Earlier this week, we mentioned that Pham‘s NOSTALGIA mixtape was right around the corner. Little did we know, it’s actually out now, only two days after the release of the musically sophisticated ‘Golden State‘ alongside Ben Zaidi. In the five-track project, Pham provides an important reminder of why we fell in love with his sound years ago, while boasting a refined style sure to be the product of months of tireless grinding in the studio.
‘HateLove’ sees the Polish producer team up with familiar singer Anuka, and to be quite honest, these two are among the best producer-vocalist pairs in recent times. A soft future bass beat sets the stage for Anuka’s soulful vocals for the entire duration of the track, and Pham’s production shines once again in this vibing ballad. ‘Mirari’ is a lyricless, instrumental banger reminiscent of the early days of SoundCloud trap. Flowing between an ethereal soundscape and crisp, punchy beat with ease, Pham offers a stark contrast to the project’s opening tracks without taking away from the beauty of them. ‘Lightning’ featuring Reo Cragun is a hybrid of NOSTALGIA‘s first and third tracks, where Pham flexes his finessed beat-making abilities while pairing it with powerful rap vocals from the recent Flume collaborator. The project is capped off with ‘Nostalgia,’ and beautifully encapsulates the entire essence of the mixtape as well as Pham as a producer. We’ll leave it at that, so make sure to check out NOSTALGIA in full below.
