London-based producer Afrosamuraiist has been on a steady ascent for the past year. He landed in our Focus Five segment last July and he’s proceeded to expand his talents with each new work. With the release of his aptly titled On The Verge EP, Afrosamuraiist proves he’s next up. Opening up the project is ‘Shift,’ a vibey, slow-burning track that blends emotional vocal bends with an evolving energy. The first half is subdued, mellow but still groovy. As it progresses it becomes more and more powerful as elements are expertly added to bolster the sound. ‘Let Me’ is classic Afro blending sultry female vocal samples with just the right amount of bump and alluring synths to seduce listeners. ‘Do You’ will have you feeling introspective while nodding your head with ease. The project closes with ‘Wait,’ which may be the most engrossing tune of the bunch. The air is breezy and the sky is blue. It’s dripping with nostalgia while painting a vivid portrait of the future.
