From OMNOM  kicking off the compilation in Tech My House Vol. 4 with the first single ‘Skinny Jeans’ featuring Techno Tupac, this one is about to make listeners lose full control of their minds as the talented artists shift levels between slow-tempo frequencies, heavy bass notes, and luring vocal chops to craft a melody so sweet to the ears. Getting even darker into the Space Yacht compilation, Galo delivers an enticing, yet irresistibly groovy tune with ‘Get Another Love.’ Immediately a tune to rinse during their late-night afterparties until the sunrise, Galo is not playing around with this one. With a series of hidden gems including Point Set’s ‘Olive A Sudden,’  Kimba’s ‘Backwards Magic,’ and a personal favorite of eta’s ‘IDK,’ Space Yacht did not disappoint with this one, as usual.

Compiled from submissions to Space Yacht’s Tune Reactor Twitch stream, ‘Tough House Vol. 1’ champions an emerging genre that falls somewhere in between bass-house, electro, and UK bassline. Kicking off at the ideal pace from Detroit-bred Qlank, ‘All Night’ seamlessly incorporates the beauty of tech-house with glitches of madness and rough basslines to ignite the party. Moving into a state of progressive house with Space Yacht veteran Whenuknow, ‘Where U Go’ is a mesmerizing single which flows directly into classic breaks and soothing percussions to craft an electro-synth melody that we cannot get enough of. A personal favorite of mine off the compilation is from no other than Capozzi who definitely knows how to work the crowd ‘Back N Forth.’ The producer’s foolishly dark and unforeseen instrumentals are enriched in this new single signaling that those endless nights are about to get a little wonky.

With the compilation filled with hidden gems crafted from producers such as Capozzi, ON POINT, CASHEW, Code Red, and many more talented artists, Tough House is definitely one of the most exciting new dance music movements and Space Yacht has the evidence to back this up.

This throwback to electronic music’s early days, where the dance floors were mostly warehouse cement and the music was what lured fans in- not hype, not laser shows, nor Instagram photoshoots, is refreshing to the veteran fans’ ears. 

First up is ‘Beware’, and it’s aptly named to put the listener on alert to what is about to come their way. This killer track opens up the EP with a steady beat, cold snares, and playful synths that drum up the drama. The vocals are intriguing with their operatic crescendos and spooky, spell-like lyrics. ‘Beware’ is not just the opener, but definitely the meat and potatoes of a playlist or set that can hype up a crowd and set the scene for a big night out. Its classic sound satiates while its more intriguing elements keep it fresh and crisp. 

The title track, ‘There is No End’ goes the hardest with this vibe, pushing the boundaries of rhythm, transitions, and melody. With its hard edges, this track really emphasizes the style of stitching sound but also incorporates the liberty of the digital age of music by collecting sounds that are from either end of the spectrum; both futuristic and animalistic. 

The final track of the EP, ‘The Ritual’ isn’t hard to imagine filling the voluminous cavern of an industrial party, or blaring through a darkened forest where ravers meet up to indulge in sound, beats, and whatever party favors may be on the menu. ‘The Ritual’ has a sooty hum that vibrates throughout the booming bass lines and it dances with the eerie synths that could very well be the sound that flying saucers make before abducting you. It’s an in-your-face sort of sound that any die-hard raver would lean into. 

HELLBOUND!’s There is No End EP shows off his style well and highlights how electronic music producers can still push boundaries in music while calling us back to a different era. It’s like a way of remembering the past, reinventing the future, and keeping the spirit of the genre alive for newer generations.

If you haven’t already heard, Space Yacht is a music collective focused on bringing the best of dance music to music fans through events, apparel, and now with the launch of the record label in 2020, they have been giving us new music. Space Yacht lassoed techno connoisseur HELLBOUND! to curate the EP and it is he who is calling this time a ‘”pivotal moment in dance music”. Making it his mission to revive the fundamental rave sounds that manifested today’s dance music scene, HELLBOUND! has swiftly established himself as a force in the American techno community. 

“I believe we’re at a pivotal point in time in dance music, and it’s incredibly important for good teams to join forces and push these sounds in the states…Strength in numbers is very real. It’s been my mission over the past couple of years to really drive the techno sound in America as much as possible, so this compilation was a ton of fun to work on. It features some of my favorite up and coming acts in the space with ZERO SKIPS. Ready for the club, warehouse, or festival stage.” – HELLBOUND!

HELLBOUND! targeted techno artists for The Black Hole Vol 1 who are his contemporaries in the scene and even acted as the ultimate curator in this collection, selecting for sounds that both excite and resurrect nostalgia for the classic rave scenes of techno’s original inception. Each fast-paced, heart-racing, blast of bass and swirl of synths sits uniquely on its own throne, showcasing the multidimensional nature of the genre, while still keeping that iconic rhythm pumping and bumping throughout this buffet. 

