Stepping into the new year with finesse, Kill Feed carefully constructs bass components in a thought-provoking manner. His latest ‘PAYBACK!’ dissects higher-end frequencies and sounds while tossing them across distinct percussion patterns. In the previous year, we saw his first Never Say Die original ‘Without You‘ in addition to plentiful originals and remixes. Being nearly three years since the birth of his new project, it feels as we have barely begun to witness the capability and potential Kill Feed carries.

Now, Kill Feed returns to Never Say Die with ‘PAYBACK!,’ where he seeks retribution. An unsettling intro surfaces and faces difficulty in dealing with the increased anticipation. While the track steadily molds together it comes to a brief halt before Kill Feed lets loose a pristine new sound. Wicked bass. Pure innovation. Experimental riddim? Dubstep? Whatever title you choose ‘PAYBACK!’ is downright bass excellence.

What else will Kill Feed conjure up in 2022? Explore ‘PAYBACK!’ out via Never Say Die in the meantime to get a glimpse.

FUXWITHIT mainstay [SUS] Collective busts into the new year with proper fashion releasing Volume 13 of their [SUS] Tapes. Their fearless founder, episcool, continues to provide an outlet for the overlooked, underrated, and underground talent by hosting these compilations. Volume 13 bears witness to first-time [SUS] Collective artists such as insowmya and Dankhai Shroom while welcoming back veterans such as JuLo and Dink The Poof. This series homes over 150 tracks and carries on the [SUS] vision of being all-inclusive.

Track one comes out swinging with the legendary Tsuruda. In addition to this blessing, Tsuruda enlists a special guest, cousin litt, to gift us ‘Bruiser’. Effortless rhymes dive over a steady bassline with cousin litt, giving these bars character. reeel. then takes over the next song with ‘Pockets’ and pushes the limits of a defined genre. He combines agitated left-field bass with hidden trap elements that are given more life in the last drop. We are then led to the return of [SUS] Tape veterans, asáu and jordnmoody, who have teamed up on this edition. ‘Emissions’ spits out dark trap tones with a no-nonsense attitude. An infective beat that hits hard and will lead to involuntary head bobbing. Up next, listeners are battered with the high-energy concoction ‘Wugmanti’. This creation comes from Dankhai Shroom which is one-half of the bass-defying duo Shanghai Doom. ‘Wugmanti’ is playful and well crafted that carries a steady bounce. ‘Castles Made of Sand’ by snuggles is after that. This song is a display of pure audio perfection. It is expertly designed with a listening experience that brags on the knowledge level of snuggles. While it is a testament of skill, it also proves why the included artists deserve a proper platform to shine.

[SUS] Tapes would not be in existence if not for the one and only episcool, so it only makes sense to see her appear with ‘Unhinged’. In this, we see episcool partner with insowmya whip up quality ear candy. An aptly titled track sees the first half calm and collected that soon will up the ante. Moving towards the end of the track is where things truly become unhinged as neither artist holds back.

What else goes into helping curate a proper [SUS] Tape you ask? Some dirty, grimy hip-hop flips. Volume 13 enlists the perfect team to tackle this with the trio of Lasse, Ql1x, and Goldscrolls. Their track ‘Salt’ throws the Ying Yang Twins ‘Salt Shaker’ through proper trap treatment. This reimagination will destroy festival floors and deserves to be played out across the world. After that, we are met with a very special inclusion. A FUXWITHIT Champion, a personal favorite, and [SUS] Tape OG: KUREI. KUREI broke onto the [SUS] scene back in Vol. 5 with ‘Street Fight‘ while making continued contributions to this project. The release of ‘Whippin’ marks her official return and first release in over 8 months. I could not be more stoked and what better place to return than the [SUS] Collective. In addition to the previous rap flip, KUREI cuts up ‘Can’t Touch This’ by BIA in ‘Whippin’. It comes with all the classic KUREI vibes but also pushes their creativity to a new level for the new year.

Moving on to number 9 out of 13—if you are still reading, I have so much love for you as I tackle each track. JuLo and Sterfry dissolve the limits of trap and give a barbaric bass tone in ‘Mob Wobble’. If you could take an alien invasion and repackage that experience into audio, it would be this track. However, just as you feel you are about to be abducted the mood is lightened with a bit of airy future sounds before returning to the battlefield to end the song. Arriving at the last quarter of contributions, Dink The Poof dispenses ‘Exploders’. Dink has distinctively disfigured a question mark symbol in a way for your ears to digest it. Removing all boundaries for what music might be, they still provide a cohesive way to find rhythm and make you move. ‘Exploders’ will definitely pique the interest of your hearing senses. Following that is ‘Dope’ by Aztek. In this track, you will find what would be described as an inverted triangle. Meaning, this track may start out simple and basic but over time it will build on itself. Eventually, this leads to a fusion of trap and house leaving me asking if I should shuffle or nod my head. ‘Uh Ho’ by Kazantzakis is next. He had an incredible 2021 and recently dropped off his interview and guest mix for FUXWITHIT. The track almost goes by too quickly but provides just enough substance to make you wish it were longer. Rounding out Volume 13 of the [SUS] Tapes is Lewcid with ‘Network’. This creation delves into the profound world of trap with swaying 808’s that interplay on the off-balanced environment. The structure provides a unique journey of audio that leaves a feeling of diving off the deep end.

