Russian producer tapecut is no stranger to taking classic hits and turning them into fresh slappers. ‘richbwoii w/ t1r’ and ‘give it to me’ remain getting plays from some of the hottests DJs around despite being released a year, and six months ago respectively. Building upon his knack for flipping older gems comes ‘weesh,’ a knocking bop that’s constructed around Skee-Lo’s ‘I Wish’. Opening with lush synths and groovy drums, a dreamy female vocal lures us in with a siren song that teases what we’re about to get into. When the drop hits Skee-Lo’s familiar raps are backed by a pulsing trap beat that’s gritty but still manages to create a warm-weather feel. “I think this track will be a great soundtrack for this summer. After all, it is hot, burning and vigorous! Moreover, I promised that this year will be the same as this summer (see my note on the track, ‘give it to me,’ which I released at the beginning of the year),” tapecut says expanding on the vibe he looked to create with ‘weesh.’
Looking for a bit deeper insight into the track? tapecut breaks down the highlights saying “I would like to draw listeners’ attention to the drums, which sound lively, although they are made from a very simple loop which you can check here. I would like the listener to get the impression that a real drummer is playing. In addition, I recorded my adlibs at the beginning of the track. Little bit later I realized that for some reason my voice sounds like a 50 Cent voice.”
So does tapecut deeply identify with the song’s vocals, wishing he was a little bit taller?“I wish I was a baller, ha ha. Just kidding. In fact, I wanted to be taller a couple of years ago. But now I began to love myself more and appreciate what I have. Speaking of this, soon we will start shooting a video for the Weiture track, which is dedicated to this topic and not only.” Love yourself, love this track, summer is almost here and it’s heating up!
