Cordae Drops Off ‘Just Until….’ EP Ahead of Upcoming Sophomore Album

Hip-hop heads around the world should be well familiar with the North Carolina native Cordae. The state of the game has definitely changed from what it once was, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth still keeping eyes on. When looking at lyricists under 25 it can be difficult to sift through the mumble rappers to find true talent. However, when you stumble across Cordae, you’ll have to look no further as he is a beacon of light in an often dark environment. In preparation of his sophomore album, he has returned to give his fans a few tracks to hold them over. Just Until…. is a 4-track EP that takes on passion and dedication in the form of rhymes and rhythm.

Cordae returns after over a year hiatus of his last release The Lost Boy to prep listeners for his upcoming album. In this EP we see two solo tracks as well as two collaborations, one featuring A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip and the other being trap aficionado Young Thug. Cordae effortlessly stays relaxed in his delivery while still dispatching a sense of sharp lyrics that shows he is more than capable of withstanding the pressure put on him from previous album’s success.

He starts the project by understanding the patience his fans have stating, “I ain’t dropped a song in a year, my fans is happy to wait.” Cordae continues with a flawless flow that appears to glide seamlessly in ‘Dream In Color’ where he ties in his success with the struggle of finding purpose. The opening lyric lays out the floor plan for this track “I dream in color and I sleep on a canvas.” Moving into ‘Wassup’ with Young Thug we are automatically hit with a rugged trap beat that changes up the energy of the EP. The two toss verses back and forth throughout the length of the track. We see the pair complementing each other’s flow before entering verse two, where they respectively take off with their own 8 bar showcase. Cordae rounds out the EP with a heartfelt track titled ‘Thornton Street’ in which he speaks on his upbringing and the progression of his hip hop career.

Just Until…. is an offering to hold listeners over during the wait of his upcoming sophomore album and displays Cordae is steadily working to improve his craft. Out now via his very own record label Hi Level Productions.

The T-Minus produced track finds the perfect balance between knocking and wavy. Travis Scott’s smooth hook is sure to pull you in. J. Chance The Rapper just surprised us with a Young Thug collab entitled ‘Big B’s’. Thugger kicks things off making the anticipation for Chano that much greater. Chance comes through on point as always. While the verse centres around him stuntin’, this is Chance, so it’s far from your average. He sprinkles in humour and and realness perfectly with bars like, “Grossed 3 Mill off the new hat, if I could go back and make a 2 cap” and “Got a little money from the tour, spent it all on baby pull-ups.” If you loved ‘Mixtape’ then this is your new anthem.

Tiller Continues to Tantilize

The biggest tease, Bryson Tiller, dropped not ONE but THREE singles last week.

‘Honey’, ‘Get Mine’ ft. Young Thug, and ‘Somethin Tells Me’ reignite interest of fans who have been enduring Tiller’s taunts of a sophomore album since last October, 2016. True to Self is the name of this hotly awaited LP, and from the looks of these fire tracks the flames are being fanned, and the embers have been burning since T R A P S O U L went platinum without any features.

True to Self has yet to have an official release date announced. There is mention of June 23rd on Tiller’s Instagram, but he’s pushed back the date from earlier this year. Stay tuned, but in the mean time check out the trio below.

‘Honey’

The mic must have been weak in the knees from the sexy flow from Tiller.This silky single can be described as a smart-mouth, spitting slick lyrics in a frank yet sweet-talk sway. Tiller proves that not all attractions are fast and hard- they can be lulling, enticing and seductive with breathless melodies, and deep, clean bass. No frills, but fresh to death- this is quickly becoming the fan favorite of the batch.

‘Get Mine’ ft. Young Thug

A clanky snare, some trill flickers, and smokey high toned synths twinkle through the verses in lyrically dense ‘Get Mine’. The lyrics are aggressive, expressing the desperation of trying not to just to make it but to survive in the world. Young Thug’s verse is filthy, taking the power of the track to an even dark side.

Metro Boomin and Young Thug are Metro Thuggin

Metro Boomin will be joining Travi$ Scott and Young Thug on the Rodeo Tour, which is slated to start on March 1st. Accompanying Scott and Thugger for the whole 23 shows, Metro Boomin decided to take advantage of great timing to release two new singles from his collaborative project with Young Thug. This is a collaboration a lot of cats have been waiting for. Travis Scott tapped OVO’s PND and Cash Money’s Young Thug for this new joint titled ‘Nothing But Net’. Produced by Boi-1da, ‘Nothing But Net’ is a dark track with a dope drum arrangement, even with all the auto-tune. PND handles the hook while Thugger gets the first verse and Scott finishes off the track. With bars from Young Thug like “covered in green like a fucking iguana“, “sipping so long girl I’m pissing Cristal” from Travis and a hook that will have you singing “fuck that other side nigga, fuck that other side“, this track is destined to be the new late night anthem.
