Phoenix based trio SAAS is comprised of three innovative individuals being Albert Garcia (KOZ), Stephen Tutelo and Sean Cara. Their mission is to form a new age darkness and modernize what heavy electronic music means. Maintaining a catalog of fresh remixes and edits, they have also crafted authentic originals that give you a peak into the inner mind of this trio. With support and releases from a variety of underground purveyors such as Below The Surface with their competition winning ‘illy‘, as well as releases through the likes of Sub.terranenan sounds, The Gradient Perspective, The Untz and more, SAAS is quickly gaining traction. Today they are back with their second premiere via The Untz in the alluring ‘Figure It Out.’

Depicted in the cover art is a perfect representation of what is to be expected from your listening experience. We see the Greek figure head statue wearing a gold chain while the area of the brain is occupied by a city on fire. The tamed intro can be acquainted with the statue as it is calm as peaceful. The gold chain carries the thug like mindset of thick 808’s and profound bass lines. Moving into the inner workings of the track is where we arrive into the burning city which represents the chaos that is ensued with the drop of this track. Listening to this track is like wearing a brand new Armani suit paired with a Rolex and Salvatore Ferragamo dress shoes while running through an apocalyptic wasteland. Tune in to ‘Figure It Out’ out now via The Untz.

In 2019, the underground is taking over in full force. The most recent attention has been shifted to FLY and HMU who are both artists well worth getting familiar with. Los Angeles representative FLY is certainly causing a ruckus with his latest release ‘Pavilion‘ which had a place on Sounds From Below Vol 5, as well as his recent collab ‘Splitter‘ with Toadface. Consistently adding to his catalog, he has released a total of six tracks this year with many more on the way.

HMU is a Chicago raised artist now based out of Los Angeles and is known for running the successful collective Don’t Die At Work where he blends his eye pleasing graphic design work with ear pleasing production. The collective has provided a community for boundary breaking artists such as Adiidas, thook and yojas. In his latest effort, he has teamed up with FLY for ‘Icaro’. With this release they continue to prove why they are worthy of having their music played out on only the best of speaker systems and why artists need to have their tracks in their festival sets and playlists.

Listening to ‘Icaro’ on a poor speaker system is like watching a 3D movie without the glasses. It is absolutely necessary to give all frequencies presented a maximum volume level. In today’s times the word “icaro” is commonly used to describe medicine songs performed in vegetal ceremonies to induce a profound state of healing, awareness, or amazement. These feelings are also portrayed in this track, with the intro creating an ominous feeling of comfort and a slight sense of tension. It slowly builds with tribal like drums before the subtle amount of silence opens doors to a field of percussion. The bass tones are thick and bounce around freely, avoiding an interference with other sounds sampled. In the second drop, there is an emphasis on sound structure and using minimal layers to create the heaviest impact. From beginning to end ‘Icaro’ is a masterpiece that will shed proper light on these artists and help catapult them into well deserved positions among the forward thinking bass community. Grab the free download here and listen below.

Conrad Woodul aka sumthin sumthin has an incredible spectrum of releases, collaborations, premieres, and features. In addition to this, he has recently become a full member of Lost Dogz and released ‘Cut That B*tch’ in celebration. Lost Dogz represents a vital part of the underground bass movement with a team full of ubiquitous producers such as EAZYBAKED, Milano, and Untitld. With the passion, creativity, and minimal layered sound of sumthin sumthin, he is the ideal addition to this crew and ‘Cut That B*tch’ demonstrates each of these attributes.

Premiering on The Untz for his first time, Conrad brings life to an eerie mood that depicts jagged and robust sound design. The placement of his breathtaking bass combined with his off the wall drippy percussion is impeccable. Lost Dogz appears to be the perfect home for the dynamic producer, with this track contributing as much trap as it does weirdness. He blends the sought after left field bass sound while also displaying his natural trap grime which makes this a true audible experience. Furthermore, ‘Cut That B*tch’ only adds to the already expansive resume and should have you itching for the next release. Listen below and be sure to follow sumthin sumthin and Lost Dogz.