It is definitely in your best interest to listen through all 10 morsels, there were some that had me going in again and again. One such track was HELLBOUND!’s opener, ‘Beware,’ which is a great sign of what is to come and should not act at all as a deterrent. Beginning with soft opera-like vocals which are quickly overtaken by classic 90’s synths the track smacks of classic influence right off the bat. The steady iconic Techno beat inundates you with warehouse dancefloor vibes. The breaks are ethereal, letting the rhythms stalk the angelic vocals, and don’t falter on keeping things tightly enmeshed. It’s refreshing to hear the pulse of the rhythm stand alone against the breathier synths later on in the track. 

Newcomer, Declan James, throws in his hat with ‘New Age Psychosis’, a thrilling techno track. Layered precisely with a delicious beat that has a tasty reverb, the build-up is designed almost like a scaffold of sound, architecturally structured so that you can feel the pulse reverberate through each element of the sounds woven in. This technique creates a creeping, seeping, sort of sensation that is like a meal for the ear. The progression ramps things up, and brings the sounds down and out, before clutching them together again. It is a fresh take on an old sound that hits the mark with every transition and turn. 

Another track I particularly fancied was forseti’s ‘Go Back’. Wasting no time getting to the meaty bass, the rhythm envelopes you at the get-go, and the distorted vocal sample starts to loops setting the ominous but frenzied mood. A quick drop brings in the sharper sound samples and lurking beneath are the rising synths that suddenly give way to a break where the stripped-down beat unfurls into a textured verse. ‘Go Back’ is complex and dark, but not so moody that there isn’t something to groove to. The pulsing synths towards the end of the song blossom over and over carrying the excitement all the way to the finish line.

Beyond releasing incredible music, JEANIE has taken her impact a step further with the creation of her collective built for women in electronic music, GRL GANG. If you’re not already familiar with the names on the roster, get familiar. GRL GANG has become the home for some of the most exciting rising talents in bass music, period. With a collection of guest mixes and two complications under her belt, it’s more clear than ever that GRL GANG is forced to be reckoned with and is here to stay. With all this being said, it feels like the perfect time for the young legend to join one of electronic music’s newest flagship labels, Space Yacht, with her new single ‘Psychosis’. 

Right out the gate, we’re met by the sinister and aggressive atmosphere created in the intro before being introduced to this hypnotic distorted guitar rift. This rift caries the record forward, as more and more percussive elements are added until we’re finally thrown into the belly of the beast. That is, of course, a barrage of heavily distorted leads that are presented to us in a machine-gun-like way.  Thankfully, we got the chance to sit down with JEANIE to pick her brain on this masterpiece of a track and see what the future holds! First off, Happy Women’s History Month! Thank you so much for stopping by and allowing us to host this awesome moment. Give us a little insight into the evolution of the ‘PSYCHOSIS.’

What the song means to me: I made ‘Psychosis’ one night after having writer’s block for a while and it’s definitely the result of a lot of pent-up aggression. I’d say it’s just the beginning of an even heavier era for me

Your career trajectory has been nothing but up for the past years, with many flagship label releases and the creation of a truly impactful collective, GRL GANG.  Do you have a vision of where you’d like to see your music go in the future? What about the GRL GANG collective as a whole? 

I definitely plan to explore my sound more and work with new artists as well as continue to focus on solo releases. My main goal is just to keep progressing and hope to see GRL GANG continue to do the same.

There’s still a long way to go for the dance music industry in terms of inclusion, equality, and equity. What do you hope the scene will be in the future for women who want to break into the industry?

I agree, but I do think we’re going in the right direction. I hope to see more and more festival lineups, labels and the rest of the industry, in general, be more diverse moving forward, which will absolutely inspire more women to be a part of the industry. We need them!

Listening to over 2000 demos on their live-show, this recent compilation provides a forward-thinking approach as several of the producer’s distinctive production styles shine bright.

From Qlank encouraging us to turn up those speakers as he incorporates a futuristic approach to ‘Cell Phone’ with prolonged frequencies, cell phone ringtones, and abrupt vibrations, this producer does not hold back to push all boundaries with this one. To even having us ‘Lose Control’ with Poolhaus & Local Singles filthy single featuring Boiish to keep us on our feet till the sunrise, the track only continues to take full control as sonic melodies and a thumping bassline are truly the sweetest, yet darkest match. Only providing a taste of what is in this compilation, Space Yacht has provided unique musical gems that will definitely satisfy a wide audience of tech-house lovers.

“When we started to think about putting together the compilation, we wanted to stay true to our mission of giving new artists a platform for their music. Eighty percent of the records we signed for this compilation were discovered on Tune Reactor.
