Toronto producers Tyr Kohout and Incandescent come together as Two-State – and almost right off the bat, they’ve created Robust: a 10-song LP, ready to bring down the house with some really dark, heavy and dynamic sounds.

The album has a fitting name, given how rich and hefty each track is. It’s an eclectic mix of neurofunk, drumstep, and generally heavy d’n’b, with hints of deep dub in some areas. Towards the middle of the album, there’s a prevalence of halftime and breakbeat, to switch things up – and for those looking for a proper tune to rinse out to, take note of its sixth track, ‘Pitchbend’.

Fellow T.O. drum ‘n’ bass afficionado Stranjah is the only featured artist, who helps put together the triplet-esque tune ‘Beasting‘. The very tune also has a VIP, which helps close out the album on a graceful and melodic manner, but not without one last bass-y hurrah.

In relation to the album, the duo have also made a promo mix, to help wrap it all up with a nice, lengthy bow! The mix features a good range of the genres/styles that influenced the album itself – with artists like Minnesota, Mefjus, and many other hard-hitters – as well as songs & remixes by Two-State, and each of the duo’s respective artists.
Check out the album and mix beolw; Robust is now available on Beatport, via Schedule One Recordings.

It’s that glorious time of year again, where the weather is bound to start getting warmer soon, and festivals are going to sprout up for a summer of revelling and outdoor fun. Before all that goes down though, bassheads can rejoice in the return of BASSWEEK, Toronto’s annual celebration of the heavier side of electronic music.

This year, Destiny & Embrace come together to bring two massive weekends filled with drum & bass. It all begins on St. Patrick’s Day, with RAM Records taking over Maison Mercer, featuring Bad Company as the headliners. Toronto Bass Community will host their regular Low Frequency event at Lily Lounge on the 18th, with Stranjah and Polaris playing a back-to-back set.

The second weekend starts off with a Locals Only night at The Den on the 24th, hosting over 15 of the city’s finest artists. The following night welcomes Hospital Records to CODA, which will be headlined by none other than Camo & Krooked! As the perfect cherry on top, there’s also going to be a Bassweek post-party – World of Drum & Bass, held at Nest on March 31st, featuring the Prototypes, DJ SS, and Blade Runner.

If you’re looking to throw down & rinse out, grab yourself a wristband, which gives you full access to all four main events; tickets for the post-party are available separately.

Hope to see you on the dance floor!
