We all love to talk about music, share our favorite tracks with our friends, and introduce perfect strangers to our beloved artists. Doing it in person, maybe while enjoying one last drink after a good sweaty show or while smoking on the couch is certainly the best way to go, but you know, every new alternative is more than welcome. Not that we lack options. Turntable FM, Discord bots, social media threads and “classic” playlists are all very good alternatives, but since we spend a lot of our time on Spotify, this new feature looks just perfect for our needs.

After a couple of months of beta testing, Spotify’s latest in-app personalized experience, Blend, is rolling out to Spotify Free and Premium users globally. Similar to other notorious Spotify’s collaborative features as Family Mix and Duo Mix, Blend is presented as a new way for two users to merge their musical tastes into one shared playlist made just for them. However, it differs from the other Spotify offerings because it automatically combines the tastes of two different users into a playlist, without the need to manually add songs. With the official launch, Blend is enriched with new cover art, taste match scores to see your listening preferences compared to your friends’ (music Tinder is here boys and girls), and shareable data stories that are unique to every listening pair.

No matter if you see it as a fun mystery box of music, Spotify’s new evil user acquisition strategy, or simply a way to make long drives with friends way more enjoyable. This is going to be fun. Here at FUXWITHIT we have already started.

How does Blend work?

1. Tap “Create Blend” in the ‘Made for You’ hub on mobile.
2. Next, tap “Invite” to select a friend to join your Blend via messaging.
3. Once your friend accepts, Spotify will generate custom cover art and a tracklist for the two of you filled with songs that combine your listening preferences and tastes.
4. Share your Blend results by tapping “Share this story” at the bottom of your data story screen.

How many times have you opened Spotify wanting to listen to the catalog of your favorite label, but found yourself in a limbo? In the best scenario, the label in question has diligently created its own playlist, and that was it. Easy game. In many other cases, however, you’ve probably found yourself having to manually add individual tracks to the queue or, simply, you have given up. Apparently, the solution to this widespread problem has always been there. It just wasn’t well known (to put it mildly). Thankfully for us, a couple of days ago bass producer Computa has come to our rescue and shared the simple solution on Twitter.

did u know that on Spotify you can search for all the songs on a label by typing —-

label: “xxxxxxx” pic.twitter.com/HjpqRJaQog

— Computa (@computamusic) May 22, 2021

As you can see, it’s not actually an official feature but an advanced search option (you can find more of them on Spotify’s support page here) that allows us to easily find music released by the label matching keyword. Some users claim this option doesn’t actually work with every label, but all the tests I’ve made so far were successful. The most ironic thing about this is not that it isn’t an official feature yet, but the fact that this option has been there for a while under our noses without many (I think most) of us ignoring its existence. Is it our fault that we don’t take the time to properly know a tool we use every day? Maybe, but a little promotion wouldn’t hurt.

Without an increase of streaming revenues on the horizon, fundraising looks like a more realistic source of income for artists and creatives during this lockdown situation. While the most popular solution in our community so far has been Twitch, Spotify has announced the forthcoming arrival of a brand new feature that will make easier for artists to allow their fans donate.

This feature, according to the official statement, will enable artists to fundraise directly from fans by driving listeners to a destination of their choice on their Spotify artist profile pages. Owners of Spotify For Artist accounts will have the ability to link out to a verified funding page for themselves, for another artist in need, or for a separate initiative of their choice. This feature will be optional for artists to leverage; no changes will be made to profile pages unless the artist chooses to participate, and Spotify will not take a cut of any contributions.

If you are an artist and you’re interested in the initiative, you can go to this link to sign up for email updates about the feature.

This is just one of the several campaigns launched by the Swedish platform in the past few days in support of artists in need all over the world. You can check the whole Spotify COVID-19 Music Relief plan here.
