations, do you have a backstory for them?

Without wanting to give too much away, Lucky is a sort of caricature of myself who exists across a few different realities, one being an instance of earth where music is illegal. She also dresses a lot better than me.

You recently released ‘Clover’ on Quality Goods Records, was that a goal of yours for a long time? Any more labels you would like to release on?

Just Sable Valley, Slow Roast, and DeadBeats but those are probably a ways away.

If you got to eat dinner with anybody in the world, alive or dead, who would it be and why?

My girlfriend cuz she is so cool and has a fat ass.

SØMETHING has been a FUXWITHIT favorite for a hot minute now; with their unique style of 100 bpm trap-like tracks, they have given us tons of booty workin bangers to get down too. Jefferey MMVIII is a new name for us, but a quick peep into his SoundCloud offers an electric selection of future beats, trap and more, which are all insanely clean and well-produced. The twerking hasn’t gone unnoticed by one of Trap’s biggest stars, UZ, and his label, Quality Goods Records, which is where SØMETHING and Jefferey MMVIII have brought the party next, with their new track, ‘Clover’.

‘Clover’ begins with a mysterious ambiance, glitchy percussion, ethereal synths, and orchestral elements that amplify the build through the roof. When ‘Clover’ drops, you are stomped in the face with flurry of deep wubs and contrasting robotic growls that are supported by sliding, stabbing synths. Without missing a beat, SØMETHING and Jefferey MMVIII give us a second drop that plays off the original melody, which really speaks to how seasoned these producers are. After a brief reprise, the two producers bring us back for a third round and deliver an absolutely energized drop where they hold nothing back. ‘Clover’ shows that SØMETHING and Jefferey MMVIII are producers to watch.

Be sure to check out ‘Clover’ below

Every once in a while you come across an artist with a wholly original sound, banging tracks and you can hear that there’s something special in their productions. That’s what you get when you listen to SØMETHING. The Portland, Oregon based producer/visual artist has been dropping a new track on the 13th of each month and their March release really hits all the spots. Titled ‘Pistons,’ SØMETHING pumps up the jams and delivers an absolute party starter.

SØMETHING has a habit of producing around 100bpm, which is odd for trap, but they pull it off masterfully and ‘Pistons’ is no exception. Starting with a dreamy atmosphere and a thick groove, SØMETHING immediately catches your ears and pulls you in before blasting you out of a laser cannon. SØMETHING manages to keep the groove and danceability of the track to a maximum, which is hugely impressive and adding the 50 cent samples are the perfect touch. SØMETHING has been making some of the most unique club bangers right now and ‘Pistons’ is an excellent example of what SØMETHING is about.

Be sure to check out ‘Pistons’ below and watch out for SØMETHING’s next release.

Portland, Oregon’s Sømething has been making quite the name for himself as of late, thrusting delectable productions into the ever-awaiting ears of fans of the whole spectrum of trap and bass music. His collaboration with Jordnmoody ‘FIU‘ made the cut for our top 50 tracks of 2019, sitting comfortably at our #42 spot. If there’s anything that’s certain about this steadily rising producer, it’s that his beats will get your atoms vibrating at incredible rates, and your bones grooving in ways you didn’t even know possible. His latest piece, ‘Ghost,’ continues his immaculate onslaught of dance domination.

‘Ghost’ is one of those songs that once you throw it on, the energy in the room instantly takes a wild turn. Utilizing arguably some of the cleanest bass elements I’ve heard coming out of the underground scene, this track will be on constant replay for even the most picky of audiophiles. You’ll be quickly entranced, with your hips unconsciously starting to gyrate, and your face contorting into a mischievous grin of sheer delight. Make sure to have your local fire department’s hotline number on speed dial, because this track is excessively hot. Many people have used the term “this goes” as of late for tracks they believe are fire, but where exactly do those tracks “go”? Well, I can’t speak for the others, but this one is surely going in your “tracks I want to rinse every single day” playlist. Forget regular gasoline for your car, just put your speaker up to the gas tank and have this bad boy pumping at full blast.

Make sure to keep Sømething firmly on your radar for the rest of the year, and for now check out ‘Ghost’ for yourself below and catch the free download here!

SØMETHING has been popping up on our radar more and more often, with his recent collaboration, ‘FIU’ with jordnmoody getting our seal of approval, we’ve been keeping our ears to the ground for his releases. Bringing a unique style of low-key bass music bangers, SØMETHING has been hard at work in the studio and it’s clearly paying off. His newest track, ‘G5,’ which has been making its rounds in his sets for minute, finally sees the light of day.

‘G5’ starts with playful female vocals and crashing percussion that drops into a thick sub bass that wiggles around the track so quickly that you’re left with no option but to drop everything and look at your speakers to make sure you’re hearing this correctly. ‘G5’ switches from a deep sub bass into a high pitched whistle, but it still holds the same amount of groove and wonk. SØMETHING manages to keep ‘G5’ scaled down production-wise, but continues to make absolutely slapping tracks, which is massively impressive.

Listen to ‘G5’ below and be sure to follow SØMETHING for what he drops next.

If you’re not familiar with Myopic Sounds or Partica Artist Group, I hate to tell you, but you’re missing out on some of the best up and coming trap in the scene right now. Myopic Sounds is an LA based collective that started releasing tracks 6 months ago, but have an incredible selection of 31 tracks to date. Partica Artist Group has an insanely stacked roster, boasting names like Runnit, GURF, and XTALS; each release is better than the last. Both groups are steadily churning out jaw-dropping tracks, and with such a similar taste in trap music, a collaborative compilation only seemed natural. Each track on the ‘Myopic vs. Partica – All Star Compilation’ is a hit, and the entire compilation is an absolute home run.

Runnit and Litty McGuire’s wonky banger ‘LETIGO‘ is a perfect introduction to the compilation, giving listeners a high energy track to fully let themselves go. GURF and ZCR’s ‘FIGHT’ is an eerie step into a dark dimension that delivers a knockout punch. ‘GAMMA’ by XAVIER and U.O.ME overload their systems and pour out a thick bass banger that is sure to rock any speaker. RAFTYR and SIXPATHS’ ‘PULL UP’ is a wiggly bass track that weaves through immense sound design. Finally, jordnmoody and sømething craft an absolutely out of this world banger on, ‘FIU’, with hypnotizing soundscapes and an intoxicating energy, it’s one of the standouts on the compilation.

The entire compilation is available to stream, and you can download it for free here.
