Chicago boys Spades and Vermyllion are no strangers to molding delicious audible delicacies. Showcasing keen attention to detail and next-level sound design, these two have been forces to be reckoned with individually for some time now, consistently staying true to their own unique individual sounds. Now, when times are dark and dreary, they’ve graced the world with a piece that, at its very foundation, is about bringing people together, something that is of the current utmost importance. This comes in the form of ‘Coalesce’, a wonderfully wobbly bass monstrosity out as part of the Spicy Bois’ Would You Just Wook At It? collaborative April Fool’s album.

Thick, addicting, and immaculately-crafted are all ways to describe one’s favorite milkshake, but also extremely valid for ‘Coalesce.’ Sporting a devious, yet delightful vibe that makes one grin devilishly while getting in-tune with their inner gremlin, this piece will surely have people up and out of their seats faster than you can say “quarantine is over.” Get your best gloves on, you’ll be slapping the bass lines away in your best interpretation of an unhappy bee-keeper, flailing limbs at the forefront of the situation. The definition of “Coalesce” is “to come together to form one mass or whole”, and that’s exactly what the world needs right now. Music is such a powerful unifying force, bringing people of all race, ethnicity, and creed together for a communal experience. ‘Coalesce’ is a perfect sonic embodiment of this ideal, placing emphasis on fun and uniqueness, traits that are in current short supply in our world. Put this joyful little jawn on and get lost in the moment for a little while, check it out below!

Despite having only started a little under two years ago, Spicy Bois have now released over 140 songs and support upcoming artists heavily such as MeSo, Big City, Herbalistek, TOWERS, Smoakland and so many more. Their following has grown an incredible amount in a short time frame since we last checked in with 6k SoundCloud followers to now holding over double that with a 14k+ following and their fan group Wasabi Posse at a near 4k members. From releasing exclusive merch, to passing out Spicy Mixtapes at Electric Forest, they continue to cultivate unique experiences that gain longtime listeners.

To begin the year properly, Spicy Bois hit the ground running with a 10-track compilation Can I Get Uhhh... The project includes artists such as Cntrlla, leet, Space Wizard, Big City and ULK to name a few. Trying to find a way to describe the sound design utilized throughout is like trying to describe what happens to your mind when inside of a sensory deprivation tank. You simply just have to experience it for yourself. There is a sense of dissociation where it feels as the frequencies are permeating your mind allowing you to fully fixate on what you are hearing. Aside from the immaculate level of production, the quality of collaborations are top tier. With six out of the ten being collabs, it was crazy to hear how well they all worked together as if the sounds were meant to meet one another. s e s h and leet’s ‘Ripple Effect’ as well as Space Wizard and Big City’s ‘This Is Not Good’ were stand out collabs for me. With ‘Ripple Effect’ having a trance like affect on me, I found it difficult to pull myself away from listening. It was like only me and that track existed during the time it was playing. ‘This Is Not Good’ caught my attention right away with the far out intro and inviting vocal samples. It drops straight into madness with the over riding percussion that sounds like a 90’s cartoon character running.

With each track conducting its own energy, this compilation is truly an audible expedition. If you don’t know who Spicy Bois are by now it’s time to get out from the rock you’re living under. Listen below and catch the free download here.

Purveyors of all things that go wub in the dead of night, The Spicy Bois label, have come at your ear holes with more audible treats to make you aggressively wiggle. Incorporating wide ranges of weird noises that somehow come together into a veritable sonic delicacy, these men are contemporary wizards of their craft. They’ve just blessed us with a 5 track EP with more spice than a habanero pepper, the They Don’t Even Have a Laptop EP, featuring solo tracks from Space Wizard, Cnopes, Mlotik, and Kyral X Banko, and a massive collaboration from Meso & smith..

