There are few artists that can evolve their music so drastically and continue to garner the support of all their fans. Tyler, The Creator is one of those artists. His newest album, CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST, dropped last Friday and nobody could talk about anything else… And for good reason. The musician proves once again he’s unmatched in the rap game through his versatility, production skills, and unlimited talent.

Tyler shows all of his sides in the record. He revisits his harder, raw rhymes and even showcases his softer side, à la Flower Boy. While the project is presented in mixtape style (shoutout DJ Drama), it’s a comprehensive body of work that can absolutely be treated as a complete album. As he switches from tough bars to melodic production, expect to be taken through Tyler, The Creator’s story, as he enlists huge names like Lil Wayne, Pharrell Williams, Ty Dolla $ign and more to join him on the journey.

With little to no promotion on CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST, the reception on the album has been nothing less than exceptional. Early on in his career, Tyler, The Creator had plenty of doubters about his staying power. Each year that passes, he proves that not only is he here to stay, but also that he’s a pioneer in making dope music that he wants to make, regardless of what’s trending.

It goes to show us rap fans—and even us journalists—that we HAVE TO continue to champion artists who push the envelope and genuinely dare to go against the grain. With that being said, this is an album you truly cannot skip.

Listen to Tyler, The Creator – CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST below.

It’s almost Valentine’s Day and we’ve been stuck inside for a year already. So thinking about our exes is almost natural… Not that I know from experience or anything. But Brent Faiyaz and DJ Dahi seem to think so in their new track ‘Gravity’ featuring Tyler, The Creator.

The sweet tune narrates what it feels like when your career brings you all over the world, but something is holding you back and holding you down. For musicians, touring made having stable relationships hard. It’s a common theme for artists to have these struggles while chasing their dreams. Faiyaz tells what it’s like to be in love, even though he knows it’s not the smartest thing to be in a relationship when he can’t be home all the time. He spits, “Would you be mad at me if the whole world knew the s**t we was on?/ It would be tragedy/ My n***** be globe-trottin’ like travel teams/ You always in my travel dreams.”

Tyler, The Creator also adds his experiences about having fun on tour but still thinking about his hometown lover. The Flower Boy rapper spits, “Now when I’m gone, and I roam ’round the globe, for three months/ That’s too long without somethin’ that’s sweet/ So I phone, little treats, that’s a snack, not a feast/ They don’t mean much to me/ ‘Cause I know that I have a bakery back at home.”

DJ Dahi’s saccharine production, Faiyaz’s silky vocals, and Tyler’s playful addition make ‘Gravity’ the quintessential R&B tune. And somehow, the track still manages to be something we all can relate to. We might not know what it’s like to tour, but we’ve all been with someone or been someone who can’t commit. I guess we’re really not all that different.

Tyler came with an impressive verse, referencing his previous Frank collab, ‘Slater.’ And Frank analyses his relationship with God and the validity of marriage with his melodic rap flow that he’s been experimenting with more and more recently. Hopefully these random Frank loosies become a regular occurrence in 2017 – he’s 2 for 2 so far.

Now that SXSW has come to an end we’re taking you through some of the best moments from one of the biggest annual festivals. Now if you don’t know what SXSW is then, have a look here. This 10 day festival sets apart a whole week for music and this year some of the biggest and brightest threw down at the sponsored venues. So lets kick it off!

iTunes Festival – T.D.E. Showcase

One of the illest shows to come out of SXSW, ScHoolboy Q and Kendrick Lamar shut it down. Q performed mainly form his major label debut ‘Oxymoron’ (check out the full review here) and Kendrick performed his hits off of GKMC. K Dot also brought out Jay Rock for ‘Money Trees’ which is a great moment in itself. A lot of rips have been taken down but in case you missed the live event you can check out the show through your iTunes. It was definitely a great show!

BONUS: Check out TDE’s version of MTV Cribs. Kendrick’s face is hilarious.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECGbTnNHlR8&w=560&h=315]

Tyler the Creator Gets Arrested for Inciting a Riot

During his show, Tyler the Creator encouraged fans to push passed security guards eventually leading to a full blown riot. His bond was set for $25,000 and he’s since been released. This all happened one day after the tragic hit-and-run that killed 2 people attending the festival. Tyler took to his Twitter account to distance himself from the incident after people began attaching his name to the accident. Footage below.

G.O.O.D. Music Showcase w/ Big Sean, Pusha T and CyHi

Getting back to the music, Big Sean closed out the G.O.O.D. Music showcase at SXSW with performances of his hits. The set list included tracks like ‘Guap’ and the posse cut ‘Clique’ with assistance from Pusha T. Kanye wasn’t available to make an appearance at this showcase, as he was with Hov running The Throne gig. Check out the tail end of the show below with Travis Scott and Pusha T.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jryXRi0ncug&w=560&h=315]

50 Cent Premieres ‘Hold On’

After leaving Shady/Aftermath, Fif has been on a promo tear for his new album, Animal Ambition. At this years SXSW showcase, 50 debuted his latest single ‘Hold On’. Since then he has released the song officially and it is available for download on iTunes. I’m personally excited to see how the full project pans out. Although joining an independent label may mean more control over the project’s direction, the marketing dollars behind Curtis’ album won’t be as strong which may hurt his overall sales. But we’ll have to wait and see. Check out the official video for ‘Hold On’ below and click here to see his other new joint ‘Don’t Worry ‘Bout It’. Animal Ambition – June 3rd 2014.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyJk0SwqKj8&w=560&h=315]

Nas Performs ‘The World Is Yours’

SXSW is a great opportunity for music fans to see their favourite artists and during the Mass Appeal Showcase, Nas took to the stage and dropped a classic cut from Illmatic as a treat for all the fans. Without a doubt this was a big moment for SXSW. As Nas prepares to drop Illmatic XX to celebrate 20 years since the original Illmatic dropped, you can relive the hype of this moment, thanks to Vibe.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKP7eZr_n0I&w=560&h=315]

The Throne Showcase

It’s been almost 3 years since the Ye and Jay ‘Watch the Throne’ dropped. When it did, it set the tail end of the summer off. The tracks from the collaborative project still bang and that was clearly evident at this years SXSW. Jay Z and Kanye took to the stage to perform work from the album including ‘Otis‘, ‘Niggas in Paris’ and ‘Gotta Have It’.
