Trampa‘s Disrespect LP released earlier this year was an exceptional foray into the origins of bass music, with the artist adding his own modern touch to various genres that have shaped much of today’s sound. Now, Trampa looks to give his project a new life in the form of a remix album, with LINK having already delivered a bass house take on ‘Generals,’ and Ivy Lab next to the plate with a swampy rendition of ‘All Night’ featuring Nolay. Yes, you read that correctly – Ivy Lab on Never Say Die.

While the original is a high-octane, bass-riddled brute that perfectly meshes industrial sounds with powerful vocals, Ivy Lab strip back the intensity without omitting their fair dosage of grungy bass. The soundtrack to exploring dark, grimy caves that are oozing with unknown creatures, Ivy Lab’s remix for ‘All Night’ is minimal yet sinister, transporting listeners to a world of ominous soundscapes. The remix is not a complete overhaul of the original, but Ivy Lab have transformed ‘All Night’ into a unique sonic experience, giving the track another life.

There aren’t many details about the rest of the Disrespect LP remixes, but we’re sure this Ivy Lab beast is going to keep you satisfied until we know more. Check it out below.

From kicking off and closing out Never Say Die: Black Label, to remaining one of the label’s (and the scene’s) hardest hitting forces, Trampa has earned a plethora of accolades that most wish to achieve in a lifetime. One thing missing from the English producer’s arsenal, though, was a full body of work that embodied his true genius. The key word in the previous sentence, was, is enough to tell you all you need to know about the status of that situation, as Trampa has finally unleashed his Disrespect LP via Never Say Die for all to enjoy.

Simply put, the Disrespect LP contains ten distinct tracks, each holding strong on their own, but coming together to create a riveting journey through various eras of bass music. Don’t get us wrong; every track has that unique Trampa flair that has lingered throughout his works for years now. However, in the Disrespect LP, Trampa displays a versatility that, quite frankly, we didn’t know he possessed.

Hip-hop and grime inspirations come to light in the title track and ‘Generals.’ ‘Signal’ pairs menacing drum and bass with classic breaks to transport listeners back to the early days of raving in the UK. More old-school British influence oozes profusely in ‘All Night’ as Trampa meshes his inventive production overtop Nolay’s swagger-filled vocals. From start to finish, Trampa exudes the styles and sounds that have shaped bass music today, while simultaneously adding his modern touch to these pieces. The Disrespect LP is a constant battle between old and new, but the talented artist has fused the best of both worlds to construct a proper Trampa album, and there’s no shortage of the heavy bass signature that he has championed over the last few years.

Oh, and did we mention there’s also a mind-melting Space Laces collaboration in there? Dive into the Disrespect LP below.

All good things must come to an end. With recent developments in dubstep and bass music in general, lines are being blurred, genres are forever evolving, and the need for separation between styles is no longer relevant. That being said, Never Say Die announced the termination of their Black Label imprint earlier this week, and while the news came as a shock to everyone, the reasoning behind it is extremely logical. Originally birthed to host heavier dubstep subgenres, the recent boom of future riddim and more melodic elements in dubstep has overshadowed the distinction between the main and sister labels.

Never Say Die tell us that they “will continue to shine a light on up-and-coming talents provided – as always – that the music is right. All the sounds and styles that Black Label represents will be supported by NSD as well.” Frankly, that is the most important part for us as Champions of the Underground, and for the scene as a whole.

Fittingly, Never Say Die: Black Label’s final track comes from Trampa, the artist who kicked off the madness way back in 2014. Through a looming soundscape, barking synths and low-pitched samples, ‘Sick Head’ is a piece that embodies the essence of Black Label, giving the imprint a proper send-off. As an artist who has remained at the helm of heavy dubstep for years, Trampa demonstrates exactly why he’s stayed at the top in ‘Sick Head,’ delivering a flow that is sure to send festival crowds ablaze upon their return.

We’d like to extend a massive thank you to Never Say Die: Black Label for what they have done for the scene, and we’re excited for what the future holds for Never Say Die. Don’t miss the emphatic ‘Sick Head’ as well as the label’s official statement on the matter below.

With his debut, Jurassic EP released nearly 6 years ago and consistent contributions to the Never Say Die Records and Black Label XL compilations since 2012, the influence that Peterborough-native Rikki Moore has created toward the dubstep genre producing under the alias Trampa is nearly unmistakable.

After a brief hiatus from complete projects following the release of the Bulldozer EP in 2016, the UK powerhouse finally concludes the swelling anticipation with his highly sought after Knockout EP.