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/688666498″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Starting off this escapade of sweltering beats is Space Wizard coming at you live and direct with ‘More of the Same,’ a tyrannical flamethrower of sub bass sure to bust your eyes wide open like the first sip of coffee in the morning. If there was one question to ask him after rinsing this track for the first time, it would surely be “who hurt you dude?” This track will crush more skulls than a state school crushes cheap beer cans in a weekend. I was left battered, confused, and slightly angry when this track was over. Unsure of what to do with myself, I found my only course of action was to throw myself right back into the fierce throng of malicious beats once more.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/688666495″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Taking up the second spot in the compilation, Kevin Lee, known by his production name Meso, collides with a man that has cornered the market on low-end, smith., to bring us a song that resembles a demon growling at you from the fourth dimension. ‘HiFi’ is the epitome of what we describe as “experimental” music in this day and age, eliciting only the gnarliest of bass faces and alien dance moves. Forget a seance and the need to whip out a ouija board, this track will practically be a batman symbol in the night sky for spooky spirits.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/688666492″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”300″ iframe=”true” /]

Next, Denver-based boys Kyral x Banko have brought us ‘Activ8,’ a true nod to their overall goal of crafting pieces that have great diversity within. This track features several different styles of drops, some with waterfalls of cascading crunchy bass, while others sound like laser cannons are firing at extraterrestrial forces hell-bent on taking over our planet. If you ever felt the need to put your mind into a blender for exactly two minutes and fifty-one seconds, this is it chief.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/688666483″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Coming at the fourth spot, mlotik brings us a dancey, lively banger in the form of ‘BoJenkins’. The song starts out on a high note, with the first drop by itself being a grand ol’ time, but it continues to grow and expand, adding exceptional layers and spacing that practically hammers your head back and forth subconsciously. This is a track that’s an absolute joy to get up and groove to. The vocal sample “where my dogs at?” is included in the middle of the track, and to answer that question succinctly, it’s not where the milkshakes are for once. Like sharks to blood in the water, bassheads will surely flock to whatever sound system is bumping this prime piece of wonky goodness.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/688666474″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Rounding out the compilation is Cnopes coming in hot with ‘Innerlook’, a deep dive into sonic therapy via centered introspection. With all the different aesthetic elements included within, this is a track that truly builds off the little moving parts to create this much bigger stitched-together blanket of sound. It’s easy to put this song on repeat and have time slip away ever so pleasantly, joyfully high on noise and lost in the moment.

If there’s anything to take away from this compilation, it’s that I’m almost positive these Spicy Bois do, in fact, have laptops, and they’re quite well-versed in making them pump out exhilarating, energetic alien noise. If you’re headed to Wakaan Music Festival this week, make sure to check out their takeover and the individual sets from these quickly rising bass maestros.

Check out the They Don’t Even Have Laptops EP in full for yourself below!

Zachary Camner, also known as Camnah, has seen incredible amounts of growth both in his own career and of his merry band of fellow Spicy Bois in 2019. Right before the beginning of the year he released his first collaboration with Old Gregg ‘Run It Up’ onto the label to major praise for his sound design and organization. Now, just, 9 months later, he’s reached another major milestone of surpassing one thousand followers on SoundCloud. To give back to his connoisseurs of piquant sound waves, he’s released his first ever solo EP The Spicy Beans EP, and we’ve had the pleasure of premiering arguably the filthiest song on the collection, ‘I Won’t.’

‘I Won’t’ is one of those songs that as soon as it’s over you’re faced with the tough decision to either put it on replay or go take a piping hot shower for 30 minutes to rinse off the grime that this heater leaves. If you thought saucy wubs couldn’t get possibly get any dirtier, try layering Danny Brown’s ‘I Will’ over it. What you’re left with is a combination that both majestically flows from beat to beat as the production is so clean you could eat off it, and also acts as a first-class ticket to getting completely wild courtesy of Brown’s very NSFW vocals. If this song were human, it’d be a figure skater in nothing but a G-string, gracefully gliding around while still simultaneously letting it all hang out. Mixing ridiculous vocals with low-end that backhands you in the face is the musical equivalent of striking flint, and Camnah has made a veritable towering inferno at this point.

