Every now and then, I find myself diving deep into the mesmerizing rabbit hole that is Sorrow‘s discography. The Bristol-based artist is among the few who can navigate different styles of UK garage and its various offshoot genres with expert-level execution, bringing listeners on a roller coaster of emotions with every new release. Consistently among my top artists of the year, Sorrow’s catalogue is timeless, and despite being relatively quiet over the last couple of years, his tracks always stand the test of time.

Back in June, I tweeted wondering what the veteran artist had been up to, and to my great surprise, he responded with a short yet curiosity-inducing comment. Nothing materialized shortly after that tweet, but it seems Sorrow did not want to go a full calendar year without releasing a new track, opting to drop a brand new single titled ‘Come Over’ on Christmas Day. In his words, “I teamed up with Elle Chante to put together a poppy garage tune that’s more suited to summertime, but we were unable to get it out at the time so Xmas seemed a good time to put it out.”

Simply put, ‘Come Over’ is everything one could want from Sorrow. Not overly complicated in its ideas but engineered to perfection, the track is silky smooth, with crisp percussion and a groovy sub providing a clean backdrop for Elle Chant’s angelic vocals. Progressing naturally, the piece is uplifting and catchy, with each element tying the track together beautifully. Stick around for the second half to experience Sorrow’s production mastery, as the added layers of bass contribute to the magnificence of the track.

The best part about this release is that Sorrow has promised “more music in the pipeline.” Until then, let ‘Come Over’ tide you over.
