It’s been way too long since we’ve dropped a fresh Viibes playlist. Usually a monthly feature, we somehow managed to take almost the entire summer off. Sorry for the delay, but I’m happy to say Viibes is back! The 10th edition is everything you’ve come to expect; breathe-taking, laid back, and melodic beats. It’s where airy soundscapes and 808’s collide for a sound that is infinitely chill. thefaded. – Sunday EP

Yesterday thefaded. decided to drop an EP. Seemingly standard behavior for a music producer, that is until you realize that he wrote, composed, mixed, and mastered the entire project in the span of one day. With his mom away in Mexico, he spent Mother’s day alone in the studio cooking up heat. ‘Sunday’ is a four track EP that is reminiscent of the monthly Summer releases he dropped last year (August Sun, July Waves, June Heat). The project is a diverse arrangement of sounds, moving from dark and trippy, to adventurous and ethereal, and upbeat and bumpin’. The fact that he recorded it in one day and is this impressive is a true testament to his abilities. Stream the EP below and snag the free download.

thefaded. – August Sun EP

LA based producer thefaded. has just released his third EP (actually fourth including his collab EP with BMB Spacekid) of the summer. Entitled August Sun, it is a collection of music he crafted last month. If you haven’t checked out his June Heat or July Waves they are both worth a listen (or several). If you aren’t familiar with the producer be forwarned his music may take some warming up too if you don’t listen to music on the weird side of the spectrum. That being said the dude is amazing.

The opening track ‘Monkey See’ starts out with a glitchy sound that is off putting at first, but as he brings the heavy bass back in and adds layers it takes form. This track proves his variability as a producer, moving over a wide array of sounds and closing out with a mellow hazy vibe, setting the stage for ‘Vegetable Medley’. My personal favorite sees the project move into an airy, distorted bass sound with classic hip-hop vocals (Dead Prez anyone?) chopped and sprinkled throughout, plus some pretty trippy synths. ‘Stale bread’ is a straight up bassment banger with ragga vocals and enough energy to set any club on fire. The EP closes with ‘An Exhibition Of Self Control’. The producer said that he had “synths all over it, crazy un-syncopated percussion, so many textures everywhere” but decided to strip it down. The result is a dark tune that relies heavily on vocal loops and deep bass. Overall the project is a must for anyone who loves gritty music and helps to certify the fact that thefaded. is becoming one of the underground king’s of it. thefaded. – July Waves EP

When I think of thefaded. I instantly think of dark, gritty, hard-hitting bass music. For his latest EP July Waves he’s decided to mix it up, putting together a project that is filled with vibes. The tracks are mellowed out, breezy, and tranquil. It’s the kind of stuff to cool out to on a lazy afternoon or a hot Summer’s night way too late. BMB Spacekid x thefaded. – TRAAFTWERK EP – Free Download

Oxnard, California’s own thefaded. has hooked up with Russian producer BMB Spacekid for the new EP ‘TRAAFTWERK’. The result is quite impressive. Overall the project is dark, gritty and extremely hard hitting. It’s the kind of music you’d expect to hear in dank basement club with the walls rattling. The whole EP is solid from front to back but stand out tracks include ‘BOUNCE ONE’ & ‘WHEN I GET LOW (I GET HIGH)’. The former sounds like trap in 2050 where raves take place on spaceship with wildly distorted bass lines. The latter starts off slow with dusty jazzy/swing sample before the vocals get bent and chopped to oblivion with some chest bumping bass added. This is one of the craziest bass tracks I have heard in a minute. You can stream the whole EP below and download it for free here! If you’d like to support the project you can cop it via Bandcamp.
