Skrillex, Four Tet & Starrah Team Up In Infectious ‘Butterflies’

A true legend in electronic music and beyond, Skrillex needs no introduction. His incredible versatility across all genres of music have earned him the recognition as one of the best in the game, and despite being relatively quiet in the last half decade, his influence on all realms of music is undeniable. With the surprise release of ‘Kliptown Empyrean‘ last October and the promise for more, fans have been impatiently awaiting new material Skrillex and seven months later, that itch is slightly appeased.

Following the house and garage influence of his last solo piece, Skrillex is back with a vibey bop primed for the summer titled ‘Butterflies.’ Teaming up with another veteran, Four Tet, as well as rising star Starrah, the trio of artists have concocted a three-minute jam that is sure to have you listening on repeat while dancing uncontrollably in your living room. The ideas aren’t revolutionary, but the execution is top tier. The attention to detail is the highlight of ‘Butterflies,’ with layers of bass, percussion and vocals all coming together to form a flawless house piece. With a mesmerizing break just past the two minute mark that displays the true mastery of all involved, ‘Butterflies’ is a strong contender for playlist favourites.

While on air with Annie Mac to premiere the track on Monday, Skrillex stated that he is sitting on a ton of material that he is proud of for the first time in years. Reading between the lines, it sounds like we might finally be getting a consistent stream of music from the legend in the near future. Until then, blast ‘Butterflies’ on repeat below.

Destructo’s Renegade EP comes with a tour this spring

Destructo has a stacked roster for his latest EP – Renegade boasts featured artists such as iLoveMakonnen, Pusha T and E-40, and one can only hope that they join him for his upcoming spring tour.

As the EP progresses, the G-house vibe gets heavier with each song – save a brief trap interlude near the end, from the title track with Freddie Gibbs. Special mention goes to his collab track with Wax Motif: embedded in the heart of the EP, the deep bass combined with Pusha & Starrah‘s overlaying vocals will get you bouncing without even realizing it.

Cashmere Cat Taps Tory Lanez, Starrah & 2 Chainz for New Single ‘Throw Myself a Party’

As Cashmere Cat continues to gear up for the release of his debut album, Wild Love, he has unleashed the third single ‘Throw Myself A Party’. The track features heavy hitters 2 Chainz and Tory Lanez and promising up-and-comer Starrah (‘Catching Plays’). It’s an interesting blend of sounds that somehow fit together tremendously. It’s part poppy, part rap and part signature Cashmere Cat. ‘Throw Myself A Party’ manages to toe the line between radio friendly simplicity and complex and forward-thinking backing. This may be Cashmere Cat’s best album cut yet.

Destructo, Wax Motif, Pusha T and Starrah Join Forces for ‘Catching Plays’

Destructo and Wax Motif are pretty much the kingpins of this bass house & g-house shit. Further cementing their status comes a colossal collab with Pusha T and Starrah. From the ominous opening and Pusha’s picturesque bars (“Overdose on a sunset set, and an open coast, my network full of drug dealer who don’t hold a note”) you know this one is going be major. Pusha’s grittiness is juxtaposed with Starrah’s swaggy vocals (think Rae Sremmurd) while the beat sees a variety directions; moving from fierce trap, to energetic and of course, the filthy house grooves that Destructo and Wax Motif are known for. All this adds up to an absolute monster set to murder the remainder of 2016. Stream below and cop it on iTunes.
