Since re-branding from XVII to Vincent, the LA producer’s sound has moved away from the heavy trap influence he built his name upon, to a more emotional and moving direction. With the release of ‘Alpha,’ Vincent finds the perfect sweet spot between his early sound and his new direction. From the intro you’d expect a more downtempo and moving affair. What you get instead is an absolute monster. The gripping intro sets the stage for a massive trap drop that’s thugged out with gun clicks and shots. It’s a stellar start but things proceed to get even better. After a breakdown, a lone gunshot let’s you know the build is imminent. The second drop is an industrial-injected explosion, sharper and more deadly than roughly cut sheet metal. Whether you’re a fan of XVII, Vincent or have never heard him, ‘Alpha’ is assured to impress you. Stream below and grab the free download.

There’s something about the summer nights, the sun sets later in the day and the parties last longer. For the past 75 weeks we’ve provided you all with a perfect playlist to kick off your Friday night and right on time, we’re back again. This week’s playlist features nothing but bangers – each one of these tracks is a hard hitter with the perfect amount of energy for you to get hype. We start things off with a massive VII rework of the new Meek Mill and Drake track ‘R.I.C.O.”. Next up is Cesqeaux’s remix of Moksi’s ‘The Dopest’ and we roll right into UZs ‘Bubbles’. Both of these tracks will get your party going and the energy continues with Jayceeoh x Redman x Jay Psar, Meaux Green, and kendrick. Fabelle and Épais’ remix of Rihanna’s ‘Where Have You Been’ and Formil’s latest both start kind of slow but pick up huge. We’ve even got a touch of house courtesy of Magic & Johnson. Press play and enjoy the dat!

In a time where music doesn’t sell as well as it used to, online presence is more important than a record deal and followers equal dollars, artists have been finding new ways to garner attention and be “discovered”. If you’re an artist of any sort, how you operate online is almost as important as your art. While the playing field has changed, subsequently artists have changed their approach to building a brand, label and fan base. In the last year or so we’ve seen artists bunch up to build a brand as a collective. Thus, the collective was born. Artists who meshed well together drafted into a group, creating opportunities for their respective artists and most importantly continuing to create freely. The concept is amazing and I can see why it is slowly becoming more and more popular and common. J.Cole once rapped “labels are archaic, formulaic with their outcomes”, pointing out how major record labels focus more on creating hits for the masses versus building loyal fan bases. Niche, boutique labels and collectives are the new model and one collective is using its combined star power to shake things up in the music game.

Enter, Daruma. Comprised of 13 artists, Daruma is a star studded collective that is set to deliver some of the best music of the next couple of years (easily). Some of the names include Instant Party!, LVX, XVII, subtomiK, BAHT and our friend Andrew Luce. As a part of their announcement, the collective released Daruma – Vol. 001, a compilation featuring music from almost all of the members. With the kind of artists this collective boasts you can expect some great music in this and in future compilations. We’re excited to see what this does for their individual careers and for them all as Daruma. Enjoy!