2019 has already been an incredible milestone year for this youthful artist, and with 3 months left in the year there’s still plenty of time to continue turning heads. Camnah will be one producer you’ll want to keep a keen eye on as he continues to build upon and push his own sound, and the sound of all his fellow Spicy Bois.

Raising the standards and pushing boundaries of the bass world, they have supplied a home to tracks by artists such as MeSo, ION, just john and much more. Today they return with the release of a new EP by Tokyo based duo Herbalistek titled ‘Polarity.’

Adding a three track EP to their catalog to speak further on the innovation and originality of Herbalistek in a time period where it is inevitable to be compared to another artist, this is sincerely a stand out work of art. Between remixes that represent their interpretation of said tracks such as their ATLiens remix of ‘Exile,’ to their untamed originals like ‘Invalid‘ and ‘Placebo.’ Herbalistek demonstrates their work ethic and proves they won’t be disappearing anytime soon. As each track is prepared, the duo derives intuitive ideas that allow for each product to take on a life of its own. Staying true to this statement, their three track EP has two collabs and one track from the duo their self. Listening through this collage multiple times, it has become more and more prevalent that they have embodied their environment as inspiration and plan to redefine genre labeling.

Between the atmospheric intros and break downs to the chaotic sound design, Polarity projects an impeccable feeling of metamorphosis.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/665801795″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”300″ iframe=”true” /]

The title track ‘Polarity’ presents a faint sonic invasion. Supernatural beings have landed and taken over our planet. The unnatural arrangement contributes to an overall eerie feeling and presents uncanny sound design. Tell me where else you have ever heard anything like this before. Being their solo product of this EP, Herbalistek expands what “forward-thinking” means and exhibit the limits of their avant-garde style.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/637458099″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”300″ iframe=”true” /]

Continuing the metamorphic process, Herbalistek integrate their ideas with like minded artist Veepot on ‘Estrangement.’ The procedure of a biological change is underway for this planet as we once knew it with the operator continuing to ask for a response. This extraterrestrial beings have confiscated our ecosystem in attempt to boost this generation to the next level of evolution. ‘Estrangement’ is patient yet brutish and demands the next phase completes the transformation.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/637458228″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”300″ iframe=”true” /]

In the final steps of renovation, Allen Mock joins the duo with ‘Premonition.’ A countdown like intro feeds into the abyss of the creatures that now roam this so called planet. A new habitat has erupted and caused a shock wave that leaks into an alternate dimension. Revealing a track that contains preternatural vibrations, this combination of artist interaction was only bound to happen after their successful ‘Okami‘ collaboration with Oski. It becomes difficult to separate the feeling of physical existence from fantasy if you just allow yourself to seep into this new era of genre defining bass music. Close your eyes and give multiple listens to truly appreciate the value of this track as well as the rest of the EP.

Registering frighteningly high on the heat scale, the Spicy Bois are as close as you can get to a one-way ticket to flavortown. Under the firm grip of Chicago-based MeSo, the label has become a stomping ground for peculiar production and all varieties of uncanny trap sounds in the midwest and beyond.

The latest from the pepper patch, Kyral x Banko & Mport team up for ‘Scovie’, a track that in itself both defines and defies the basis of Scoville heat measurement. A cavernous tapping, like the echoing of waterdrops on a cold surface, which quickly emerges into eerie accordance of horns and a menacing vocal sample, launching the track into a wonky breakdown of abrasive subs and an assortment of sounds that mimic a junkyard wind-chime.

An otherworldly pulsing contours the next build, as rhythmic, electro-infused percussion induce a momentary lapse in the space-time continuum, teleporting the listener seamlessly into a second drop of low bass barrages and an onslaught of tight metallic synths. The entire dairy section at your local bodega would prove useless in cooling down the latest burner from Kyral x Banko & Mpol.

Bid your tastebuds good luck, and be sure to grab the free download of ‘Scovie’ for that sweet heat you hate to love.