[SUS] Tapes grow my love for the collective and what they represent. I hope it can provide that same love to all those who find themselves listening. They have a vision of passion that holds on to the roots of what brought us all to SoundCloud, to begin with, while hitting it with a modern approach. There are few if any that could stand toe-to-toe with [SUS] Collective and what they provide to this niche community. Being my first article in some time I wanted to give proper efforts to [SUS] and the artists it delivers. I appreciate those of you who took on the task of completing this lengthy article and I look forward to what this year has in store for us. [SUS] Tape Volume 13 can be streamed in full below with each track containing individual free download links.

In life, some things are made to go together. They can exist on their own, but it almost doesn’t make sense to see one without the other. A natural fit the universe has declared a perfect match. Peanut butter and jelly, for example, or salt and pepper. The underground and FUXWITHIT. Today, it’s the pairing of Jadu Dala with sumthin sumthin. Both powerhouses individually, but when brought together there is a promised brilliance to be presented. sumthin sumthin had his first release, ‘Gryme’, with the imprint over two years ago, and seeing his name return on multiple occasions has been more than pleasant to witness. Being able to possess a balance of light and darkness within his work, sumthin sumthin unleashes ‘Division’ out now via Jadu Dala.

Division is the act or process of separating or being separated into parts. A fitting title for the latest sumthin sumthin project. Normally when hearing this word, it is likely that math is the first thought that comes to mind. If you allow that to dissolve and the frequencies of sumthin sumthin to surround you, he puts it on a direct presentation in the form of audio. The beginning phase hits all of the grungy elements with flickers of light fighting to shine through. After crossing over into the second half, the energy is softer and more delicate. While the chaotic energy wrestles with that of orderly liveliness, the track balances out the two evenly. ‘Division’ showcases the most polished style of sumthin sumthin and can be heard in full below.

This track represents my evolution so far as an artist. Each section of this track is an homage to the different styles I’ve gravitated towards throughout the years, from heavy basses to a more melodic structure. Like other tunes of mine, I’m again trying to convey both dark & and light energies into a single track.

Somewhere between raw and refined, FAIRSMOOTH has found a perfect balance within his music. Since his FUXWTHIT premiere, he has released a six-track beat tape titled 24 with songs ranging from under ninety seconds to nearly three minutes. While claiming them to be “a bunch of throw away beats”, it made me eager to know what he had that he felt were not throw away beats as I found 24 to be a banger from start to finish. FAIRSMOOTH has granted me just that with his recent mash-up of JAY Z and Kanye West’s ‘Otis’ slapped over BADBADNOTGOOD’s ‘Running Away’ but portrayed in a way that felt as if the songs were made for each other. Almost as if it were the original production. In addition to his flip, he has released his next original ‘DUSK’ taking listeners through a serene field of soft audio before arriving at the main attraction.

‘DUSK’ opens with a passionate intro that toys with strings and trouble-free drums. It’s fitted to something you would hear on a Sunday morning as you prepare for the day. The intro extends into a spacious and airy arena before removing individual elements of the track exposing just the percussion. As tension rises, listeners have now arrived at the main attraction with FAIRSMOOTH transporting them from an easy Sunday morning to a club packed Friday at midnight. ‘DUSK’ drops into a bounce-infested trap heater giving us all a taste of what we were waiting for. It also goes to show the importance of listening to a track in full and digesting the complete story. You can listen below for yourself and cop the free download here.

Introducing the Los Angeles based producer and reigning Champion Of The Underground herself, Emily ‘episcool‘ Patterson. As a prominent name among the SoundCloud universe, episcool has navigated through the world of music for over seven years. With nearly a decade of experience, she has also assisted with the growth of the community through her [SUS] Collective project. This collective boasts nearly 300 tracks on SoundCloud, all of which are available for free download. episcool recently has released with the notable Partica Artist Group in ‘It’s A Wrap’ and returned to release with them on their recent Heatwave: Side A compilation. Additionally, Patterson dropped a collaboration with fellow FUXWITHIT favorite camoufly on the dumb collective label titled ‘jawbreaker‘. Allowing us the pleasure to showcase this ID filled mix, we were also lucky enough to catch up with episcool to discuss her influences, interests outside of music, the [SUS] Collective vision, and more.