A four-piece project in whole, Knockout presents an opportunity for Trampa to refine his signature style of “deathstep” even further, demonstrating the fruits of his extended absence through enhanced production and subtle intricacies that allow each track to flow seamlessly as its own masterpiece as well as work in perfect synchronicity with the accompanying tracks.

The product of long nights, a busy touring schedule and meticulous fine-tuning, the raw unadulterated energy in Trampa’s latest project was well worth the wait.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/559470501″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

An intimidating siren clamors in the background as a distinct bell sounds off as the introduction for the namesake of the project ‘Knockout’. As the siren hastens in pace it gradually transforms into a high-paced riser, which grows to a crescendo before letting loose a grungy vocal lead, which unleashes colossal walls of bass that flow effortlessly with electrifying hydraulic fills. Armed to the teeth with reverberating heaves of bass, the subtle but precise snare rolls and innovative production intricacies provide a sensational flow to keep the track rigidly in check.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/559960515″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Toying with left/right audio panning, the introduction for ‘Walloped’ boots into transmission like an extraterrestrial dubstep spaceship. A tantalizing vocal lead symbolizes the final stages of initiation as the track kicks into a mutiny of incisive bass stabs, which Trampa expertly contrasts with definitive percussion and exquisitely timed beat breaks. Depth is one of the first thoughts to come to mind as the second build materializes from a simple vocal loop into a massive wall of engulfing bass, which carries on relentlessly for the totality of the second drop.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/561016845″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

It seems like fans have been waiting forever for ‘Coming At Ya’, but don’t fret because it’s finally here. Old school rave sounds are peppered throughout the introduction with a repeating sample of the track’s title warning you of the impending doom that’s about to hit. Doing what he does best, Trampa delivers a violent barrage of mind-bending frequencies. In a contrast of neuro-rave nostalgia and forward-thinking sound design, Trampa has concocted a heater in ‘Coming At Ya’.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/560472423″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

An eerie soundscape kicks off the fourth and final track of the Knockout EP, before Rico Act takes the lead on ‘Ceremony’. A short verse from the ever-present vocalist is quickly flipped into bass madness, as Trampa delivers the final blow of his skull-cracking project. ‘Ceremony’ and the Knockout EP are definitely worth celebrating.

Collectively, the bass music scene has experienced a tremendous amount of growth and development over the course of the 2018 calendar year. With the dubstep sub-genre riddim sharing a portion of the spotlight, the desire for monstrous bass, precise cuts and an engulfing environment of resonating frequencies seems to be soaring higher than ever before; similar to the original explosion of excitement when infamous producers such as Rusko, Caspa, Skrillex, Flux Pavillion, and Excision first stoked the flames of dubstep in the mid-2000s.

Much like a growing seed, a genre demands fertile, nurturing soil and a deep running system of support roots in order to blossom into maturity and survive the competitive landscape of the music scene. Founded in early 2009, Never Say Die Records and founder SKisM have furnished the necessary foundation that has allowed the bass genre to grow to where it is today, not to mention expanding into new & exciting sub-genres.

Toting an arsenal of veteran names such as Zomboy, MUST DIE!, Eptic & Trampa, the label has more than solidified their dominance over the bass realm; releasing consecutive Never Say Die compilations every year since 2012, each further revealing the seasoned cast of artists that have contributed their influence to the dubstep we know and love today.

Despite an extensive back catalog, SKisM maintains a rigid focus on the present moment and watchful gaze on future endeavors; demanding that past artists and newly acquired talents ceaselessly test the boundaries of their creative ability, which has resulted in a versatile evolution of sound for the label since its origination in 2009.

Now, with the sixth installment of the coveted Never Say Die Records compilation, we are enamored to see debut contributions from Mastadon, ECRAZE, and TYNAN as well as heavy-hitting sounds from seasoned veterans and Soltan’s first release of the year. And, as with all predecessors, there is not a single weak link in sight, providing sound confirmation that NSD will only continue to rule in 2019.

Every established artist has a signature sound that makes them easily distinguishable among others, but perhaps the most unique of them all is Eptic. Within five seconds of any of his tracks, a true fan is able to identify him in any mix. His contribution to Vol. 6 is no exception, jumping on the riddim bandwagon with his distinctive flair to unleash the monster that is ‘Ready 2 Die’. In typical Belgian overlord fashion, Eptic combines snappy vocal samples with his robotic synths and gut-wrenching bass to create one of the most forward-thinking riddim tracks of the year. Captivating your attention with an intricate introduction and keeping it with his forward-thinking approach is what Eptic does best, and ‘Ready 2 Die’ will have you hooked for its entirety.

