Stratus Strikes With Malicious Intent With ‘Sqworpin’

by Alex Bell

Chicago native Patrick Stratton has been roaming the realms of electronic music for 8 years now, racking up releases through powerful labels such as Ultra, OWSLA, and Circus Records just to name a few. 2019 has already garnered him major plays in the industry with the release of his Doomsday Bounce EP through Ganja :White Night’s SubCarbon Records, which has amassed over 200,000 plays so far. Coming back after such a successful release can be nerve-wracking for many artists, but today he’s executed a masterful sneak attack with the release of his track ‘SQWORPIN’.

‘SQWORPIN’ lures you in with its infectious opening, being punchy enough to command attention while holding an overall groove-fest vibe. Quickly though, this track shows its true colors, as it lunges at you with its poison-filled stinger at the ready. The crunchiness of the first drop is the initial strike, leaving you still alive but panicking as you’ve just been hit with something you know is clearly life-threatening. The last drop is accentuated as the poison from the first drop becomes stronger, flooding through your entire body. The outro leaves you a lifeless shell of a person that once was, fading into nothingness as the last chords echo hollowly to deaf ears. Then….POOF. You snap out of it. You weren’t dreaming, you were just lost in a sonic trance courtesy of Stratus.