Where are you taking listeners in this mix? What can they expect to hear?
New music, IDs, collabs, and everything I’ve been listening to lately.

When did you begin producing and what was your influence to start?
In like 2014 I started making beats on garageband lol. I went to my first festival that summer and then I discovered SoundCloud and I would spend hours on there every day. I found Aztek and that led me to the courteous crew (hapa, derg, tsuruda etc.) I was so blown away by the sound they were all creating and that’s what really pushed me to start making beats and get into that scene.

You recently hit 5k SoundCloud followers, describe what it felt like to reach that goal?
I try not to worry about numbers too much but it is definitely a good feeling to reach those milestones that used to seem so far away <3

What was it like being included in vol. 160 of the Team Supreme beat cypher?
It’s always an honor to be featured in the TS cyphers. I used to look forward to those every week I hope they bring them back!

Outside of music, what else has your interest?
Art, clothes, hiking, snowboarding, dogs, food, nature, friends, family, God.

Probably the creative freedom you have to make literally anything you want.

What is the most enjoyable part of the process for you when creating a new track?
Probably the creative freedom you have to make literally anything you want. I’m always learning new things about Ableton and every track you make is like a whole different experience.

I originally pronounced your name as ‘epi-scool’ until seeing it as ‘e-p-is-cool’ on your SoundCloud, how did this name come together?
e p is my initials (Emily Patterson). ‘episcool’ was originally my Xbox gamertag when I was a kid and all my friends used to call me EP so that has always been my username for everything.

I wanted to focus on the underground scene and to have a platform to put on smaller artists that were trying to get noticed like myself and I wanted a label that was all inclusive and that everyone could have a chance to be a part of.

As the founder of [SUS] Collective what is the main vision of this project?
The main goal was to just make music and make art and clothes and create a community that shared art in all forms. I wanted to focus on the underground scene and to have a platform to put on smaller artists that were trying to get noticed like myself and I wanted a label that was all inclusive and that everyone could have a chance to be a part of.

What’s your secret to finding the freshest names?
Naming songs is probably the hardest part of the whole process for me lol there’s really no secret it’s always super random.

Are there plans for the [SUS] Collective takeovers to travel or invade festival lineups?
With the state of the world right now I’m not sure if there will be any sus events happening this year, but hopefully we’ll be back in 2022 ;-)

As a fellow Champion of the Underground, who are some artists people should have their eyes on at this moment?
dink the poof, lyny, goldenchild, jordnmoody, snuffy, ooga, kilamanzego, robu, saka, julo, samsin, oakk, yojas, mirrormaze, bd hbt, kurei, something, stosu, sterfry, cumulus frisbee, deafadil, ql1x, cm., lyqd, wreckno, vctre, gurf, runnit, black carl!, chef boyarbeatz, tsunami, whereisalex, moore kismet, chromocinni, capshun, Jestic, aedfx, Aztek, fly, all of Lostdogz, Partica Artist Group.

You have a fascinating record of collaborations with artists such as Dabow, camoufly, aedfx., Adiidas and more. How did you connect with all of these artists? What has been the most memorable or fun collab for you?
I originally connected with everyone through SoundCloud and then we eventually started playing shows and festivals together and hanging out more and now our whole community is super tight. All of my collabs have been pretty memorable, someone I’ve been working with more recently who has really impressed me is goldenchild. This mans is the fastest I’ve seen someone send collabs back and will make the craziest shit in like 2 hours.

Should we be expecting anything else from episcool for the remainder of 2021?
New music, maybe an EP… going on a U.S. tour next month with jordnmoody & tape b so lots of show announcements coming up!

thank you to everyone who has supported me and supported sus these past 4 years, I wouldn’t be here without you guys and I’m excited for what the future holds for all of us <3

Any last words?
I want to say thank you to everyone who has supported me and supported sus these past 4 years, I wouldn’t be here without you guys and I’m excited for what the future holds for all of us <3

If you look just below the surface into the world of underground trap, bd hbt can be quickly found. In his latest run he has brought his ruthless sound design to the Excision hosted label Subsidia. With this he has presented us his blurrd vzn collab ‘Selecta‘ as well as a solo release ‘Cut Off‘. In the midst of pushing limits he also saw his Quality Good Records debut collaborating with msft on ‘test‘. As slowing down is no longer an option for bd hbt, he returns with a self release titled ‘Slice’.

‘Slice’ takes the sound design of bd hbt and tosses it into a batter before frying it to a crispy golden brown perfection. The intro sizzles with anticipation before revealing bare bass. Distorted percussion takes over as we witness bd hbt throw the track between a polished and rugged exterior. It contains a futuristic bounce while carrying a sinister attitude. The no-nonsense second drop exerts uplifting energy with snappy snares and perfectly placed drums. ‘Slice’ manages to balance darkness with light as if it were searching for beauty in the disorder. While the track is ready to take over the world, I can’t help but to say the cover art is as well. The entire package of this release has elevated the brand of bd hbt and proves why he will continue to rise. Listen to ‘Slice’ in full below and snag the free download for it here.