While 2017 saw IVORY make a name for himself in the bass scene, this year saw him establish himself as one of the greats. His Next Level EP lives up to its name, offering next level sound design and supernatural bass. It’s no surprise that his contribution to Vol. 6, ‘Unbreakable’, stands out among the best, as he continues to elevate his wicked engineering with every release. In his latest, IVORY introduces middle-eastern chants with a desert-like soundscape to create a dance-ready torrent. Don’t be fooled by the splendor, though, as the gap between beauty and bass is quickly met with a loud, cawing lead matched with heavy-hitting percussion to create a headbang-ready heater.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/544943160″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Who knows exactly what prompted Space Laces to become the Santa Claus of bass this year, but whoever/whatever triggered it deserves all the thanks in the world. Gifting his die-hard fans with more releases this year than the last 5 years combined, Space Laces has been on an absolute tear with his latest work. When his collaboration with Topi wasn’t included in the Vaultage 001 mix, speculation began as to whether it would ever see the light of day, before being included in the Vol. 6 mix and giving bass enthusiasts a new hope. To the pleasure of all, ‘Whiplash’ has made its way into the newest compilation, offering more insight into the mind of two musical geniuses. A picturesque introduction depicts a group of friends cruising down a highway (no pun intended) before a hasty rise in tension predicts an unfortunate event. An abrupt crash of monstrous sounds injures all, with meticulous sound design and a fury of bass causing additional damage. Elevating the glitchy take on dubstep throughout, the track continues to jerk the passengers, offering no escape from the ‘Whiplash’.

Thoroughly listening to a track from international bass aficionado SPAG HEDDY is nostalgic to strolling the streets of Little Italy. Whimsical accordion medleys blend an unmistakable influence of the Sicilian variety into the savory, high-energy buildup of the track which contrasts roaring synth jabs and a commanding vocal sample. As the frenzy grows in intensity, a squealing mixdown launches the track into rampant waves of unyielding bass. Despite an overwhelming extravagance of resonating frequencies, ‘Troupe’ flows coherently as a tribute to SPAG’s coveted tight percussion and expertise in sound design.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/543928110″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Utilizing heartfelt synth melodies and mesmerizing bass sequences, KRIMER constructs an immeasurable amount of emotional depth and suspense in the buildup of ‘Facebreaker’. As the riser reaches its climax, an assault of rigorous drums steers the track in a new direction, unleashing a meaty vocal sample which catapults the track into a volcano of erupting bass. Just as the billowing smoke begins to clear, a sample from Dr. Dre’s ‘Nuthin But a G Thang’ comes straight out of left field, heaving you right back into the licking flames of the inferno.

A warm welcome and congratulations to TYNAN for making his debut on this year’s Never Say Die compilation — it’s been a real treat watching his style grow and develop in the previous 4 years and he truly deserves all the respect in the world for his hard work and talent!

The tune begins like the rebooting of a spaceship, captained by an otherworldly beast, which mutters a fierce growl as a repetitive snare drum kicks the vessel into orbit. As the ship begins to reach peak altitude a fatal software malfunction causes the navigation system to sputter uncontrollably, rerouting course directly into an oncoming fleet of bass-clad asteroids. Although the pilot appears to be coherent, he cackles menacingly as a meteor narrowly scathes the right wing, almost as if he had planned this treachery all along. Despite a more foundational trap style, ‘Usurper’ is sheathed in bass and lacks not an ounce in production.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/543501783″ params=”color=#ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Christopher Columbus of dubstep, Zomboy is an undisputed pioneer of sound design within the bass realm, with a foundation in production, laid nearly 10 years ago, his riveting style of thundering percussion breakdowns and relentless synth arrangements furnish a template for dubstep tracks still to this date. However, it is an insatiable hunger for progress which sets Zomboy apart from the masses, unveiling with each release an unbridled desire to expand his timeless infrastructure even further.

Flaunting his production expertise right out of the gate, ‘Hide N’ Seek’ opens with a complex digital introduction, coaxing you within earshot of the sensational trademark melody of wailing, harmonious synths. An exceptionally placed break leads seamlessly into an onslaught of drums, unleashing a captivating wave of rapid synths, which build teeming anticipation in the track. A vocal sample delivers the fatal blow, exposing a breach in the walls through which an assault of bass lays siege, demanding immediate surrender with no promise of survival.

Year after year, the growing anticipation is almost too much to bear — beckoning the question, how can the sheer volume and audacity of the previous year possibly be topped? However, expectation and reality flow in perfect synchronicity with Never Say Die; and Volume 6 carries with it an insurmountable quantity of bass, delicately crafted sound design & meticulous production worthy of all praise.
