A day after winning two Grammy’s, TDE’s Kendrick Lamar dropped a banger for the masses. This socially conscious and emotionally driven joint features Kendrick drawing on his thoughts about race relations in the rap game and society. Throughout the song he calls himself a hypocrite – and if you listen close enough, you’ll hear why. Listen below.

Punch – 25 (feat. Kendrick Lamar)

The TDE head honcho has been steady dropping little gems throughout the year and today he blesses us with what is his best effort yet. Featuring his homeboy and labelmate Kendrick on the hook (and only the hook – sorry guys), ’25’ is Punch revisiting his childhood and youth. This coming of age song from the West Coast label head is almost perfect. Though perfect is a strong word, after multiple listens there really isn’t another way to describe it. Punch does an amazing job of crafting bars that paint a picture of his come up in the projects, “dope dealers have it all then free fall, ‘caine numbs the pain up and down, the ghetto seesaw, the voice of the youth they hear me but they see y’all“. Glad he made it to 25, Punch recruits Kendrick to offer the youth some advice. Check it out below, My Project Window coming soon.

Jay Rock – Parental Advisory

We out here! Jay Rock heads home for this new joint which is a clear tribute to the West. The beat is produced by SmokeyGotBeatz and of course its “Mixed By Ali”. Jay Rock jumped up on everyone’s radar when he joined K Dot on “Money Trees” but he’s been in the game for a minute. This track shows us just that – the hook is infectious and will definitely incite a chant when played to a crowd and the verses deliver enough to get your head rocking. No word if this is attached a project or not but we’re excited to hear what Jay Rock drops next.

Late night in the stu. Here’s a pleasant surprise for a Wednesday afternoon. Nasty Nas blesses the Groovy Q hit that has been getting its spins since the release of the album. Right off the jump, Nas isn’t playing any games and he raps effortlessly. Though the song is all about the ladies, Nas addresses some serious business – his free agency. With his last album on Def Jam en route and a single dropping soon, he announces “I’m interviewin’ – holler“. The track continues with the same verses from ScHoolboy and the infectious hook from BJ. SXSW Wrap Up

Now that SXSW has come to an end we’re taking you through some of the best moments from one of the biggest annual festivals. Now if you don’t know what SXSW is then, have a look here. This 10 day festival sets apart a whole week for music and this year some of the biggest and brightest threw down at the sponsored venues. So lets kick it off!

iTunes Festival – T.D.E. Showcase

One of the illest shows to come out of SXSW, ScHoolboy Q and Kendrick Lamar shut it down. Q performed mainly form his major label debut ‘Oxymoron’ (check out the full review here) and Kendrick performed his hits off of GKMC. K Dot also brought out Jay Rock for ‘Money Trees’ which is a great moment in itself. A lot of rips have been taken down but in case you missed the live event you can check out the show through your iTunes. It was definitely a great show!

Tyler the Creator Gets Arrested for Inciting a Riot

During his show, Tyler the Creator encouraged fans to push passed security guards eventually leading to a full blown riot. His bond was set for $25,000 and he’s since been released. This all happened one day after the tragic hit-and-run that killed 2 people attending the festival. Tyler took to his Twitter account to distance himself from the incident after people began attaching his name to the accident. Footage below.

G.O.O.D. Music Showcase w/ Big Sean, Pusha T and CyHi

Getting back to the music, Big Sean closed out the G.O.O.D. Music showcase at SXSW with performances of his hits. The set list included tracks like ‘Guap’ and the posse cut ‘Clique’ with assistance from Pusha T. Kanye wasn’t available to make an appearance at this showcase, as he was with Hov running The Throne gig. Check out the tail end of the show below with Travis Scott and Pusha T.

50 Cent Premieres ‘Hold On’

After leaving Shady/Aftermath, Fif has been on a promo tear for his new album, Animal Ambition. At this years SXSW showcase, 50 debuted his latest single ‘Hold On’. Since then he has released the song officially and it is available for download on iTunes. I’m personally excited to see how the full project pans out. Although joining an independent label may mean more control over the project’s direction, the marketing dollars behind Curtis’ album won’t be as strong which may hurt his overall sales. Nas Performs ‘The World Is Yours’

SXSW is a great opportunity for music fans to see their favourite artists and during the Mass Appeal Showcase, Nas took to the stage and dropped a classic cut from Illmatic as a treat for all the fans. Without a doubt this was a big moment for SXSW. As Nas prepares to drop Illmatic XX to celebrate 20 years since the original Illmatic dropped, you can relive the hype of this moment, thanks to Vibe.

The Throne Showcase

It’s been almost 3 years since the Ye and Jay ‘Watch the Throne’ dropped. When it did, it set the tail end of the summer off. The tracks from the collaborative project still bang and that was clearly evident at this years SXSW. Jay Z and Kanye took to the stage to perform work from the album including ‘Otis‘, ‘Niggas in Paris’ and ‘Gotta Have It’. Although the footage is not the best, below is a video of the multi-platinum hit that is ‘Niggas in Paris’. And you better believe they rocked the track more than once.