Portland, Oregon based Alexander Dennis better known under the moniker EPROM returns with a fatal flip of ‘Look What I Got’ by EyeonEyez featuring 42 Dugg. EPROM has once described his music as “Digital dysphoria propelled by dreams of a dead pixel billboard sky. Programs for robot ascension.” Putting this narrative on full display, his latest remix awakens a machine comprised of time stretched bass. It also contains a lethal trap connotation that feels as if the percussive elements have a conscious of their own. EPROM provides ‘Look What I Got’ with his signature auditory manipulation in this latest release.

Upon pressing play listeners should be prepared for immediate impact as EPROM smacks on a thick layer of speaker sauce that pushes dark bass pairing perfectly with the disfigured vocals. He uses a minimalist approach that allows for a powerful knock to exist. While the beginning of the track focuses on forceful bass and gritty sound design the last section pushes past all boundaries previously known. A barrage of wild call and response noises takeover the song to carry it out to its conclusion. EPROM’s ‘Look What I Got’ remix is a disorderly arrangement of both chaos and order that can be heard in full below.

A little over four years ago Adiidas found himself dead center of the FUXWITHIT radar. In addition, Wubaholics introduced us to TOFA back in November with our premiere of his track ‘Quick Money‘. Today we are happy to announce the premiere collaboration of these two forces in ‘System Failure’. The soundscape of each artist fits in perfectly with the other. With both being engrossed in the hip-hop influenced experimental bass concept, this collaboration couldn’t have come sooner.

‘System Failure’ begins with eerie sci-fi sounds floating around in the distance. Wasting no time the brisk build up ushers straight into an inebriating exertion of steady bass frequencies. Moving deeper into the track, each element works together to build a cohesive depiction. If this track were to be painted on a canvas it would look like the creation of a new species while somehow feeling as if you had seen it before. In essence, there is a sense of familiarity by the signature sounds each producer presents yet is portrayed in a way that is unheard of. TOFA and Adiidas met through the world of social media and found a way to assemble a song as if they were a production duo for years. ‘System Failure’ is out now and can be heard in full below.

Toronto’s very own rude boi thook stays true to his musical roots with the latest release ‘ground level’. thook has kept his hand firmly around the throat of the underground with releases such as ‘SIGNS‘, THE MIRROR FILES EP and ‘Pass The Chops‘ to give a few examples. In his recent tune thook crafts yet another unexplored world.

thook is known for painting a new planet and atmosphere with each song to help explain the story. In ‘ground level’ he imagines a place which gives off a similar emotion to his 3-part Menace Series project. The track reveals a sense of vulnerability while simultaneously boasting confidence. It carries a mutual bond between warmth and cold as the knocking percussion heats the melody. The first drop holds comfort and solitude riding gently into the bridge of the track. Are things moving forwards or back? Maybe even standing still. As we approach the soundscapes of the second drop, there is a silent reminder to observe our thoughts without letting them invade our mental barrier. Flutes flail over a polished mix and already impressive track structure giving ‘ground level’ even more life. My take away from this song is regardless of the distress we may face we can always escape into a utopia of our own with the power to create.

It’s not often, if ever, that you see a number and think to yourself, “How perfect?” nets however have a perfect following of 808 SoundCloud followers at this moment and are back with another top-tier trap presentation in ‘aw man!’. The duo of Ethan and Benji have slid under the radar for some time, but when they come out to play it is always a win for their record books. Being featured in Volume 19 of the FUXWITHIT Focus Five series, we have continued to keep a close eye on nets. They carry an element that is reminiscent of the early SoundCloud days of uploading raw beats that hit hard, which is exactly what we search for at the FUXWITHIT headquarters. With their last release ‘RE UP‘ coming to us just three months ago, we hope ‘aw man!’ carries the momentum to seeing more releases soon. And we may get just that.

When placing on my over-the-ear headphones the goal is to become fully immersed into the society of the track being presented. As I shut out the chaotic world around me and dive into ‘aw man!’ I am immediately mesmerized by the underlying melody. It is subtle although it sustains a firm structure. The track conveys a beautiful sense of modern nostalgia. ‘aw man!’ is faultless and straightforward throughout the first half. However, what happens in the second half is something I guarantee no one will be prepared for. nets were kind enough to provide us their time to give some quick insight on what they’ve been up to for the past year and the direction of the track.

We’ve been real quiet on releases over the last year because we’ve been working on refining our sound and we feel like we are at a point we are ready to start releasing more stuff. This track was a real blend of all our influences from timbo to Carmack to Dabow. – nets

Find out what ensues in the second half of the track for yourself below and stay tuned for more from nets.
