The comic Suicide Squad is about to make it to the big screen this August but personally I’m anxious to hear more of its seemingly dope soundtrack. ‘Sucker for Pain’ is the second track to be released from it and it’s peachy yet simple beat is infused with the lyrical genius Logic, Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, & Ty Dolla $ign. In addition to these well known rappers spitting their fresh flow on the beat, we get more of an alternative rock feel with the appearances of Imagine Dragons and X Ambassadors. The uncanny factor about this song is not who is featured in it but rather the admixture of genres. The originality of all the artists featured in this track only adds to the simplicity of its beauty. It begins with a vintage slow starting Imagine Dragon intro, similar to their single ‘Demons’ but with a kick and then transitions into the verses of all four rappers. In the wise words of Lil Tunechi *Insert Weezy laugh*, “I’mma jump from a plane or stand in front of a train, Cause I’m a sucker for pain.” In correlation with this dope new track, at the end of the day your squad is always there for you, so go share this song with them and stream below.

Red Bull Sound Select showcases emerging Canadian talent

Next Friday, Red Bull Sound Select’s monthly showcase will be at The Opera House headlined by hip hop star, Ty Dolla $ign. The Manifesto-curated event is one of many birthdays that Manifesto Festival is doing to celebrate their 10th anniversary this year. With the purpose of the Red Bull Sound Select being to “highlight some of the city’s most exciting emerging artists”,Ty Dolla $ign will be supported by Nasty Nigel and 2 local hip hop artists that readers should definitely keep a look out for.

One of those artists, Keita Juma, has already been named one of the 10 up and coming hip hop artists in Toronto by BlogTO. The UK-born, Mississauga living rapper/producer/DJ has a style that one would say is underground rap meets jungle music. If you’re a fan of Skepta’s grime, but love Gesaffelstein’s beats, Keita Juma is someone you should keep on your radar.

On the other hand, Toronto-rapper, ShaqIsDope, doesn’t just have a dope name, but who else can say they collaborated with 4-time NBA Champion, Shaquille O’Neal on a track. Couldn’t think of anyone; yeah me neither. With pedigree like that, the man known as “the Toronto wordsmith”, released his latest EP, Black Frames in March, this HotNewHipHop heatseeker has a sound that almost makes you think you just found the Canadian Hopsin. One can only hope to hear a collaboration with Hopsin or fellow Canadian, Tre Mission in the future.

Ty Dolla Sign joins Major Lazer for the ‘Lean On’ Remix

While some people are up in arms about this being the official remix others are loving it. Arguably the biggest hit of the summer, ‘Lean On’ just got the official remix treatment with a verse from Ty Dolla Sign. The song really isn’t much different from the original but the new verse is a nice touch (even if you feel it was unnecessary). Check it out below!

Leak Alert: Three New Drake Tracks Just Hit the Net

Here we go. Drake’s VFT6 announcement is imminent and as we get closer to a hot summer, three of the boy’s tracks just leaked. The first, ‘Go Out Tonight‘ is a somber joint which features Drake singing to all the single ladies as he encourages them to go out and enjoy the night. ‘Tryna Fuck‘ is the new strip club anthem featuring Ty Dolla $ign and Juicy J, while ‘On a Wave‘ features Tinashe and Drake over a slowed down reggae rhythm.
